Yasir Hussain clears the air; Called for legalising theatre dances, not pornography

Renowned actor Yasir Hussain has addressed rumors claiming he called for the legalization of pornography, clarifying that he only advocated for the legalization of theatre dances in Lahore to boost government revenue.

Previously, social media and news outlets alleged that Hussain supported the legalization of pornography after he mentioned “adult entertainment should be legalized” during Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast.

In a recent interview on Faysal Qureshi’s podcast ‘Pressure Buhat Hey,’ Yasir explained, “The dances in Lahore theatres are considered ‘adult entertainment’ because children do not attend them.”

Hussain suggested that the government could generate income if these performances, which he said require expensive licenses globally, were legal. He proposed that instead of the standard Rs1,000 ticket price for regular theatre shows, these performances should charge Rs4,000, with the extra amount going to the government.

“So much revenue could be generated if it were legal. Currently, these shows happen daily, but illegally. If they were legal, the only change would be that the government benefits financially,” he said.

Hussain pointed out that the government often raids theatres, collects money, and shuts them down, only for the shows to restart days later. He emphasized that this system brings no benefit to the government.

He further added, “If we were truly pure, Pakistan wouldn’t be ranking first or second in porn consumption. We are involved in this, so why not legalize these dances?”

He also urged the censor board to assign age ratings to films, a practice used worldwide, to allow the Pakistani film industry to grow. He said that if a movie was restricted to a certain age group, only the producer would face a partial loss, but the film shouldn’t be banned entirely for adults.

He added that banning content on YouTube was pointless since it could be uploaded on other platforms. He also suggested that PEMRA should impose stricter regulations on television content, as children can easily access inappropriate material with a remote.

Hussain criticized a recent scene in a TV show where twin sisters accidentally switch husbands, calling it inappropriate and not humorous. He argued that content deemed suitable for films should not be allowed on television, while the same content is being restricted in cinemas.

  • ‘Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum’ tackles parental favoritism

‘Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum’ tackles parental favoritism

Smash hit ‘Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum’ isn’t just a romantic fest, it also sheds light on a societal issue that often remains hidden: the undue emphasis on financial stability as a measure of parental affection. The series explores how this relationship impacts a family, focussing on the experiences of two brothers, Adeel and Mustafa.

Before marriage, the show shows clear favoritism in the family. As the main provider, Adeel has a lot of say in family decisions, which creates an imbalance. His busy schedule excuses him from family events, leaving Mustafa to handle chores and family duties. Mustafa, who is always there emotionally and helps out, is often ignored compared to Adeel, whose financial success is more valued.

The family dynamics shift after Adeel marries Rubab, the daughter of a businessman. When their father falls ill, Mustafa and his wife, Sharjeena, manage his care with dedication. However, the arrival of Adeel and Rubab changes the situation. Despite Mustafa and Sharjeena’s efforts, the mother’s focus shifts entirely to Adeel and Rubab, who are praised and asked for additional financial help for the father’s heart surgery. This favoritism highlights the mother’s bias towards her financially successful son.

Mustafa’s emotional well-being suffers. Despite his significant contributions to his father’s care, he faces belittlement from his mother, and his wife Sharjeena endures unwarranted criticism. The drama emphasizes the emotional toll of such favoritism, as Mustafa’s efforts are overshadowed by his brother’s financial success, leading to a diminished sense of self-worth.

Sharjeena, Mustafa’s wife, provides a contrasting view. Despite facing resistance from her mother-in-law, she actively participates in household duties and tries to contribute financially. Her efforts challenge traditional gender roles and highlight the bias against women’s financial contributions. The disparity in how Sharjeena and Rubab are treated underscores the prejudices based on socioeconomic status.

  • ‘Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum’ hit the right chords with entertainment and messaging

‘Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum’ hit the right chords with entertainment and messaging

One of the reasons the drama ‘Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum’ is enjoyable is Sharjeena’s down-to-earth character. When Mustafa refuses to help her, she doesn’t cry. Instead, she accepts it and moves on, making the best of things. This makes her very admirable.

Mustafa seems to be changing slowly. Sometimes, he shows signs of caring for her. The drama nicely shows how he is gradually noticing her presence in his life, and she is becoming part of his thoughts.

Mustafa impresses Sharjeena with his game development skills and helps her see things in a more relaxed way. He helps her be less serious and more fun.
Mustafa’s father’s support for Sharjeena is heartwarming, showing positive character. Sadly, he doesn’t show the same support to his wife, telling her to leave his house and ignoring her efforts.

Mustafa helping Sharjeena with the laundry and the scene with a lovely background score by the ‘AUR’ group gave the audience some romantic moments to enjoy. He helps her with the car, takes the blame for the accident, and brings in groceries, making Mustafa very likable. His playful teasing of Sharjeena is sweet.

They are getting to know each other slowly, not just falling in love immediately, which makes the story more enjoyable.

Adeel can’t believe Mustafa married Sharjeena. Like Rubab, we wonder what’s going on. Is he jealous of his brother, or just uncomfortable? He knows he can’t take Rubab for granted anymore. She won’t tolerate any nonsense from him. She was smart to point out that she hadn’t gone home until now.

The next episode of ‘Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum’ captures the charm of Sharjeena and Mustafa’s growing bond with its heartfelt moments and genuine characters. As the drama unfolds, their sweet and evolving relationship offers a delightful escape, making it a standout show.

‘Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum’ offers a cute and enjoyable look at marriage. The show dives deep into human psychology to explain the actions and relationships of the characters, making it relatable and engaging.

Instead of the usual story of a couple in a marriage of convenience falling in love by chance, this drama takes a different route. Sharjeena confronts Mustafa about his commitment, insisting they make their marriage work. This highlights the importance of taking marriage seriously and not just going through the motions.

Mustafa’s irresponsible behavior is linked to his upbringing. The show explores how constant comparison and unrealistic expectations in childhood can leave lasting scars. This portrayal sheds light on the long-term effects of parenting on a child’s future.

Mustafa represents many young people who may not excel in academics but have other talents. The drama highlights unconventional career options like gaming, showing that these can be respectable and successful paths. It challenges societal norms and expectations about careers.

A very important message delivered in this drama is that parents and society often focus more on GPA than talent. There are many people with low GPAs but immense intelligence and talent. Such children should also be appreciated by their parents. In practical life, GPA is only necessary for advanced studies. In industries and companies, skilled people are what matter. “GPA doesn’t matter for a job.” This is what international companies seek from students: “Only skilled students.” The director beautifully portrayed this reality.

Mustafa’s need for recognition and care leads him to give his marriage a chance. The show beautifully demonstrates how genuine care, trust, and belief in one another can strengthen relationships. Sharjeena’s support for Mustafa, from arranging his interview clothes to encouraging him to tell his parents about his job, showcases true partnership and love.

Sharjeena’s newfound confidence is evident when she tells Mustafa she’ll mend his broken heart. The couple’s unique love language and Sharjeena’s push for Mustafa to accept their marriage bring a fresh perspective to romance. A heartfelt confrontation in the rain adds to their deepening bond.
Though the father is harsh with his wife, his care for Sharjeena is touching. He notices when she’s upset and appreciates her taking care of his medicines. This compassion adds a warm layer to the story.

Adeel enjoys his luxurious life with Rubab and her friends, but tensions are building. His false claim of always liking Rubab and her belief in it hints at future troubles. Rubab’s denial may lead to significant consequences.

  • Exclusive: Why has Samaa taken KRQ’s Mukalma off air?

Exclusive: Why has Samaa taken KRQ’s Mukalma off air?

Samaa show ‘Mukalma,’ hosted by Ayesha Jahanzeb, controversial screenwriter Khalil ul Rehman Qamar and his co-writer Sahil Adeem faced backlash after an online clash on misogynistic views on women’s rights.

In one of the episodes that went viral, audience member Azba Abdullah, who is also an employee of Samaa, confronted Adeem about his claim that 95 percent of women in Pakistan are uneducated. The exchange escalated when she demanded an apology from him for calling girls “jahil.”

Adeem responded by citing religious text, leading to a heated argument in which Qamar jumped in, hijacking the debate by being disrespectful to Azba. The host eventually calmed the situation down and moved on to another guest.

Following this incident, rumors circulated that Samaa TV had fired Azba. The Current spoke exclusively to her to get her side of the story.

Here’s what she had to say about the incident:

“The show was not planned at all. I was on the show because it was running late, and many audience members had already left, so the office staff filled in.”

Azba went on to narrate that they were told that the show would be about women’s rights. “When Adeem called girls ‘Jahil,’ I simply asked him to apologize to all women. In response, he started quoting Quranic verses, which was irrelevant to the discussion. This led to Khalil ul Rehman Qamar becoming disrespectful. The video that surfaced is heavily edited because Khalil ul Rehman Qamar used abusive language towards me, which was cut out. No action was taken against me; in fact, the issue reached higher management, and they decided to cancel the show. I have not been pressured or terminated; these rumors are baseless,” she added.

Azba revealed that Qamar, a misogynist known for being disrespectful to women, behaved so badly that Samaa TV had to take ‘Mukalma’ off-air.

The Current also spoke exclusively with Samaa Digital Head Asim Siddique to get an official statement about the incident and the show.

He said, “The Mukalma show has been canceled.”

When asked for the reasons, he mentioned two: misbehavior towards Azba and the numerous controversies.

He explained that the purpose of the show was to facilitate face-to-face debates, similar to how people post their stories on Instagram.

“However, people got so heated during these debates that they turned into controversies,” he added.

The team had planned many topics for future discussions, such as religion and education, which could have led to even more controversies, Asim pointed out.

“That’s why we decided to cancel the show.”
