Twitter is planning to start charging $20 per month for blue tick badge

Only a few days after taking over as Twitter’s CEO, Elon Musk is apparently working on some significant improvements. The Twitter Blue membership and even the verification procedure, which awards verified accounts with a “Blue tick,” are expected to undergo modifications.

According to reports, the Twitter Blue membership will be connected to it, and Musk also has big price increases planned for the subscriptions.

The new Twitter Blue membership will cost customers $19.99, according to a report by The Verge. Additionally, Twitter accounts that already have the blue tick will need to abide by this new system and pay for it.

Verified users will have a total of 90 days to switch to Twitter Blue before they lose their checkmark. Employees of Twitter have also been told to resign or move quickly with this new membership plan. According to the article, a deadline of November 7 has been set for the staff.

Twitter Blue, a paid monthly opt-in membership that grants exclusive access to premium services, was introduced last year. This, according to Twitter, will allow you to personalise your Twitter experience. In the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, the subscription service is now available.

It will be interesting to watch how Musk implements both a worldwide rollout and a complete overhaul of the payment system. Twitter Blue may be bought in-app on iOS and Android in the territories that are eligible.

  • ‘Does house help respond differently to men than women?’: Ushna Shah raises an intriguing question, Netizens react

Actor Ushna Shah took to her Twitter handle to ask her followers an amusing question regarding the local house helpers.

On Thursday, the Habs diva took to Twitter to ask the ‘very genuine question’ – in her opinion – to Pakistani women. She wrote, “Do you find that house-help responds differently to men than women? In my experience, I’ve noticed that if a “Sahab” gives a task, it is completed quickly & more efficiently.”

Shah believes that if the ‘man’ of the house assigns a chore to the maids, the work is done more ‘quickly and efficiently.’

Validating Shah’s argument many people claimed that it not only happens in Pakistan but also in other parts of the world too.

  • Politicians express condolences after reporter’s death, IK stops march for a day

Sadaf Naeem, a reporter with Channel Five, died in an unfortunate accident near Sadhoke while reporting on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march.

She reportedly fell from the container after which she was crushed by the vehicle and passed away on the spot.

Shortly after the incident, Khan announced that the long march has been postponed for the day and extended condolences to the bereaved family.

“I say this with utmost regret that due to an accident we are postponing the march today. We pray for the patience and strength of the woman’s family to deal with the tragedy,” he told his supporters.

The PTI chief also took to Twitter to extend his condolences. “I have no words to express my sorrow. My prayers and condolences go to the family at this tragic time. We have cancelled our march for today”, he said.

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif also expressed regret over the death, saying that he was “deeply saddened” by the incident.

Extending his condolences to the reporter’s family, PM Shehbaz praised Naeem as a “dynamic and hardworking reporter”.

The President of Pakistan’s official Twitter handle said that President Dr Arif Alvi expressed regret over the death of Naeem and extend his sympathies to the deceased family.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif prayed for the departed soul.

“I am deeply saddened to hear about the loss of the precious life of a TV reporter Sadaf in the line of duty. My prayers are for the bereaved family. May she rest in eternal peace,” she said in a tweet.

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry, who was also present along with his party chairman during the long march, recalled the last interview between Sadaf and Imran which was recorded yesterday.

He said: “I have rarely seen a more courageous and hardworking reporter than Sadaf, a brave girl, after an interview with Imran Khan yesterday, when Sadaf was introduced as the bravest and hardworking reporter in Lahore, her eyes lit up. Who knew that this meeting would be the last one, God bless you.”

Fawad also requested the public to take caution while walking along Imran’s container, adding that the lives of all people contributing to the march were “precious and respected”.

  • I do not talk to ‘boot polishers’, Khan responds to PM Shehbaz’s claims of holding talks

I do not talk to ‘boot polishers’, Khan responds to PM Shehbaz’s claims of holding talks

Imran Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), while responding to Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif’s statement about holding talks on the new army chief’s appointment, said that he does not talk to “boot polishers”.

Shehbaz Sharif had said a day earlier that Imran Khan had sent him an invitation through a businessman acquaintance to discuss the appointment of the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

“I spoke to those with whom Shehbaz speaks while hiding in the trunk of a car,” said Khan. He also questioned why he would send a message to the premier.

Khan also said that he was not raised in a “military dictator’s nursery”.

“I do not call Ayub Khan daddy like Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. I am not like Nawaz Sharif who build General Jilani’s home and massaged General Ziaul Haq’s knees to become a minister,” said the PTI leader.

On the Indian media’s coverage of his attack on military officials, the PTI chief told the neighbouring country’s media that his party is standing with the army.

“I came to power with the people’s power not because of the establishment,” claimed Khan, adding that he only seeks rule of law in the country and the protection of the people’s rights.

Continuing his attack on the coalition government, the PTI chief said that former dictator Pervez Musharraf harmed the country by giving an NRO to these parties.

During a meet-up with vloggers in Lahore, the Premier had said that the PTI chief approached him a month ago and wanted to settle two issues through dialogue.

PM Shehbaz said, “The first matter was the army chief’s appointment and the second was holding elections. However, I refused,” he stated.

The prime minister shared that Khan offered to send him three names for the Chief’s slot and sought three from him to appoint the next army chief. The Premier said that Khan told him through the intermediary, “Let’s appoint the army chief together.”

“I sent a message to him [Khan] that is a constitutional duty that the prime minister has to perform,” said PM Shehbaz.

  • PIA resumes direct flights from Islamabad to Beijing after 2.5 years

PIA resumes direct flights from Islamabad to Beijing after 2.5 years

The direct flights from Beijing to Islamabad were restarted by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Sunday.

According to ARY News, the first flight, PK-854, departed from the Islamabad airport at 6:45 am and touched down in Beijing at 2:55 pm. In the evening, this flight will make its way back to Islamabad.

Following a lapse of more than 2.5 years, operations between the two capitals were restarted. In February 2020, this route saw the final PIA flight.

China banned practically all incoming foreign flights in March 2020 due to concerns that passengers from other countries could be responsible for an outbreak of coronavirus illnesses.

Since Pakistan is Beijing’s sole all-weather strategic partner of China and the two nations have mutual interests and collaboration in a number of areas, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has finally granted PIA permission to resume operations.

Additionally, the flight will make it easier for Chinese workers on several CPEC-related projects in Pakistan.

  • Wasim Akram reveals he got addicted to cocaine

Wasim Akram reveals he got addicted to cocaine

Former captain of Pakistan, Wasim Akram, in his his autobiography book, “Sultan Wasim Akram” has given details of his battle with cocaine addiction after his playing career came to an end.

Extracts from his book were published alongside his interview in The Times.

“I liked to indulge myself; I liked to party,” he writes. “The culture of fame in South Asia is all consuming, seductive and corrupting. You can go to ten parties a night, and some do. And it took its toll on me. My devices turned into vices.”

“Worst of all, I developed a dependence on cocaine. It started innocuously enough when I was offered a line at a party in England; my use grew steadily more serious, to the point that I felt I needed it to function,” the great bowler has stated in his revealing autobiography.

Admitting that the drug made him volatile and deceiving, The Sultan of Swing then talks about the effects of his usage on his late wife. “Huma, I know, was often lonely in this time . . . she would talk of her desire to move to Karachi, to be nearer to her parents and siblings. I was reluctant. Why? Partly because I liked going to Karachi on my own, pretending it was work when it was actually about partying, often for days at a time.”

Huma eventually found out, writes Akram, when she discovered a packet of cocaine in his wallet. “‘You need help.’ I agreed. It was getting out of hand. I couldn’t control it. One line would become two, two would become four; four would become a gram, a gram would become two. I could not sleep. I could not eat. I grew inattentive to my diabetes, which caused me headaches and mood swings. Like a lot of addicts, part of me welcomed discovery: the secrecy had been exhausting.”
Talking about his rehab stint, Wasim says, “The doctor was a complete con man, who worked primarily on manipulating families rather than treating patients, on separating relatives from money rather than users from drugs.”

“Try as I might, part of me was still smouldering inside about the indignity of what I’d been put through. My pride was hurt, and the lure of my lifestyle remained. I briefly contemplated divorce. I settled for heading to the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy where, out from under Huma’s daily scrutiny, I started using again.” Akram says the cocaine use ended after Huma’s death in October 2009 from the rare fungal infection mucormycosis.

In his book, Akram incorporated memories from both his personal and professional lives. He also discussed Imran Khan and the 1992 World Cup in the book.
The cricketer allegedly disclosed some significant but previously unreported cricket-related occurrences.

About the press conference by Director-General (DG) Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Babar Iftikhar and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Chief Nadeem Anjum, the premier said: “General Nadeem Anjum held the press conference with my permission.”

Earlier this month, Khan himself said that COAS appointment should be on merit. “COAS should neither be my man nor someone else’s”, said Khan.

This revelation has come at a time when the retirement date of current COAS, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, looms closer.
