Punjab govt buries abandoned bodies, says they are not of Baloch missing persons

The Punjab government revealed on Wednesday that the abandoned bodies that were found on the roof of Nishtar Hospital’s mortuary in Multan are not of Balochistan’s missing persons and have been buried.

Punjab Chief Minister’s Advisor, Tariq Zaman Gujjar, clarified that the Vice Chancellor and administration of Nishtar Medical Health University have a complete record of abandoned bodies and none of them is a missing person

On the same day, the hospital’s administration and Edhi Foundation buried the remains of 66 corpses, all found in various stages of decomposition.

Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) Chief, Sardar Akhtar Mengal, had also expressed concerns that the bodies could be of Balochistan’s missing persons. Mengal had demanded that an investigation must be held.

The Baloch leader also asked for conducting DNA tests on the corpses, fearing that some of them might be missing persons.

Responding to this, Gujjar said that he respects Akhtar Mengal but his statement was surprising in that he suspected the abandoned bodies might be those of missing persons.

Last week, the grisly discovery of putrefied bodies found lying in open on the roof of Multan’s Nishtar Hospital grabbed the country’s attention after videos were widely shared on social media.

At that time, it was speculated by online media that up to 500 bodies were allegedly found on the rooftop of the hospital. Soon after, an investigation was launched.

Earlier, Nishtar Medical University’s (NMU) Head of Anatomy Department, Dr Mariam Ashraf said that the facility does not just keep bodies for research purposes but also for safekeeping, if handed over by police or Rescue personnel.

She claimed that there were only four bodies on the rooftop. “The only reason for keeping bodies on the roof is that their influx is huge and they aren’t being returned back to police stations in the numbers that they should,” she claimed.

PFA issues warning notices to 28 eateries in Lahore for selling sub-standard food

During a province-wide inspection of food outlets, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) inspected 1,200 food points, issued improvement warning notices to 28 restaurants, and disposed of a significant amount of unwholesome food.

Mudassar Riaz Malik, the Director General of the PFA, stated that a PFA team visited a well-known restaurant in Gulberg and found expired food products.

Various cuisine dishes were being prepared using out-of-date items. According to him, the owner of the food establishment also neglected to provide the raiding team with the required documentation and maintain a clean working environment.

Similarly, PFA seized 7,000 kg of beef last week that was about three years old.

The meat was retrieved from a hotel’s cold storage unit and was imported from elsewhere.

After looking into the matter, the food authority’s directorate general concluded that it is unknown if the stale meat is halal or haram. The meat was taken away and burnt by the authorities after the investigation.

‘Signed the film for him’: Diljit Dosanjh all praises for legendary co-star Sohail Ahmed

Indian Punjabi actor Diljit Dosanjh has recently opened up about his bond and professional experience with the legendary Pakistani actor and comedian, Sohail Ahmed. The two artists have collaborated for Indian Punjabi film, Babe Bhangra Paunde Ne.

Sohail Ahmed to star in Diljit Dosanjh's upcoming film

While speaking exclusively to Hello Pakistan, the Udta Punjab star said, “I think all the characters in this film were made for these actors who are playing them – no one else could do the role of Sohail Ahmed but him only, it’s tailor-made for him like it is for the rest of the cast that is part of this movie. I believe that the actors that this story deserves are all part of it – a great project comes together when the right characters are met with corresponding actors. The film has a lot of art in it–if there is a good script and a good character, the artist likes to work. An artist is only hungry for people to like his work. I hope everyone who liked the trailer of this movie will also like the whole movie.’

He added, “First of all, working with Sohail Sir was a dream come true and I was elated to share screen space with him – Sohail Ahmed is loved not only here in Punjab but also in Punjab of India. When we were creating this character, we only thought of Sohail sir.”

“I am very happy when I am on set because I love shooting. This is my first Punjabi film which will be shown in Pakistan. I hope Pakistani people will like this family movie.”

“Sohail Ahmad is a legend in Pakistan, and his shows are also very popular everywhere – it was an honour working with him. ‘Azizi sir’ is famous all across – my family is a huge fan of his work and I have watched his show ‘Hasb e Haal’ and absolutely fell in love with his work. I have learned a lot during my film shooting about the culture and tradition of Punjab (Pakistan) which is very similar to ours, especially the language. I would say the Punjab is ‘sanjha’, we are the same.”

For the unversed, ‘sliding into DMs’ essentially mean messaging someone on Instagram with flirtatious intent.

This statement from interview has gotten viral now on social media platforms, especially Reddit, with people calling the Kusu Kusu dancer a liar since Pitt doesn’t even use Instagram.

A user wrote, “I don’t get how he slid into her DMs, when he doesn’t use Instagram,” while another questioned the statement jokingly. “Are we supposed to believe it?” it read.

A user also joked about Pitt’s reaction to Fatehi’s statement, and wrote, “Brad Pitt: I don’t even know who you are.” Commenting on the video, a user sarcastically commented on her dating choices. “So, Brad Pitt’s been in her DMs, yet she hangs out with guys like Sukesh?” it read.

  • Honda Pakistan to launch the long-awaited HR-V tomorrow

Honda Pakistan to launch the long-awaited HR-V tomorrow

The long-awaited all-new Honda HR-V will finally make its formal debut on Friday, according to Honda Atlas Cars Limited (HACL), which recently teased the crossover in a Facebook post and confirmed the unveiling.

Honda Pakistan will offer two versions of the HR-V, the VTi and VTi S. The 1.5-liter 4-cylinder naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine in the base model will produce 119 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. A 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine with 179 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque will power the second model.

According to details, the Honda HR-V VTi is anticipated to cost between Rs6.3 and Rs6.5 million. The top variant would cost approximately Rs6.7 million.

If this pricing is accurate, the Honda HR-V will be a fierce competitor for crossover SUVs that are already on the market. As Pakistani car buyers may favour a crossover over a pricey sedan, sales of Honda Civic and crossover SUVs from other automakers could also have a little impact.

The sources have also stated that because bookings would begin immediately after the launch, the delivery of this car will begin in November 2022.

Here are the features that the impending crossover may offer:

    • Traction control
    • Hill start assist
    • Stability control
    • Dual tone side view mirrors + roof
    • Body coloured & black front grille
    • Automatic climate control
    • Honda Sense
    • Four airbags

For those who are unaware, the Honda HR-V is not a brand-new sight in Pakistan; local auto dealers have been offering hybrid versions of this vehicle, which are originally imported from Japan.

  • ‘Balochistan’s issues must be resolved’: NA addresses fake encounters

Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) Chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal raised the matter of fake encounters in the National Assembly (NA) in which, he alleged, innocent people were killed and presented as terrorists.

Three missing persons were found dead in Kharan on Monday. They were allegedly killed in fake encounters by the Balochistan Counter Terrorism Department.

Mengal told the lower house that the people killed by the department have been identified and all of those people were “picked up”.

“Wasim Tabish was a student who wrote a poem for missing persons. Those who speak and write are picked up,” said the BNP-M chief.

“Do not push us to a point of no return”, warned Mengal, as he urged the end of fake encounters in Balochistan.

Later, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif described the issue as “Wounds of the state that have been bleeding for years”. He called for measures to address and resolve the issues and acknowledged that the problem had existed for a long time.

“Balochistan’s issues must be resolved”, stressed the federal minister.

Not only Khwaja Asif, but Minister for Climate Change, Sherry Rehman, also called for constituting a “truth and reconciliation commission” to address the unrest in Balochistan.

The federal ministers also highlighted growing concerns over the situation in Swat.

“A terrorist is a terrorist and he remains one because he took up weapons. And when he agrees to talk to you, he has pre-conditions,” said Rehman.

The PPP senator recalled multiple incidents of terrorism and said it was beyond her understanding how a compromise could be reached with terrorists. Moreover, she urged the house to call a joint session again.

Khawaja Asif called for the members to sit together on the situation in Swat, among other issues of grave importance.

He recalled that a similar situation in Swat was seen 11 to 12 years ago when concerns were raised that “those in Swat may not be too far away from Islamabad”. He warned that “Whatever is happening in Swat and elsewhere, those flames can reach us as well”.

  • ‘Another lie of Faisal Vawda has been exposed’: PTI leader used expired passport to prove single nationality

‘Another lie of Faisal Vawda has been exposed’: PTI leader used expired passport to prove single nationality

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah of the Supreme Court (SC) Wednesday remarked that another lie of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Vawda has been caught as the court took up the former federal minister’s petition against a lifetime ban imposed on him by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

A three member-bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Ayesha Malik heard the petition.

Justice Ayesha Malik remarked that the cancelled passport which the counsel was relying upon expired in 2015 but was shown to the RO in 2018.

“When you get the new passport, the older one is stamped cancelled. How can a cancelled passport be evidence of renouncing the nationality,” she asked.

To this, CJP Bandial said that the issue has become very serious.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah then said, “Another lie of Faisal Vawda has been exposed”.

The hearing was adjourned for two weeks after Faisal Vawda’s counsel, Wasim Sajjad asked for more time for preparation.

At this, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah said, “You will not get answers of these queries even after a week.

  • Human Rights Minister Riaz Pirzada raises voice for Ahmadis

Human Rights Minister Riaz Pirzada raises voice for Ahmadis

Human Rights Minister Riaz Pirzada stressed the need for empowerment of the Parliament with the focus of performing its role as per the real spirit of the constitution and take cognizance for resolving the issues of the people and protecting their rights.

“I will say it openly, neither the judiciary nor military institutions have been able to protect us. Our heart bleeds for the bloodshed happening in Balochistan, or what happened in FATA,” said Pirzada.

“Ahmadi community is being stabbed with knives in broad day light. Their homes, mosques and places of worship are being destroyed,” said the minister.

He said that rather than raising a fuss over petty issues, the interests of the country should be protected.

In a thinly veiled reference to Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, the minister said that a person had contested elections on multiple seats and was involved in threatening institutions and people.

A huge amount had been spent on these elections for political gains which was really painful, he stressed.

The minister said that Parliament must protect the interests of the country because it had the real representation of the nation.
