OGRA announces 13% reduction in RLNG price

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has announced a 13 per cent decrease in the cost of re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) for this month, as the international spot market remained out of reach for Pakistan and the average cost of cargos under a long-term contract fell slightly as oil prices fell.

According to Brecorder, the basket RLNG price was also lower owing to the second LNG contract with Qatar, which is available to Pakistan at 10.2 per cent of Brent, included four cargos instead of the usual two. The number of LNG cargos from Qatar under the first contract was four for the period, rather than the usual six, at a rate of 13.37 per cent of Brent.

The average basket price for LNG supply at the import stage (delivered ex-ship), according to a notification from Ogra on Monday, was calculated to be $11.56 per million British thermal unit (mmBtu) for Pakistan State Oil (PSO) for eight cargos (all from Qatar) and $11.856 per mmBtu for Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) for one cargo under another long-term contract with an LNG trader at 12.14 per cent of Brent.

As a result, the price of imported RLNG for two gas firms, SSGCL and SNGPL, decreased by roughly $2.2 to $2.3 per mmBtu, or about 13 per cent. SNGPL’s sale price was announced as $14.78 per mmBtu and SSGCL’s as $15.19 per mmBtu. In addition, the price per mmBtu at transmission stage fell by 15–16 per cent in July, from $19.07 to $18.8 per unit in June, to $16.

Some 1.3 million people have been displaced, and more than 200,000 homes have been destroyed.

Flooding is expected to continue until the end of November.

Seasonal flooding is not new in the African country, but this year has been substantially worse than usual.

In addition to the disruption of food and fuel sources, there are worries about the increasing spread of disease.

Sadiya Umar Farouk, Nigeria’s minister for humanitarian affairs and disaster management, urged local authorities to evacuate residents in the riskiest locations during a press conference on Sunday.
She said that authorities are already giving food and other forms of assistance to those in need.
She continued by saying that several state administrations “failed not to prepare” for the disaster despite “concerted efforts” and early warnings.
Of Nigeria’s 36 states, 27 have been impacted by the disaster.

  • Ticket sales for FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar are nearing 3 million: Infantino

Ticket sales for FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar are nearing 3 million: Infantino

Ticket sales for the FIFA World Cup are nearing three million ahead of the tournament’s start in Qatar on November 20, according to FIFA President Gianni Infantino and event organisers on Monday.

According to Brecorder, Qatar, the United States, and Saudi Arabia were the top three purchasing countries among the 2.89 million tickets sold, according to World Cup Chief Operating Officer Colin Smith at a news conference in Doha.

Infantino said in a video address to the conference that 240,000 hospitality packages for the month-long tournament, the first in a Middle Eastern country, had been sold.

Qatar, the smallest country to host soccer’s global showpiece tournament, expects an estimated 1.2 million visitors during the World Cup. Due to limited accommodation in Qatar, thousands of fans are expected to stay in neighbouring countries for matches.

Yasir Al Jamal, the director general of Qatar’s World Cup organising committee, told a news conference that 2 million room nights had been sold and that Qatar had added an additional 30,000 rooms to accommodate last-minute ticket sales.

Soccer teams, their support staff, and World Cup officials will occupy many hotel rooms in Doha. Japan will be the first team to arrive at the tournament on November 7, according to Smith.

  • ‘Na Imran Khan ka admi hona chahiye na kisi aur ka’: Imran Khan about Army chief appointment

‘Na Imran Khan ka admi hona chahiye na kisi aur ka’: Imran Khan about Army chief appointment

In a press conference on Monday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said that the appointment of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) should be on merit.

He stated: “Na Imran Khan ka admi hona chahiye na kisi aur ka” (COAS should neither be my man nor someone else’s.)

He was of the view that high-profile appointments like the COAS should not be made by “criminals like Nawaz or Zardari”.

Moreover, he claimed that his party has been “sidelined” many times despite him trying his best not to cause any harm to institutions.

Taking a jibe at Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, Khan said that Nawaz is scared of elections because he fears defeat.

Imran said Nawaz is waiting for the PTI’s wave of support to diminish before elections could be held.

Khan gives time to the government

Khan said that he is giving some more time to the government to announce a date for elections or else he will announce the long march date, adding that preparations for the march have been completed.

“I am giving them [government] time just for the sake of the country,” he said. “I repeat that they still have time to announce elections, and if they don’t, I will begin my march, and my preparations are almost complete.”

He said dialogue is out of the question with the ruling elite. “There’s no negotiation with criminals. You can hold reconciliation talks with Baloch or Sindhi nationalists, but not with felons like them,” Khan added.

    Rigging in NA-237

Imran demanded the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold re-election in Karachi’s NA-237 constituency which he lost on Sunday to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)candidate. He claimed that the PPP clinched the seat in the by-poll on through “rigging”.

He said that the government did not wish to hold elections and used floods as an excuse. “They said that there were floods. But in the constituencies where elections were held, floods did not have an effect.”

“Sindh’s election commissioner was on the provincial government’s payroll. We reject [Malir’s] by-election and demand re-election. The PPP swung the polls to their advantage through indiscriminate rigging,” Khan alleged.

  • 4th consecutive decline: PKR drops by 46 paisas to Rs218.89

4th consecutive decline: PKR drops by 46 paisas to Rs218.89

The Pakistani Rupee (PKR) lost ground against the US Dollar (USD) today, reversing last week’s gains.

The local unit fell 0.21 per cent against the US dollar today, closing at Rs218.89 after losing 46 paisas in the interbank market. During today’s open market session, the rupee hit an intraday low of Rs219.500 against the US dollar.

When trade resumed against the greenback, the local unit was all red and opened trade at Rs219.00 in the open market. By midday, the dollar had risen to Rs219.25 against the rupee. After 2 pm, the local currency remained in the red and remained at Rs218 against the top foreign currency before the interbank close.

Today was the fourth consecutive day that the rupee fell against the US dollar. Money changers are sceptical of a PKR recovery unless the government enacts stringent policies to combat the forex slowdown.

According to one regular trader, the market is also reacting to Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) winning six National Assembly seats in a by-election on Sunday, which was viewed as a direct contest between the former ruling party and the current ruling coalition.

While the market watches for any changes in monetary policy, the local unit is expected to fall further against the dollar. The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has begun clearing importers’ letters of credit (LCs), but money changers say the process could be put on hold if another shortage hits the dollar aisle in the coming days.

  • Rana Sanaullah warns PTI again after Imran says party is all ready for long march

Rana Sanaullah warns PTI again after Imran says party is all ready for long march

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has warned Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, again that the federal government will respond with “full force” if he announces a long march and enters Islamabad.

On Monday, the federal minister said that Khan has started the culture of bringing huge crowds out on the streets, but the government knows how to end it.

Speaking about the by-elections in which PTI won the majority of the seats, Sanauallah said that while the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has “responsibly carried out its job in the by-polls”, Khan was busy “spreading propaganda against the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).”

Rana Sanaullah revealed that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif will lead his party’s next election campaign.

Despite the warning, the PTI chief said the long march will be announced within this month. He told the federal government to announce a date for general elections in a few days or else the long march date will be announced. Imran Khan stressed that all preparations for the long march have been completed.

Last week, Sanaullah warned Khan about his party’s long march, saying, “Jab yeh long march ke liye aayeinge [Islamabad], iss ko pakar kar ulta kardeinge” (We will hang Khan upside down if he takes his long march into Islamabad).

The federal minister also said that there is a possibility of Khan and other party leaders being arrested during the long march.
