    The Tiktoker also revealed that she and her fiance were offered parts in Shahveer Jafry and Danyal Zafar starrer Barwaan Khiladi but she turned it down. Jannat added that she was in Japan to meet her sister so couldn’t travel back.

    In 2020, Mirza claimed that she was offered a Bollywood movie opposite Kartik Aaryan but she declined. She said that she does not want to be a part of Indian films because of her discomfort over the way Muslims are treated in India these days. She also said that her parents would probably not allow her to pursue an acting career in Bollywood.

    A 70-year-old Indian woman was killed by an elephant in Odisha, India, while she was collecting water from a tube-well, reports The Print.

    The elephant trampled Maya Murmu. As a result, she sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital where she breathed her last.

    When the family members were performing Maya’s last rituals, the elephant returned and took the corpse from the pyre. It trampled her body again and fled after throwing it. 

    However, Maya’s last rites were finally conducted a few hours later. The elephant had wandered off from the Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary.

    According to official data, as many as 3,300 people have been killed in attacks by wild elephants in India in the last seven years. Odisha has suffered the most deaths, with nearly 600 killed between 2014-2021.

    Senior lawyer and former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Hamid Khan said that former Prime Minister Imran Khan confessed to committing blunders that cost PTI politically.

    Hamid revealed that he had met Khan at the latter’s request. Speaking on Geo News show ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath’, Hamid said that former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had brought Imran’s message to him. He said he agreed to see Khan along with former core members of the PTI.

    “He showed up with an open heart and confessed that bohat si ghaltiyaan huvi hain [We have made a lot of mistakes]. And [these mistakes] have resulted in a loss for the party,” said Hamid.

    Hamid said that Khan had admitted that his (Hamid Khan’s) stance and struggle against the establishment’s political role was right. He said Imran Khan had also admitted that he (Imran Khan) should have given importance to his (Hamid Khan’s) reservations about Jahangir Tareen and Aleem Khan.

    Hamid said Khan also admitted that he was misled on Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s issue, adding that he had told Khan that the reference was a mistake because the judge was an honest man.

    Earlier in April, Khan had admitted that the filing of a presidential reference for the removal of Supreme Court’s Justice Qazi Faez Isa was a mistake.

    A day-long drama was witnessed in the Punjab Assembly on Monday as Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi refused to conduct the session and allow the provincial budget to be presented. The Punjab Assembly’s budget session for the fiscal year 2022-23 was postponed till 1pm today. 

    Elahi demanded that the inspector general of police (IGP) first tender an apology to him and that all cases lodged against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) workers and parliamentarians be withdrawn.

    The provincial cabinet had earlier approved the Punjab government’s first budget of more than Rs3.226 trillion for the next fiscal year.

    The budget session was scheduled to begin at 2pm yesterday (June 13) but it started after several hours of delay. Once it started, the Opposition benches protested the presence of Punjab government spokesperson Attaullah Tarar in the assembly, as he is not an MPA. 

    “We will not let the budget be presented till [Chief Minister] Hamza Shehbaz is present in the House, while the inspector-general and chief secretary are sitting in the gallery,” the Opposition said.

    Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervaiz Elahi demanded the guards escort Tarar out of the assembly and adjourned the session for 10 minutes.

    Elahi said that if Tarar was not out of the building within 10 minutes, he would adjourn the session till tomorrow.

    After the break, Tarar exited the assembly in “protest”. He also showed his middle finger before leaving the Punjab Assembly.

    He also ‘apologised’ for the incident on Twitter. “[The] speaker sent this force toward me to oust me from the house unconstitutionally. This attempt failed. I decided to leave the House in the interest of the public but as I was leaving expletives were used against me. In response, I turned to the opposition benches. If anyone was hurt by this, I am sorry. I was wrong,” he wrote.

    A day after economic slowdown fears dragged the major British stocks to their sixth straight session of losses, UK equities stabilised on Tuesday, with some positive momentum from financial sectors and some excellent earnings announcements.

    By 0712 GMT, the FTSE 100 had up 0.6 per cent, with shares in British bank HSBC up 2.6 per cent providing the biggest boost to the blue-chip index.

    Following volatile crude prices, oil majors BP Plc and Shell Plc climbed 1.5 per cent and 0.8 per cent, respectively.

    After finishing at its weakest level in more than three months on Monday, the domestically focused mid-cap FTSE 250 index gained 0.7 per cent. Paragon Banking increased by 4.7 per cent after raising its expectations for 2022 and indicating robust new lending growth.

    FirstGroup jumped 1.2 per cent when the transportation company reported a higher yearly profit and restarted dividend payments, as passenger numbers on its buses increased after COVID-19 limitations were relaxed.

    Crest Nicholson rose 6.1 per cent after projecting an adjusted profit before tax of between 135 and 140 million pounds for fiscal year 2022. In 2021, the housebuilder made an adjusted profit of 107.2 million pounds.

    McDonald’s re-opens in Russia with a different name

    McDonald’s restaurants in Russia have reopened under a new identity. The name of the restaurant is now Vkusno & tochka (“Tasty and that’s it”). The first 15 locations of the new Russian fast-food business that bought out McDonald’s opened in Moscow on Sunday.

    “Our goal is that our guests do not notice a difference either in quality or ambience,” said Oleg Paroev, chief executive of Vkusno & tochka.

    “We had to remove some products from the menu because they refer directly to McDonald’s, such as the McFlurry and Big Mac,” Paroyev said.

    Prices have risen “slightly” due to the inflation that has hit Russia hard after Western countries imposed sanctions, but they remain “reasonable”, he added.

    The menu items are similar to what McDonald’s sells – including chicken nuggets, fish burgers, and fruit pies, but with different packaging.

    McDonald’s in May announced that after more than 30 years of operations in the country, it will exit the Russian market. The decision was taken due to the humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine.

    Karachi police on Monday manhandled and detained 28 protesters, including females, who were demonstrating near the main gate of the Sindh Assembly against the ‘missing’ Baloch students of the University of Karachi (KU).

    Doda Baloch and Ghamshad Baloch —two students of KU — were allegedly taken away from their home near Maskan Chowrangi in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on June 7 and their whereabouts are unknown since then.

    Earlier in the day, Shayhaq Ellahi and HudaHair Ellahi, siblings of Doda, had tweeted that their brother and his friend had been “safely released”. Shayhaq also posted photographs of the pair, reports Dawn.

    Protest outside Sindh Assembly

    Relatives of the missing Baloch students and members of civil society organisations had set up a camp outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC) for the last four days. On Sunday night, they reached the Sindh Assembly’s main gate.

    Videos of the police can be seen where the protesters are being dragged and manhandled by the Sindh police.

    South-Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Asad Raza while speaking with Dawn said that the police detained 19 men and nine women as they tried to enter the assembly building on Monday. The officer denied that protesters were treated roughly. He added that female police officers had detained female protesters.

    The protest organisers accused the police of manhandling women and children. They said the Sindh police had retracted their promise of arranging a meeting of the missing students’ relatives with Counter Terrorism Department officials on Monday. Therefore, they said, they again staged a sit-in near the Sindh Assembly building where the police manhandled and arrested protesters.
