    A section of Indian netizens are miffed with Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan’s latest advertisement. The Jab We Met star, who is the face of a jewelry brand, recently unveiled a picture promoting the auspicious Hindu festival of Akshaya Tritiya.

    In the picture, Kareena dons a glittering lehenga accessorised with gold jewelry, but there is no bindi on her forehead; that has upset the Twitterati. Several netizens even called to boycott the brand and trolled the Ra.One diva.

    In the advertisement for Akshaya Tritiya, Kareena is seen wearing an embellished pink lehnga, paired with an elaborate diamond neckpiece, huge earrings, and a maang tika. But what caught everyone’s attention was the absence of Bindi on Kareena’s forehead.

    Netizens slammed the brand for promoting a Hindu festival without a proper depiction of Hindu married women. They argued for roping in a ‘muslim married woman’ for the launch the Hindu festival ad. This has created a rage on social media platforms with several hashtags such as #BoycottMalabarGold, #BoycottKareenaKapoorKhan and #NoBindiNoBusiness becoming top trends. 

    Earlier the Kambakht Ishq diva was trolled for looking old at Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s wedding.

    ICC appoint Ex-PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan as General Manager Cricket

    Former Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Executive Wasim Khan has been appointed as the ICC General Manager – Cricket. The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed the announcement on Friday.

    He will take over from Allardice who spent eight years in the role before being appointed as the ICC CEO. “I am honoured to be joining the ICC, I can’t await to get started and work in partnership with our Members to strengthen and grow our sport,” Khan said in an ICC statement.

    Khan began a three-year term with the PCB on February 1, 2019, but resigned as the board’s chief executive in September last year, four months prior to the end of his contract.

    US launches $23 million project to enhance Pakistan’s power sector

    The United States (US) said on Friday that it will launch a four-year, $23.5 million initiative in Pakistan to improve energy sector performance.

    As per United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Julie A Koenen, the project intends to boost the volume of green energy in Pakistan’s energy mix.

    The US government is collaborating with the Pakistani government to undertake a four-year $23.5 million power sector reform initiative to address climate change and enhance the amount of renewable energy in Pakistan’s energy mix, through USAID.

    It would also strengthen the management and operations of electricity transmission and distribution networks, boosting the financial viability, dependability, and affordability of Pakistan’s power system by providing technical support to the government and private sector.

    To increase Pakistan’s energy supply, the US and Pakistan have built three dams: Gomal Zam dam in South Waziristan, Satpara dam in Gilgit Baltistan, and Golen Gol dam in Chitral, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding 143 megawatts of electricity to the national grid and rehabilitated the Mangla and Tarbela dams and three thermal power plants, connecting up to 860 megawatts of commercially-funded wind and solar projects to the national grid.

A culture who has gotten so used to an image of what a “healthy” woman’s body looked like that is completely not real for a lot of women,” she added.

    “Emotionally, the messaging I get from our world in loud in my own head. Ironically, all the therapy, all the inner work is to try and get back to feeling like 7 year old me on the beach. I’m mourning her today. Happy, silly, breathing, pretending to be a mermaid, FREE,” the Senorita singer ended the note with this.

    Camila got real about her mental health struggles during an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1. 

    The 27-year-old revealed her anxiety prevented her from ‘functioning’ as she started working on her latest album Familia. 

    ‘For a while, it was a couple months where I didn’t go back in the studio. I was just doing therapy,’ she admitted. ‘I was literally not functioning. I felt not able to work. And I found a therapist that everything they said really resonated with me. 

    She also discussed embracing therapy at this time: ‘My anxiety became something that did not allow me to function, that isolated me. What I was looking for so desperately, whether it came in the from of me in the studio or not, was connection and being seen. 

    ‘And that’s why, for me, it was so important to be with people. Not forget about the music. I just was like, “I need to be able to trust and feel safe with the people that I’m making this music with. I need to be able to talk about these things. I need to be able to…”

    Pakistani philanthropist Dr Amjad Saqib nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

    Dr Amjad Saqib, a Pakistani philanthropist and founder of Akhuwat — the country’s largest interest-free microfinance programme — has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian work. Dr. Amjad Saqib has been nominated by Malta’s Foreign Minister, according to the British organization PA Media. However, as per the information available on the website of Nobel Prize, “Neither the names of nominators nor of nominees for the Nobel Peace Prize may be divulged until 50 years have elapsed.”

    “The Committee does not itself announce the names of nominees, neither to the media nor to the candidates themselves. In so far as certain names crop up in the advance speculations as to who will be awarded any given year’s prize, this is either sheer guesswork or information put out by the person or persons behind the nomination. Information in the Nobel Committee’s nomination database is not made public until after fifty years.”

    Dr Saqib earned Asia’s highest honour, the Ramon Magsaysay Award, in 2021 for his humanitarian work in poverty reduction, and has now been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian work in poverty alleviation.

    Amjad Saqib, while talking to The Express Tribune about his nomination said, “My services are beyond such awards and they are purely for the sake of Allah.” He continued by adding: “An official of a foreign country might have recommended my name for the award as people across the world are familiar with my services for humanity… but I am not aware of any such development.”

    Dr Saqib resigned from Civil Service in 2003 and founded Akhuwat the same year. He has been its CEO and main driving force since beginning. With 17 years of successful operations, Akhuwat now presents a viable model of Shariah-compliant microfinance, which is both sustainable and replicable. Besides Akhuwat, Dr Saqib is voluntarily serving many civil society organisations in the realm of education, health, disability, banking and finance. He is also on the board of a commercial bank and a few public universities.

    The winners of the World Car Awards for 2022 were recently announced at an event held during this year’s auto show.

This game show is based on the seven teams from different cities and each has a celebrity captain. In each team, the audience plays the game under the captain’s leadership. The winner’s team gets grand prizes. This year, the program has added one more team, Gujranwala Bulls. The concept of teams is similar to the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Some team captains are led by cricket players such as Shoaib Malik and Sarfaraz Ahmed.

    This game show was launched in December 2018 and was hosted by actor Nabeel Zafar. Now it is being hosted by actor Danish Taimoor. The Friday episode of this game show has gotten around 66,000 views with approximately 2300 likes till April 22. In this game, all teams consist of young social media influencers mainly from the TikTok platform. Besides social media teams, audiences also get involved in several games such as the tug of war segment.

    Pakistan’s forex reserves inch up to $17.05 billion

    The State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) foreign reserves saw inflows of $36 million in the week ending April 16, 2022, representing a 0.3 per cent increase week over week.

    According to the SBP weekly update posted on Thursday, the country’s total liquid foreign exchange reserves increased by $16.9 million (+0.1 per cent) to $17.045 billion on April 16, 2022, up from $17.028 billion the previous week. SBP reserves rose by $36.1 million to $10.88 billion (+0.3 per cent), up from $10.85 billion the week before.

    Likewise, commercial banks’ net foreign reserves stood at $6.1 billion, down $19.3 million (-0.3 per cent) on a weekly basis.

    In the interbank market on Thursday, however, the Pakistani Rupee (PKR) resumed its downward trend versus the US Dollar (USD). It fell by Rs1.04 to the dollar, Rs1.15 to the Australian Dollar (AUD), Rs2.04 to the Canadian Dollar (CAD), Rs2.42 to the Pound Sterling (GBP), and Rs2.96 to the Euro (EUR).

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he will soon convene a grand jirga of North Waziristan tribal elders in Islamabad to find a way out of the prevailing situation in the tribal region.

    “Restoration of lasting peace in North Waziristan tribal district is the top most priority of my government.”

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was speaking during a daylong visit to Miramshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan on Thursday. The prime minister addressed a gathering the elders of Uthmanzai tribe. Earlier, senior civil and military officials and elders of the area received the prime minister.

    Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Defence Minister Khwaja Asif, Minister for Religious Affairs Mufti Abdul Shakoor, PM’s adviser Amir Muqam and MNA Mohsin Dawar accompanied the PM. According to officials, Peshawar Corps Commander Lt-Gen Faiz Hameed briefed the prime minister on the prevailing law and order situation in the area.

    Addressing the jirga, PM Sharif said the people of North Waziristan had suffered miseries and rendered matchless sacrifices for the motherland, adding that the government would not ignore their sacrifices.

    On the demand of Mohsin Dawar, the prime minister announced the establishment of a university, a medical college, a mobile hospital and Danish school in North Waziristan. The prime minister said he would soon announce more development schemes for the district.

    He expressed gratitude to the tribal elders for their support in the war against terrorism for a peaceful and prosperous Pakistan and assured them that the government would do all to bring comfort in local populace and ensure socio-economic development as dividends of the fight against terrorism.

    On arrival in Miramshah, PM Sharif was received by Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa. The prime minister laid floral wreath at the Shuhada monument and offered fateha for valiant sons of the soil who rendered supreme sacrifices while defending the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan.
