    After consecutively losing to Pakistan, Bangladesh beats New Zealand to register historic Test win

    Bangladesh beat New Zealand for the first time in a match at the 16th attempt with an exceptional eight-wicket victory over the world champions on Wednesday at Mount Maunganui, snapping their hosts’ 17-match unbeaten run on home soil.

    The visiting team only needed 40 runs in their second innings for historic win. The match was wrapped up in one session on the final day as Ebadot Hossain took a career best six for 46 and New Zealand was rolled in second inning for 169.

    Bangladesh previously lost all 32 matches played in New Zealand across all formats, including nine Tests, and the team arrived to start this tour following back-to-back losses at home from Pakistan.

    Bangladesh’s first win in any format of the game in New Zealand gave them a 1-0 lead in the two-match series with the second match starting in Christchurch on Sunday.

    Indian lyricist and activist Javed Akhtar took to Twitter on Monday to criticise Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not taking action against Indian the app called “Bulli Bai”, which has been displaying pictures of more than 100 Muslim women for auction.

    The musician expressed his anger and wrote: “There is an online auction of hundred women. There are so-called Dharm Sansads, advising the army the police n the people to go for the genocide of almost 200 MLN Indians. I am appalled with everyone‘s silence including my own n particularly of The PM. Is this Sub ka saath?”

    The poet referred to the slogan “Sab ka saath, Sab ka vikas, Sab ka Vishwas, Sab ka prayaas” that was a part of Narendra Modi’s speech on India’s 75th Independence anniversary.

    However, Javed was trolled by netizens as they started targeting and abusing his great grandfather who was a freedom fighter.

    Singer Asim Azhar recently schooled a group of attendees for misconducting at his concert. The Tera Woh Pyar singer took to his Instagram stories to explain what really happened and why he got angry.

    “Okay, I don’t usually share stuff like this but whoever has come to a concert of mine knows that we tolerate anything but families being disturbed or harassed,” he wrote in his Instagram stories while sharing the video.

    He continued by adding, “With that being said, the guy I was addressing here did not say anything BUT him & his friends were drinking openly & making a family very uncomfortable.”

    “For people thinking this was a stunt can go and think whatever but I will keep calling out people on stage who make my audience uncomfortable. Upar se sab nazar ata hau. Aur Mujhay kuch zyada hi,” added the singer.

    Harry Potter’s Emma Watson shows solidarity with Palestinians

    British actor Emma Watson recently took to social media to share a message in support of the Palestinian movement.

    The actress who rose to fame for her portrayal of Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies — reposted a post originally shared by the Bad Activist Collective on Instagram on January 2.

    Watson accompanied the post with a quote from British-Australian scholar Sara Ahmed, which said “Solidarity does not assume that our struggles are the same struggles, or that our pain is the same pain, or that our hope is for the same future.”

    The quote added, “Solidarity involves commitment, and work, as well as the recognition that even if we do not have the same feelings, or the same lives, or the same bodies, we do live on common ground.”

    Watson’s post garnered widespread acclaim and left many Pro-Palestinian netizens both surprised and elated.

    However, the actor has also been on the receiving end of criticism. Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan strongly criticised her post, calling Watson an “antisemite”.

    Ramiz reportedly instructs marketing team to find sponsor for PSL anthem

    Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ramiz Raja has reportedly instructed the marketing team of the tournament to find a sponsor for the anthem of the seventh edition.

    As per reports, the release of PSL’s anthem is delayed and only the concept of the song is finalised.

    It has also been reported that Pakistani star Atif Aslam has been contacted to compose the song but there has been little progress.

    The seventh edition of the league is set to be started from January 27 and international player will start arriving in Pakistan from January 15.

    Raja chaired a high level meeting with the government of Sindh and District Administration officials/police at the National Stadium Karachi ahead of the upcoming edition of the league. The meetings were reportedly held to finalise the final preparations and security measures of PSL.

    The first leg of the tournament will be played in National Stadium Karachi while the second leg will be played in Gaddafi Stadium Lahore. The final will be played in Lahore on February 27.

    The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) hid 53 bank accounts and funds worth millions of rupees from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

    The report of an ECP scrutiny committee probing the party’s funds revealed the following details.

    The committee’s report showed that the PTI had only disclosed 12 out of its 65 accounts, which are registered with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

    The report stated that in the years 2008/2009 and 2012/2013, the PTI disclosed funding worth Rs1.33 billion against an actual amount of Rs1.64 billion which was reflected in SBP’s bank statement. Therefore, the party did not disclose funding worth Rs310 million.

    A scrutiny committee of the ECP constituted in March 2019 to audit foreign funds of the PTI had finally submitted its report to the commission on November 26, 2021, about six months after the last deadline was given.

    The PTI foreign funding case continues to linger since November 2014 when it was filed by Akbar S. Babar, the party’s founding member.

    In his petition, Babar alleged financial irregularities in the party’s accounts, including illegal sources of funding, concealment of bank accounts in the country and abroad, money laundering and use of private bank accounts of party employees as a front to receive illegal donations from the Middle East.

    High Court seeks answer from PM Khan in defamation case against Khawaja Asif

    The Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued a notice to Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan seeking his response in a defamation case against Khawaja Asif over the PML-N leader’s allegations about misappropriation of funds of Shaukat Khanam Memorial Trust, reports Dawn.

    In the hearing, Chief Justice (CJ) Athar Minallah inquired for how long this case of defamation was lingering in the court? The Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Mohammad Adnan confessed that the delay was from both sides [PM Khan and Asif].

    Back in 2012, the premier had filed the defamation suit against Asif for recovery of Rs10 billion as the latter at a press conference levelled allegations about misappropriation of and money laundering through the Shaukat Khanam funds.

    Earlier, Imran Khan said he was the biggest individual donor of the Shaukat Khanam Hospital from 1991 to 2009. He said baseless allegations were made to undermine people’s confidence in the trust hospital.

    The Punjab government has issued a formal order for the purchase of 46 new cars for provincial ministers and will make an advance payment to a car manufacturer in this regard. The Cabinet Committee has approved payment for purchasing news cars.

    The Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) has issued a final order in this regard. According to reports, the provincial government has released a total of Rs 210 million for the purchase of vehicles. The existing vehicles will be preserved in the transportation pool.

    Punjab Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) Sunday said that the PTI government the provincial government’s spending have been drastically decreased, under the leadership of Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar.

    Popular Korean pop group, BTS leader, Kim Namjoon whose stage name is RM, and sub-vocalist Jin recovered from coronavirus and were also discharged from quarantine.

    BighHit management posted the official statement on the fan community platform, Weverse.

    According to the statement, RM and Jin did not experience any particular health symptoms during quarantine duration however Jin has shown mild symptoms of fever in the early days of home treatment. Now, Jin has fully recovered from covid.

    The company said, “BTS members RM and Jin were notified of their full recovery from COVID-19 and we inform you that starting on January 4 at 12PM KST, their quarantine ended.“

    Both members tested positive on Christmas, December 25.

    Yesterday, group member Suga also fully recovered from coronavirus who was diagnosed with covid on December 24 last year.

    All three members contracted covid after coming back from their official vacation in the United States (US).

    Shahid Afridi believes Hafeez wanted to play more cricket for Pakistan

    Former captain of the Pakistan cricket team Shahid Afridi has said that he believes Mohammad Hafeez, who recently announced his retirement from international cricket, wanted to play more cricket for Pakistan.

    While speaking on Samaa TV’s show Game Set Match, Afridi said that there is a communication gap between PCB and the players.

    “I was listening to his [Hafeez] statement and it was clear from his body language that he wanted to play more cricket for Pakistan rather than leaving early,” said Afridi.

    “I always talk about the communication gap between the PCB and players and I have a strong feeling that the same was the case with Hafeez. Although, it was good to see that he didn’t turn that into a major issue,” he added.

    Afridi also heaped praise on Hafeez over a great international career.

    “I would like to congratulate Hafeez, his family and parents. Hafeez had an outstanding career and he gave many match-winning performances,” he said.

    Hafeez announced his retirement from international cricket 18 years after making his debut in Sharjah against Zimbabwe on 3 April 2003.

    Hafeez represented Pakistan in 392 international matches, scoring 12,780 runs and taking 253 wickets, besides also captaining the side in 32 international matches.
