Shaheen Shah Afridi jumps to top five in Test rankings

Pakistan’s young fast bowler Shaheen Sha Afridi has jumped to the top five of the ICC Test bowling rankings for the first time following his five-for against Bangladesh in Pakistan’s eight-wicket win in the first Test in Chittagong.

Afridi, who finished with a match haul of seven wickets, moved up three places to number 5, overtaking James Anderson, Kagiso Rabada and Neil Wagner in the process.

Each of the three bowlers Afridi has overtaken will have an opportunity to make gains of their own. Wagner could have the first crack if he makes New Zealand’s XI for the second and final Test against India in Mumbai. Anderson is likely to line up for the first Ashes Test next week, while Rabada will spearhead South Africa’s pace attack during their home Tests against India later this month.

Meanwhile, Afridi’s new-ball partner Hassan Ali also moved five places to 11th, his best-ever position so far, following seven wickets in the Chittagong Test. This included figures of 5 for 51 that hastened Bangladesh’s collapse in the first innings after Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim put on 206 runs for the fifth wicket.

Among batters, Tom Latham and Dimuth Karunaratne made significant gains for their efforts in Kanpur and Galle respectively. Latham, who made 95 and 52 in New Zealand’s thrilling draw, jumped five places to No 9, while the Sri Lankan captain was two spots higher at seven following scores of 147 and 83 in Sri Lanka’s 187-run win in the first Test.

Over in Bangladesh, the nature of Pakistan’s come-from-behind win had a few other gainers too. Abid Ali’s 133 and 91 helped him jump 27 slots to a career-best 20th rank, one place above Mushfiqur. Among the other gainers was Bangladesh left-arm spinner Taijul Islam climbed two places to 23rd after picking up a seven-for in Pakistan’s first innings.

Pakistan will play the next Test match against Bangladesh from December 4 to 8.

‘I do not want to pursue an FIR,’ woman withdraws gang-rape allegation

A woman from Karachi who had alleged that she was raped by three men in Lahore has reportedly withdrawn her case, saying that the First Information Report (FIR) registered on her complaint was a “misunderstanding,” reports Dawn.

The 18-year-old registered an FIR against three suspects on November 28. However, a day later she changed her stance and recorded a statement, saying, “I got the FIR registered against the accused persons due to misunderstanding. No one committed rape with me. I do not want to pursue the FIR and the same may kindly be cancelled.”

After her complaint, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar had taken notice of the incident and had also directed officials to arrest the culprits while assuring the victim of justice.

The victim also had declined to get herself medically examined. In her complaint, she said that she used to play Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) during which she befriended a man. According to the complaint, the man asked her to come to Lahore and promised marriage. She arrived in the city on November 23 and the man took her to a local hotel where he raped her for three days. After that, he dropped her off at the train station on November 26 and left.

It is reported that while the woman was waiting at the station, two men approached her and offered a job. She said that the two took her to a house on Sarwar Road where two more men helped them take her into a room. She added that they raped her several times, but eventually she escaped.

Prior to the withdrawal of FIA, the victim had urged authorities to take action against all three men who had raped her.

‘All overseas Pakistanis votes shall go to PTI’: Sheikh Rasheed

Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed on Wednesday, while talking to the media, said that all overseas Pakistanis shall be voting for the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and as a result, the Opposition will have a problem with this.

“40 of Punjab’s and 80 constituencies of the country will be decided by overseas voters,” said Rasheed.

“Go to court or do whatever you want, the law has been made and elections will be conducted through the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM),” said the minister.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb commenting on EVMs said, “Elections shall not happen through EVM. Elections and electoral reforms can not be carried out in an undemocratic and authoritarian manner.”

“They [government] could not get biometrics done for the Corona Fund, Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and Health Card, now they are talking about elections on EVM?” added Aurangzeb.

Aurangzeb further criticising the government said, “Parliament gives funds to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). Funds for national resources and institutions are not Imran Khan’s personal estate.”

Did Asim Azhar just take a dig at alleged-ex Hania Aamir?

Singer Asim Azhar will soon be releasing his first song from his upcoming album. “Ladies and gentlemen, I have waited so long for this moment and finally — my first single from my first album [will be] releasing very soon!” wrote Asim while sharing the teaser of the song which features Fahad Mustafa and Saba Qamar.

For me, my work will always come first.” However, the Galat Fehmi singer has not mentioned any names under his post but after Hania Aamir’s appearance in his concert, we are in position to make a guess that the comment he made was about his alleged ex.

Hania, in a video circulating on social media, can be seen grooving to Asim’s songs at one of his recent concerts.

“We exist because of the work, your love exists because of the work. With that being said, we have put in a lot of hard work, blood and sweat into this. and I really hope you all enjoy it as much. Love you,” he also added to the post.

Asim Azhar and Hania Aamir allegedly dated for a significant period, but the couple later separated without making any official announcement. The alleged couple made it to the news again this year in June. When Hania Aamir was receiving a lot backlash from her fans on posting a video with the Wajahat brothers, Asim took to his Twitter account to post a GIF that people assumed was directed towards Hania.

Asim in a separate tweet posted a long note and said, “aur ab sab kuch kar ke victim ban rahe hain.”

Hania Aamir then posted another long note saying that it is not “ex vs ex debate” adding that for her its about “abuse vs the abuser.”
