  • PM Khan summoned by Supreme Court in APS massacre case

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan arrived at the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) to appear before the apex court’s bench today (Wednesday) after he was summoned to attend a hearing of the Army Public School (APS) massacre, reports Geo News.

The apex court summoned the prime minister to appear before the bench when the hearing resumed at 11:30am, in his personal capacity.

During the previous hearing of the case, parents of the children martyred in the 2014 terrorist attack had complained to the court that they had lost their children in the incident hence the top civil and military leadership of the country should be summoned by the Supreme Court.

During the hearing, the attorney-general sought time from the court to seek directives from the premier and other officials so he can respond to the court.

However, the bench said this was a very serious case and that it would summon the prime minister and seek answers from him.

The attorney-general asked for further time for the prime minister to appear before the court. However, the bench expressed anger at his request and said the parents of the victims of the APS massacre are also in court.

During the hearing, the issue of the government holding talks with the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was also mentioned.

Justice Qazi Amin remarked that there are reports that the government is holding negotiations with a group and added, “Is it not the responsibility of the state to identify the real culprits [behind the APS tragedy] and nab them?”

Meanwhile, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed intervened and said we cannot leave the children alone to die.

Video: Wasim Akram imitates Imran Khan in a hilarious throwback story

Recalling an old incident with Imran Khan, Wasim Akram shared a story about the current Prime Minister of Pakistan. The former left-arm veteran fast bowler often narrates hilarious incidents about PM Khan whenever he appears on television.

Akram, who is currently doing a sports transmission on A Sports, recalled a hilarious incident from Pakistan’s tour to West Indies in the 1980s. Although, the 1992 world cup winning captain was one of the finest bowlers of his time, he had an off-day against the Caribbean.

According to Wasim, the former captain was smashed for plenty of runs in his eight over bowling spell.

“When the team went to practice the next day, Imran Khan saw the bowling figures on the scoreboard and stopped,” Akram said. Imitating PM Khan, Akram added that the skipper then asked Zakir Khan to remove the bowling figures from the scoreboard.

The Sultan of swing was talking about the fourth one-day international of the 1988 series between Pakistan and West Indies. The Pakistan cricket team batted first and scored 271 runs in 43 overs. The Caribbean chased down the target in the 41st over with 7 wickets in hand. Imran Khan was the most expensive bowler as he conceded 76 runs in his 8 overs.

This is not the first time that the former speedster has imitated anyone. Earlier, he also copied Haris Rauf from an incident in which he was being interviewed by Indian cricket host Anjum Chopra and she was speaking difficult Hindi with him. Haris was given Player of the match award for his prolific spell against the New Zealand team and he was finding it difficult to understand her, making weird expressions.

Wasim imitated Rauf while host Fakhr-e-Alam was speaking Hindi for him. Have a look:

‘That’s a true friend!’: Shaniera reacts to Jemima Khan split with ‘The Crown’

Environmentalist activist and former cricketer Wasim Akram’s wife Shaniera Akram reacted to the news about Lady Diana’s close friend Jemima Goldsmith leaving the English Netflix show ‘The Crown’.

She tweeted: “Now that’s a true friend!”

Goldsmith told The Sunday Times that she pulled out after Diana’s story was not handled “as respectfully or compassionately” as she had hoped.

“It was really important to me that the final years of my friend’s life be portrayed accurately and with compassion, as has not always happened in the past,” she added.

“In 2019, Peter Morgan asked me to co-write on the fifth series of ‘The Crown’, particularly those episodes which concerned Princess Diana’s last years before she died,” she said. “After a great deal of thought, having never spoken publicly about any of this before, I decided to contribute.”

“I requested that all my contributions be removed from the series and I declined a credit,” Jemima told the British Newspaper.

On the contrary, a spokesperson for ‘The Crown’ claimed that Jemima has never been contacted as a writer on the series.

“Jemima Khan has been a friend, fan and a vocal public supporter of ‘The Crown’ since season one. She has been part of a wide network of well-informed and varied sources who have provided extensive background information to our writers and research team, providing context for the drama that is ‘The Crown’,” he added.

Australian Actor Elizabeth Debicki is set to play Lady Diana in the next series which is expected to premiere in November 2022.
