    ‘Jaahil’ Sindhis, Firdous Ashiq under fire for her racist comments

    Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Punjab on Information and Culture, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the people of Sindh “are jaahil and lack political consciousness [for repeatedly electing the Pakistan People’s Party]”.

    Firdous Ashiq Awan was speaking on ARY News programme,’11 Hour’.

    Twitterati did not take the words of Firdous Awan well and criticised her remarks.

    A Twitter user wrote, “This is a common mentality of Punjab against Sindh flourished due to national exploitation and establishment’s behaviour towards two nationalities.”

    Another user said, “Sindh has a history of political awareness, democratic traditions, opposing the dictatorial rule.”

    A Twitter user reminded the government of their opinions and said, “With this mindset, If PTI believes that they can make any inroads in Sindh then they live in the fool’s paradise.”

    One man demanded an apology from Dr Firdous, saying, “It’s an insult to the Sindhis and they must demand an apology from her.”

    Man confesses to raping, killing six-year-old in Karachi: Police

    Karachi police arrested a suspect who confessed to raping and killing a six-year-old girl in Korangi, Karachi.

    As per reports, her body was found wrapped in a thick mat at 6 in the morning on Wednesday last week. The post-mortem report of the girl revealed that she was sexually assaulted and her neck was broken.

    According to the police, Zakir, the main suspect, said in his statement that he took the girl in a rickshaw at around 11.30pm and drove around the rickshaw for an hour. He said he was intoxicated when he took the girl to the Sunday bazaar ground around 12.30pm in Korangi.

    According to Zakir’s statement, the victim was still alive after he raped her and was semi-conscious. He said she “suddenly jumped and broke her neck”.

    The criminal said he threw the girl in a garbage dump and told his wife that he had been on a ride after going home.

    Police said that the man bought a ticket to Multan and went home to get his clothes. He called his wife and said he wanted to leave Karachi along with his children

    Prime Minister Imran Khan and several other politicians have showed solidarity with the Turkish government over the loss of lives in Turkey as wildfires sweep the country.

    PM Khan, in his tweet, stated that Pakistan is ready to offer any help at this difficult time. “We stand with the govt & people of Turkey & share in their sorrow at the tragic loss of life in the wildfires tragedy”, he further added.

    Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif, expressed his grief and said, “We send our prayers & best wishes 2 our Turkish brothers & sisters as firefighters are busy putting down fire.”

    Moreover, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Quershi, tagging Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Turkey stated, “Pakistan extends support to the government of Turkey and to our Turkish brothers and sisters over the loss of lives.”

    In addition to this, PML-N’s MPA Hina Parvez Butt and PTI’s Abdul Aleem Khan have also extended their support.

    Support and help are pouring in from throughout the world as planes from Russia and Ukraine helped battle the flames.

    About 70 wildfires have broken out across 17 provinces on the country’s coasts this week resulted in four deaths and the evacuation of thousands, reports Reuters.

    Veteran Pakistani actor Simi Raheal has extended her support to Usman Mukhtar after an artist Mehrooz Waseem, who worked with the Sabaat actor in 2016 accused him of harassing her.

    The Dastaan actor commented under a portal’s post, “Those who know Usman know that all this maliciousness is a lie, false accusation and attention seeking. Usman is a wonderful, respectful, kind and compassionate one a rare one!”

    Earlier, Usman took to Instagram where he shared a series of pictures under the title My Story, saying that he was being harassed for more than a year now.

    Although the 36-year-old refrained from naming the harasser, it was revealed when Mehrooz took to social media and shared her side of the story.

    Mehrooz shared a letter written to the FIA along with voice notes on her Instagram. “Is this the professional gentleman?” the caption reads.

    Furthermore, the budding artist also accused Usman of charging her a lot of money.

    In a startling revelation, she mentioned “unprofessional behaviour” of Usman. “He started telling me about his girlfriend and his private life and what kind of women he liked,” she said.

    46% unhappy, 32% satisfied with Punjab govt: Survey

    46 per cent of the people in Punjab are rating the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) provincial government’s performance as bad, while the PTI still enjoys the support of a good 32 per cent who are satisfied with their performance, reported The News.

    The Institute for Public Opinion Research (IPOR) conducted an all-Punjab survey to gauge the feelings of voters and measure their understanding of the current political situation.

    The voters had a mixed reaction to the situation, on the one hand, half of the voters (49 per cent) were not happy with the rising prices of daily essentials and (57 per cent) declaring things were not heading in the right direction, while on the other hand, despite all these problems, majority 52 percent of the voters said they are still willing to let the current government complete its five-year term.

    49 per cent of the respondents reported inflation as the most important issue they are facing these days, while 19 per cent said unemployment, followed by 13 per cent poverty, and another 09 per cent said corruption.

    A Twitter user named Ghazi Taimoor has won the hearts of many people with a detailed story of how he found and returned the wallet of a man named Rahul. Ghazi Taimoor, who describes himself on Twitter as the Head of Professional Education at the Lahore University of Management Sciences School of Education, found the wallet on Shoreditch High street.

    “Guys! Just found this wallet on Shoreditch High street,” he wrote on Twitter, sharing a picture of the wallet. “Name on the bank card suggests the wallet belongs to a Rahul R******. Time to HUNT RAHUL DOWN,” he added.

    Nora Fatehi’s latest song Zaalima Coca Cola from her upcoming film Bhuj: The Pride of India was released on July 28. The song is a recreated version of Noor Jehan’s iconic song of the same name.

    The recreated version has been composed by Tanishk Bagchi with lyrics by Vayu and has been sung by Shreya Ghoshal.

    Noor Jehan has been given credit in the description but people are still criticising the makers for recreating a Pakistani song in an anti-Pakistani film.
