Zoya Nasir breaks up with fiancé Christian Betzmann

Zoya Nasir has called off her engagement with Christian Betzmann following his degrading comments about Pakistan and insensitive take on the Palestine issue.

In a detailed note posted to social media, Nasir said that Christian’s change in stance towards her “culture, country, people and insensitivity towards [her] religion” lead her to “take this difficult and irrevocable decision”.

“It’s with a heavy heart I’m announcing that Christian Betzmann and I are no longer engaged to be married,” wrote Zoya on Instagram. “There are certain religious and social boundaries that can’t be crossed no matter what, hence, the decision to part ways.”

The actor further said: “Humility, tolerance and respect towards each other are the virtues that we must always adhere to. I look upon my Allah to provide me with the strength to deal with this worldly emotional wreck.”

Wishing “Chris a bright and happy future,” Zoya requested their fans and followers “space and privacy for myself and my family as we begin to navigate this emotional turmoil.”

Zoya and Christian announced their engagement on February 19 and were reportedly set to tie the knot this year.

Meanwhile, Betzmann on Friday while responding to some followers who requested him to raise his voice on the Palestine issue had said that he believes that social media has never helped in any political event and that the strikes of third world countries are useless and waste of time.

The German Vlogger had further said: “It’s better to go pray as praying is the only thing third world countries can do,” adding that “first world countries are based on doers.”

Christian, who recently embraced Islam, even went on to say that “prayers do nothing” and “you can’t do anything.”

He also advised the people of Pakistan to enjoy as long they can because “you never know your country might be next.”

  • Gigi Hadid calls out anti-Semitic people for ‘spreading hate’

Gigi Hadid calls out anti-Semitic people for ‘spreading hate’

Gigi Hadid has called out anti-Semitic supporters of Palestine, calling them “hypocrites” for spreading hate towards the Jews.

“Anti-Semitic people who are using the pro-Palestine movement as an excuse to be violent and/or hateful towards Jewish people should be ashamed of themselves,” wrote the supermodel on Instagram.

Hadid further added: “Their actions are hypocritical to the real Free Palestine. I’ve said this before and I want to make it clear again: By speaking out for equal rights of Palestinian people, I am never condoning violence or hate against the Jewish community.”

“It is unacceptable, especially in the name of another marginalised group,” said Gigi, adding: “Everyone the right to feel safe regardless of their religion, where they’re from,or the actions of their government.”

Sharing another post on her account from a Palestinian, Hadid said: “If you’re pro-Palestine with anti-Semitic intentions, I’m telling you to distance yourself away from the Palestinian cause as much as possible. We don’t want your support. We will not have your ignorance bastardize our fight for equal rights and justice. Which is all in the name of humanity.”

The supermodel further said: “Palestine is a human rights cause. If you’re using this to intimidate members of the Jewish community, who have done you no harm – then you’re defeating the purpose of our cause. And I ask you [to] stay away from us. Do not raise our flag. You are equally hurting us. Sincerely, a Palestinian.”

When Gigi earlier extended her support towards Palestine, she had clarified that she “condemns anti-Semitism” and is not trying to kill anyone.

Meanwhile, Gigi also rubbished fake news circulating on social media about Dior cutting ties with sister Bella Hadid for supporting the Palestinian cause.

Meanwhile, Hadid has also been accused of anti-Semitism after the supermodel voiced support for the people of Palestine amid Israeli violence.

  • Two rare Persian leopards spotted in Balochistan

Two rare Persian leopards spotted in Balochistan

A pair of rare Persian leopards sighted in Pakistan for the first time last year have been filmed and photographed in the wild, officials said Friday.

Sharifuddin Baloch, a senior conservation official in Balochistan province, said the pair were first spotted by rangers on Mount Chaltan in the Hazarganji Wildlife Park six months ago.

Adult leopards are solitary in the wild and pair only to mate.

“We equipped our staff with cameras and binoculars to film the pair and take photos,” Baloch said. “This month our staff succeeded.”

Persian leopards are a panther sub-species native to Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan and the Caucasus. They are extremely rare, however, and listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as endangered.

Fewer than 1,000 are believed to exist in the wild, with another 200 in captivity.

“We are taking steps to protect the rare species,” Baloch told AFP, adding officials were sharing data with the IUCN.

Video shot by park officials shows one of the leopards beautifully camouflaged on a rugged, rocky hillside until it stands up and pads away.

Baloch said there was no previous record of the creature ever being sighted in Pakistan.

Panthera tilliana is bigger and has a different spot pattern to the more common Indian leopard (panthera fusca) found across Pakistan.

Pakistan is also home to vulnerable snow leopards (panthera uncia) in the northern Himalayas.

China’s current COVID-19 vaccines can tackle Indian variants, says expert

China’s current COVID-19 vaccines can fight new coronavirus variants spreading in India and can provide protection “to a certain extent”, based on preliminary research results, a disease control expert claimed on Thursday.

Speaking at a news briefing, Shao Yiming, a researcher at the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, did not elaborate on the specific vaccines or variants he referred to.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) said the predominant lineage of B.1.617 was first identified in India last December, although an earlier version was spotted in October 2020.

The B.1.617 variant found contains two key mutations to the outer “spike” portion of the virus that attaches to human cells, said senior Indian virologist Shahid Jameel.

The WHO has described it as a “variant of interest”, suggesting it may have mutations that would make the virus more transmissible, cause more severe disease or evade vaccine immunity. Other strains with known risks, such as those first detected in the United Kingdom, Brazil and South Africa, have been categorized as “variants of concern,” a higher threat level.

  • Celebs support SMQ after CNN reporter calls him ‘anti-Semitic’

Osman Khalid Butt and Yashma Gill have extended support and defended Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi after CNN’s Senior Global Affairs Analyst and anchorperson Bianna Golodryga labelled him “anti-Semitic” while interviewing him on the ongoing violence in Gaza.

“Please stop using antisemitism as an excuse to silence voices of dissent and to absolve Israel of blame,” said Butt. “Yet another attempt to paint Israel and its zionist ideology as victims.”

Yashma Gill also lashed out at the CNN anchorperson saying: “Accusing Israel of ‘controlling the media’ is no way an attack on the Jews or their religion.”

“It is a political statement from one person of influence to another,” said Yashma. “And Bianna Golodryga wasting an entire interview where she could have allowed CNN viewership to hear another side of political issues is an example of controlling the media by spinning a story.”

“If it is so simple for her to do it [spinning the story, then] why not Israel?” questioned Gill.

Omair Rana also tweeted in support of Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

Earlier, Sheheryar Munawar had also called out international media outlets for their “biased” coverage of Israeli atrocities against the people of Palestine

  • Christian Betzmann under fire for insensitive take on Palestine issue, criticising Pakistan

Christian Betzmann under fire for insensitive take on Palestine issue, criticising Pakistan

German travel vlogger Christian Betzmann is at the receiving end of flak for his insensitive take on the Palestine issue and criticism on Pakistan.

The Israeli armed oppression against the defenseless Palestinians has been making headlines all over the world. The catastrophic bombing in Gaza is being fearlessly conducted by the Israeli forces while the poor Palestinians continue to suffer from the worst humanitarian crisis. Amidst the ongoing violence in the Palestinian region, many common people, celebrities and social media influencers all across the world have shown support for the Palestinians.

Christian shared his views on his Instagram stories and people were not happy with his take on it. One of the netizens used foul language with the YouTuber and Christian, instead of ignoring him, insulted Pakistani people and the country as a whole.

Meanwhile, in a conversation with an influencer Muznah, the Vlogger shared his opinion regarding the Palestine issue, saying he believes that social media has never helped in any political event.

He further added the strikes of third world countries are useless and waste of time , while also commenting that this thought is “naïve.”

The German Vlogger even openly wrote that you have no power and concluded his statement, saying: “It’s better to go pray as praying is the only thing third world countries can do.”

Whereas, “first world countries are based on doers,” he declared.

Christian who recently embraced Islam said: “Prayers do nothing” and “you can’t do anything.”

The Vlogger also said that the people of Pakistan must enjoy as long they can because “you never know your country might be next.”

Here is the conversation of the two:

Tiktoker Romaisa Khan also confronted Betzmann regarding his statement

Romaisa explained that Pakistan has its own sets of problems but they can’t be wrongfully compared to what the Palestinians are going through, as Christian had. She even called Christian a selfish man who now is talking trash about the country which warmly welcomed him with love.

The Tiktok star also shared how she was unfollowed by Christian even though he was the one who had initially followed her on Instagram.

Instagram influencer Khaqan Shahnawaz, who is soon to be seen in Mahira Khan’s Baarwan Khiladi also bashed the Vlogger and asked him to go back to his country if he hates this “Third World Country” so much.

“If you don’t want to protest, then don’t. But don’t you dare say anything about my country, otherwise I will eat you alive,” said Khaqan jokingly.

Christian responded to the backlash by saying that he condemns whatever is happening in Palestine but choosing to not speak about an issue should not be treated as an opportunity to insult him.

He continued to press upon his own point of view and said in his own words, ”calling people bad words just because they don’t want to share their opinion is stupid.” He further said that if social media was as powerful as people were saying it was then it would have helped Pakistanis to fix their issues too.

Later, Betzmann said that he stands with the people of Palestine.

Meanwhile, Christian’s fiancée and Pakistani actress Zoya Nasir has not yet commented on the matter. However, she lauded Bella Hadid for her bravery and refusing to “bow down and stand for what is right.”

Despite a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which was announced early Friday morning, Israel ruthlessly attacked worshippers at Al-Aqsa during Friday prayers.

  • William, Harry lash out at BBC for ‘commercializing a false narrative of their mother’

William, Harry lash out at BBC for ‘commercializing a false narrative of their mother’

Prince William has lashed out at BBC for contributing to his mother’s “fear, paranoia and isolation” shortly before her unfortunate death. William’s comments came shortly after an independent investigation concluded that journalist Martin Bashir tricked princess Diana into giving an explosive interview in which she lifted the lid on her troubled marriage to Prince Charles.

In a video message, the Duke of Cambridge accused the media outlet of “commercializing a false narrative of his mother” and expressed outrage over their exploitative behaviour.

“What saddens me most, is that if the BBC had properly investigated the complaints and concerns first raised in 1995, my mother would have known that she had been deceived. She was failed not just by a rogue reporter, but by leaders at the BBC who looked the other way rather than asking the tough questions,” said the prince.

‘It is my firm view that this Panorama program holds no legitimacy and should never be aired again. It effectively established a false narrative which for over a quarter of a century, has been commercialized by the BBC and others,” added William.

William also accused BBC of poisoning Diana’s relationship with husband Prince Charles.

“It is my view that the deceitful way the interview was obtained substantially influenced what my mother said. The interview was a major contribution to making my parents’ relationship worse and has since hurt countless others,” said the heir-to-the-throne.

“It brings indescribable sadness to know that the BBC’s failures contributed significantly to her fear, paranoia and isolation that I remember from those final years with her.”

Meanwhile, William’s brother Harry, who quit royal life last year, said the inquiry report was “the first step towards justice and truth” but that the deceptive practices exposed were still widespread today — and had played a part in his mother’s death.

“The ripple effect of a culture of exploitation and unethical practices ultimately took her life,” he added.

“Our mother lost her life because of this, and nothing has changed. By protecting her legacy, we protect everyone and uphold the dignity with which she lived her life. Let’s remember who she was and what she stood for,” added Harry in his statement.

Harry’s comments echoed those of Diana’s brother Charles Spencer, who earlier blamed the fallout from the 1995 interview for contributing to her death nearly two years later.

“She didn’t know who to trust and in the end, when she died two years later, she was without any form of real protection,” Spencer said.

Questions have long been asked about how Bashir convinced Diana to talk on the BBC’s flagship Panorama programme in November 1995, which was watched by a record 22.8 million people and won a string of television awards.

In it, she famously said, “there were three people” in her marriage — her, Charles and his long-time mistress and now wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles — and also admitted adultery.

Bashir, now 58, was little-known at the time of the interview but went on to have a high-profile career on US television networks, and interviewed stars such as Michael Jackson.

He returned to work for the corporation as religion editor until he stepped down last week, citing ill health, just hours before Dyson’s report was submitted to BBC bosses. However, he issued a statement saying that he “remains proud of the interview” which has been used to “overshadow Princess’s struggles”.

BBC Director-General Tim Davie also issued a public apology saying: “While the BBC cannot turn back the clock after a quarter of a century, we can make a full and unconditional apology. The BBC offers that today.”
