“I’m in a catch-22 situation, really,” says Aishwarya in the video, which initially came out a year after the film released. “Though I’m a newcomer, I’m [being] compared [to] all senior actresses.”

“If I’d done the film, it would have been tittered that, ‘Look, Aishwarya Rai is back to doing what she did in her modelling days — leaving her hair straight, wearing minis, and pouting glamorously into the camera.’ Ultimately, the hero goes back to the more real person.”

“I know if I’d done Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, I would have been lynched,” she added.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which released in 1998, featured Sharukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherji in the lead. It was directed by Karan Johar and produced by Yash Johar. The film was a box office hit and went onto receive many accolades. It has also been listed as one of Bollywood’s most iconic films of all times.

Historic first: India could participate in military exercises in Pakistan this year

In yet another signal that the ties between Islamabad and New Delhi are improving every day, India could take part in a multi-nation exercise to be hosted by Pakistan later this year at its premier anti-terrorism centre in Nowshera district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

The exercise will be held under the aegis of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

According to Indian media reports, if the plan goes through, it would be a historic event, given that it would be the first time that Indian forces will travel to Pakistan for any military exercise.

The decision to hold the joint exercise “Pabbi-Antiterror-2021” was announced during the 36th meeting of the Council of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on March 18.

The development comes at a time when Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa last week stressed on the need for India and Pakistan to “bury the past and move forward”. Just weeks ago, the two countries had agreed to observe ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC).

Meanwhile, a report by Bloomberg has claimed that United Arab Emirates (UAE) Royals are brokering Pakistan-India peace.

  • COVID-19: Get vaccinated privately for only Rs4,225 per injection

With the federal cabinet deciding to cap the maximum retail price of Russian and Chinese coronavirus vaccine injections imported by the private sector, the Drug Pricing Committee of Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) had proposed the same for two vaccines.

Only those of 60 years of age or above are currently being vaccinated free of cost by the government in the absence of a wider state-run vaccination programme.

However, Sputnik V’s GAM-Covid-Vac solution manufactured by the FSBI NF Gamalaya RCEM of the Russian Health Ministry and Convidecia vaccine manufactured by CanSino Biologics Inc will soon be available for Pakistanis seeking to get privately vaccinated against the deadly virus.

The government has fixed the maximum sale price of Sputnik V vaccine at Rs8,449 for two doses and China’s Convidecia at Rs4,225 per injection, showed the summary of the National Health Services and Regulations Ministry.

Further details have not yet been disclosed.

  • Large asteroid to zip past Earth today

Large asteroid to zip past Earth today

The largest asteroid to pass by Earth this year is expected to swing closest on Monday, giving astronomers a rare chance for a good look at a space rock that formed at the dawn of our solar system.

While in astronomical terms this marks a close encounter with the asteroid — called 2001 FO32 — Nasa says there is no threat of a collision with “our planet now or for centuries to come”.

The nearest it will get will be two million kilometres away, according to the US space agency.

That is roughly 5.25 times the distance of the Earth from the Moon, but still close enough for 2001 FO32 to be classified as a “potentially hazardous asteroid”.

“We know the orbital path of 2001 FO32 around the Sun very accurately,” said Paul Chodas, director of the Center for Near Earth Object Studies.

Nasa says 2001 FO32 would pass by at about 124,000 kilometres per hour, much faster than the speed at which most asteroids encounter Earth.

The asteroid is estimated to be about 900 metres in diameter and was discovered 20 years ago.

Astronomers are hoping to get a better understanding of the asteroid’s size and a rough idea of its composition by studying light reflecting off its surface.

Ahsan Khan calls out Priyanka for saying her dad used to ‘sing’ in a mosque

Trust Priyanka Chopra Jonas to pass the most inconsiderate comments ever.

The actor while speaking to Oprah Winfrey opened up about her religious side and gave an insight into how her life was while growing up.

Talking about her spiritual journey, Priyanka said that she had been influenced by different religions throughout her life, ranging from Hinduism to Christianity and Islam.

“With the swirling number of religions that live in the country [India]… I grew up in a convent school,” said Chopra. “So I was aware of Christianity. My dad used to sing in a mosque and that made me well aware of Islam. Being a Hindu and coming from a Hindu family, I adapted the rituals and teachings from Hinduism.”

“Spirituality is such a large part of India that you can’t ignore it,” she added.

Priyanka further shared that her late father educated her about all faiths.

“I am a Hindu. I pray and have a temple in my home. I do it as often as I can. But truly to me, I am a believer that a higher power does exist and I like to have faith in that,” she said.

Soon after Priyanka’s comments about her dad “singing” in a mosque went viral on social media, Ahsan Khan among countless others, expressed their shock over the actor’s religiously insensitive comments.

  • Pakistan’s first transgender-only madrasa breaking barriers

One Rani Khan has set up the first transgender-only madrasa with her life savings.

Transgender people have faced discrimination in formal education system, although there is no official restriction on them attending schools or offering prayers in mosques.

“Families do not accept transgender people. They throw them out of their homes. Transgenders turn to wrongdoing. At one time, I was also one of them,” said Khan.

Rani Khan was disowned by her family at the age of 13 and forced into begging. She joined a transgender group at the age of 17. She earned living by dancing at weddings and other events.

However, she quit this work when a deceased fellow transgender persuaded her to do something for the community in a dream.

Khan studied Quran at home and attended religious schools before opening the two-room madrasa in October.

“I am teaching the Quran to please God, to make my life here and in the hereafter.”

She further said that the school did not receive aid from the government, although some officials promised to help students find jobs.

With the help of some donations, Rina is teaching her students how to sew and embroider in hopes of raising funds for the school by selling clothes.

Pakistan’s parliament recognised the third gender in 2018, giving such individuals fundamental rights such as the ability to vote and choose their gender on official documents.

Nonetheless, the transgender community remains on the margins in the country and often has to resort to begging, dancing and prostitution to make a living.

Pakistan’s 2017 census recorded about 10,000 transgender people, though trans rights groups say the number could now be well over 300,000 in the country of 220 million.

“This new platform is going to be big,” remarked Miller, predicting that Trump will draw “tens of millions of people”.

Trump’s Facebook and Twitter account got suspended after deadly riots broke out at the US Capitol in Washington DC on January 6.

While Miller refrained from sharing further details, he said that “everybody is going to be waiting and watching to see what exactly President Trump does”.

In the meantime, Miller said that Trump will continue to endorse Republican candidates, hinting that one is expected to come on Monday.

“There’s a big endorsement coming that’s going to shake things up in the political landscape in Georgia. It’s big, it’s coming tomorrow, and just be sure to tune in,” said Miller.

The former president had nearly 90 million followers on the social platform.

Editorial – Ignore conspiracy theories; get vaccinated!

Prime Minister Imran Khan and First Lady Bushra Bibi tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday. They are both self-isolating at home and are feeling “comfortable with mild symptoms” according to government spokespersons.

The news of PM Khan testing positive was announced by Dr Faisal Sultan on Twitter, and people started questioning the efficacy of the coronavirus vaccine, since the premier had just been administered the first dose.

It also led to a lot of conspiracy theories. In a country where many have led a vicious campaign against polio drops, it is extremely crucial that these myths be busted. Therefore, it was good to see the Government of Pakistan’s official social media accounts as well the Ministry of National Health’s social media account give a clarification about the vaccination process.
