    Nawaz won’t return, PML-N lawmakers won’t resign: Sheikh Rasheed

    After the Pakistan People’s Party expressed its reluctance to quit the national and provincial assemblies, Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed commented that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) too will follow suit and step back from its decision to quit parliament.

    In a conversation with the media, he talked about the Senate elections and the opposition’s participation in the polls. Rasheed said in spite of the PPP reportedly wanting Nawaz Sharif to come back, the PML-N supreme leader will stay in London.

    The PML-N members will not submit their resignations from the national or provincial assemblies as they have claimed, he claimed, adding that the party will even take part in the by-polls.

    He said the PML-N lawmakers are already agitated after the National Assembly speaker summoned two of them to verify their resignation letters that were allegedly sent to the secretariat on the respective official letterheads. He was referring to controversial resignation letters that the PML-N leaders claimed were submitted to the party, but they found their way to the speaker’s office.

    Rasheed also appreciated PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari’s political acumen, saying the former president was a good politician but PM Imran Khan was doing better than him.

    Zardari had recently suggested that the PDM should focus on its fight against the government instead of dictating each other on how to go about it.

    He had made made these comments in an apparent reference to the calls for resignations supported by the PML-N and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

  • Khawaja Asif arrested; ‘had a bag packed already’

    Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former foreign minister Khawaja Asif was on Tuesday arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from Islamabad, a spokesperson for the bureau and PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb confirmed.

    As per the details, Asif was taken into custody in the backdrop of an ongoing investigation into allegations of him possessing assets beyond known sources of income to the tune of whopping Rs260 million.

    Aurangzeb said he was arrested from near PML-N general secretary Ahsan Iqbal’s house.

    He has been taken to the NAB Rawalpindi office, Geo News reported citing sources. Reports said that a consultative session of the party is currently underway to debate whether PML-N will take part in senate elections.

    Asif left the meeting and was moments later arrested near Iqbal’s residence. Aurangzeb said Asif will be presented before an accountability court tomorrow for remand.

    While PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz among other party leaders are lauding Asif for his “undeterred support for Nawaz Sharif”, senior journalist and analyst Hamid Mir on his show Capital Talk said that the former foreign minister knew he would be arrested and had even made preparations beforehand for what he considered an “eventuality”.

    “He had prepared a bag as well and would say that the NAB would arrest him soon,” said Mir.

    When prompted by the anchor to comment whether Asif’s arrest was a “reactionary move” to Maryam Nawaz’s speech in Larkana on Sunday, Muhammad Zubair, who had also left the meeting to appear on the show, said, “Of course. When the popularity and impact [of the PDM] is on the rise, we knew that they would react in some way. And today, we have seen that reaction.”

    Hania Aamir, in a video posted to her YouTube channel, has announced that she will now be making TikTok videos as she is obsessed with them.

    The first video that she tried making involved her entering the car from one door and exiting from the other. When she exits the second door, her clothes change.

    The second and third videos involved her indulging in tricks in which she instantly changed her clothes and shoes.

    While Hania’s initial TikTok videos were viral challenges, she wanted to make some original content so she decided to make a video in which she plays the double-role of a mother and daughter. The daughter runs to her room to dodge the slipper but the slipper follows her to the room and starts banging on the door.

    Once the banging stops, the daughter thinks she is safe but immediately the slipper hits her head and her outfit changes and she turns into a girl who does house chores.

    Ending the video, Hania asked her followers to rate her TikTok videos by commenting ‘ON’ or ‘OFF’.

    Varun-Sara’s ‘Coolie No. 1’ rates lower than ‘Race 3’ on IMDb

    Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan remake of 1995 hit Coolie No. 1 released on Christmas and fans were more than just disappointed with how the film turned out. So much so that the film ranks lower than the Salman Khan starrer Race 3 on IMDb.

    The movie which also features Javed Jaffery, Paresh Rawal and Johnny Lever in pivotal roles has been directed by David Dhawan himself. Dhawan had also directed the original version starring Govinda and Karishma Kapoor in the lead.

    Govinda fans are also very upset with the director and cast for remaking an iconic movie by ripping the best parts into shreds. While the director brought in more vibrancy and colour to the film as well a modern touch, it doesn’t seem to have resonated well with the audiences. 

    Race 3, which released in 2018, was ranked 1.9 on IMDb, which was considered one of the poorest ratings ever. However, Coolie No. 1 has beaten Race 3 with an IMDb rating of 1.4 only. It fares only better than Sadak 2, that has an abysmal 1.1/10 rating on IMDB. Sadak 2 stars Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt and Aditya Roy Kapoor.

  • PPP says will not quit assemblies, won’t take ‘dictation’

    The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has decided to oppose the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) decision to submit mass resignations, saying it would provide the government with an opportunity to undo democratic legislation.

    The decision was made during a meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee that had met to mull the options of mass resignations and long march towards Islamabad.

    The PPP leadership said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government could repeal the 18th Amendment and other laws that strengthened democracy.

    It further said the party was open to discussing this option but after the return of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. It may be noted here that Nawaz is in London for the past year on account of frail health.

    The PPP said it will stand by the commitments it made with the PDM leadership, but it will not take dictation from other parties.

    On Sunday, the PPP co-chairman, Asif Ali Zardari, made a similar statement, wherein he had said that the PDM parties needed to change their tactics and stop dictating each other on how to put up a fight against the government.

    According to reports, the top PPP leadership wasn’t happy with PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman’s decision to skip the Larkana gathering held to commemorate Benazir Bhutto’s death anniversary.

    “Maulana Fazlur Rehman did not attend Benazir Bhutto’s death anniversary due to local politics,” a report in Geo News claimed. Fazl didn’t attend the key PPP rally, but he still wanted the party to quit assemblies on his call, the report quoted the participants of the CEC as saying.

    Meanwhile, the PDM will hold an important meeting later this week to discuss the future course of the anti-government alliance.

    Divorce rates spike in Rawalpindi

    A noticeable surge in divorce cases has been reported in Rawalpindi. As per reports, as many as 550 couples parted ways, sought a divorce and received couples effectiveness certificates from the district court. In addition to that, over 250 couples have filed applications in MCR for issuance of khula certificates.

    As per details, over 2,900 divorce cases are still pending in Rawalpindi’s district courts.

    Talking to a local media outlet MCR Council Officer (CO) Noshia Afzal said: “The divorce ratio is increasing to an alarming level”. She further said that “it is unfortunate over 95 per cent of couples do not agree to live together insisting on the issuance of divorce effectiveness certificates.”

    Stating the reasons behind the increase in divorce cases, Afzal remarked that “poverty was not the reason for divorce, but a poor family structure, unacceptance, and misunderstandings.” She said that even highly educated couples were opting for divorce frequently, adding that people were not taking their marriages seriously.

    Meanwhile, 6,000 marriages were registered during this period.
