  • Man arrested for smuggling drugs in wedding outfits

Police arrested a gang that was smuggling drugs to the United Kingdom in lehengas. The suspect identified as Najam Rafique was arrested in Dadyal. Najam was caught in possession of many packs of heroin hidden inside wedding outfits.

As per reports, Najam is a part of an international drug network that is smuggling drugs to the UK. A heroin smuggler who goes by Mushtaq Nawabi is an important member of this international drug gang. Mushtaq is currently hiding in Dubai.

Police officer Faisal Siddique (SHO) said that the arrest was made after getting hints that Nawabi has been transporting drugs concealed in lehengas to the UK.

Najam was traveling on a motorcycle when he was stopped and arrested. The five lehengas in his possession were laced with 1.5 kg of heroin. After his arrest, he revealed that “In total ten lehengas were to be sent to the UK with the drugs inside them.”

Najam’s arrest was just one in a series of raids to bust this international drug network. While this gang is run by Mushtaq Nawabi, the mastermind is his son-in-law Hafiz Mansoor Sultani from Kotli. Hafiz Mansoor is also living and hiding in Dubai.

During a police press conference, DSP Nadeem Arif and Faisal Siddique asserted that the gang target poor people to work for them. Najam Rafique has received Rs 5 lakhs (£2,500) commission for 10 lehengas.
Sometimes people are offered transport ‘gifts‘ in exchange for money. Sometimes people don’t even realize they’re being used.

New fuel taxes burden masses with additional Rs25 billion

The taxes imposed by the Federal government has burdened people with additional Rs25 billion per month who are already burdened with inflation, Pakistan Today reported.

In comparison with a decline in global oil prices, the government did not provide any relief to the masses. They said the government had reduced per litre prices of petroleum products by Rs 5 instead of Rs15 litre. The government had fixed petroleum levy (PL) — imposed tex — on high-speed diesel at Rs25 per litre, which had failed to provide relief to the masses.

Tax on petrol has increased by 106pc, if the taxes weren’t increased, petrol prices could have decreased by Rs 9 per litre. Instead of giving any relief, the government has imposed an additional tax of Rs6 per litre on kerosene oil.

Furthermore, the government was likely to earn Rs60 billion per month from the taxes imposed on different petroleum products.

According to the report, the government has increased taxes to meet the demand of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)

Sarmad Khoosat says the ‘film/TV fraternity’ is a joke

While the Federal Government had said that the film will be reviewed by the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), the Punjab Government had directed the filmmaker to hold a screening on February 3 so that the film can be reviewed again. However, the screening has not taken place as yet. It is pertinent to mention here that the provincial and central censor boards had earlier cleared the film for release with a few cuts.

Ever since the film was barred from release, director Sarmad had not made a public statement regarding the film. His father, Irfan Khoosat, who had filed a case against Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) for interfering in the smooth release of the film also withdrew his petition for reasons unknown.

Meanwhile, TLP chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi had remarked that he would not let the film release no matter what saying: “We will not let Zindagi Tamasha release and will do whatever it takes to make sure it does not see the light of day.”

Delhi riots: Indian Muslims put end to decade-old land dispute with Sikhs to thank them

Muslim and Sikh communities have decided to put an end to a 10-year-old land dispute that had led to riots in Saharanpur city of Uttar Pradesh (UP) back in 2014 and claimed at least three lives.

As a gesture of gratitude for the help offered by Sikhs during Delhi riots starting last week, the Muslim community has decided to forego its claim on a piece of land that had been purchased by the gurdwara management and was a bone of contention between the two religious communities of India.

The dispute pertains to an incident that took place two decades ago when a gurdwara committee in the Kutubsher area purchased land around an existing gurdwara with the objective of expanding the complex. After the acquisition, some old structures in the area were demolished including, allegedly, a mosque.

Things turned violent when in July 2014 construction work to expand the gurdwara complex began. This led to large scale violence and arson which resulted in the deaths of three people and injured 33.

The matter subsequently reached the Supreme Court of India (SCI). But now Muslims have decided to forego its claim on the piece of land. Instead, they will be allotted land at another location nearby and the gurdwara management will pay for the construction of the mosque.

“In view of the great service and support rendered by the Sikhs to Muslims in Delhi throughout the protests and most recently during the riots in Delhi, the Masjid committee in Saharanpur decided to give up its claim over the land as a token of gratitude and thanksgiving,” Nizam Pasha, who represented the Muslim side in the Supreme Court, told The Quint.

The petitioner, Moharram Ali, has also said that the gesture comes as a show of gratitude for the help and aid provided by the Sikh community to affected families in Delhi’s communal violence. “Sikhs stand for humanity. They help people in need. The helped people affected by the communal violence in Delhi. This is God’s work.”

Sindh govt rebuts claims regarding first coronavirus case being a ‘hoax’

    • Local English daily had claimed student quarantined at private Karachi hospital under strong suspicions of coronavirus had ‘conclusively tested negative for the disease

Sindh health officials have rebutted a media report claiming that the first case of coronavirus in Pakistan, which was reported in Karachi last week, “had turned out to be a hoax” as the 22-year-old patient, who was quarantined at a private hospital under strong suspicions of coronavirus, had “conclusively tested negative for the disease”.

According to The News, Karachi University (KU) student Syed Muhammad Yahya Jafri had recently returned from Iran and developed symptoms of influenza.

“The symptoms, coupled with the fact that he had recently returned from Iran, made the doctors and senior provincial health management prematurely declare him as the first case of coronavirus in Pakistan without receiving his final lab reports wherein he tested negative for the virus,” the report had said.

READ: Two coronavirus cases confirmed in Pakistan

It had quoted KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mehmood Iraqi as confirming that Jafri’s medical and laboratory reports “clearly indicated he was not suffering from coronavirus”.

“Jafri and his family members who were quarantined by Sindh’s Health Department at a private hospital were discharged on Friday,” he was quoted as saying, adding that a large number of students, including Jafri’s classmates at the varsity’s Department of International Relations, were also tested in the same hospital. “None of them were found affected by coronavirus.”

The claims were, however, refuted by Sindh Health Secretary Zahid Abbasi, who said that the youngster was being kept in isolation after testing positive for coronavirus.
