Khan ready for talks with government, says Barrister Gohar

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar has told journalists on Tuesday outside Adiala Jail that Imran Khan has given a green signal for talks with the government.

“We told the PTI founder that dialogue is necessary, as distances are widening. He agreed with us [on this],” said Gohar.

Barrister Gohar said that Imran Khan is ready to forgive what has happened to him for the sake of the country.

Gohar emphasised that it would be PTI’s own decision to negotiate when asked if the negotiations would take place with the help of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

He also mentioned that the party will begin negotiations after talking to Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai.

“We have never refused to negotiate. The ice is breaking. We want things to improve,” said Gohar.

PTI founder’s decision to change his rigid stance comes after his interaction with Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa during a hearing in the NAB amendments case a few days ago.

CJP told Khan to go to the parliament as the “country needs to move forward.”

Apple is integrating OpenAI’s artificial intelligence platform ChatGPT feature with Siri in iPhones.

Apple announced a makeover of Siri along with several other new features at its annual developers show Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) at the company’s headquarters in California on Monday. Apple has named this AI system ‘Apple Intelligence’ and it aims to give users a way to easily navigate Apple devices.

It has partnered with OpenAi, the Developer of ChatGPT, under which its iPhone and Mac operating systems will have access to ChatGPT.

ChatGPT can also be used to augment the capabilities of other tools, including tasks such as text and content generation. Its experimental or test version will be available by fall.

UK earned £5.3 million from rejected Pakistani visa applications

According to research by Lago Collective, the United Kingdom and Schengen countries earned millions of pounds and euros by collecting fees from rejected visa applications from Global South countries including Pakistan.

The report revealed that Pakistanis spent £5.3 million on rejected UK visa applications with almost 40 percent of rejected applications in 2023 alone.

In the same year, around 50 percent of Schengen visas from Pakistan were also rejected, with €3.344m spent on applications.

Marta Foresti, co-researcher of the Lago Collective research paper, highlighted, “Visa inequality has very tangible consequences and the world’s poorest pay the price. You can think of the costs of rejected visas as ‘reverse remittances’, money flowing from poor to rich countries.”

According to Foresti, “Visa regimes are not equal or reciprocal,” emphasizing that while European citizens can easily obtain a visa to a third-world country; the situation isn’t similar when any poor country’s citizen tries to obtain a visa to Europe.

Meanwhile, visa application fees are increasing which means an extra burden on those trying to move towards better opportunities abroad.
