    Gold medalist to shoe-seller; two youths killed in Karachi

    Two incidents of youth being robbed and killed in Karachi have been reported in the past three days.

    20-year-old Abdul Basit was murdered by two robbers upon resistance near the Nasir Jump area of Korangi. He belonged to Quetta and used to sell slippers.

    An investigation has revealed that Basit had given money and mobile phones to the robbers but the robbers still shot him dead.

    Another incident that is making waves is the death of 27-year-old Itteqa Moin, a gold medalist mechanical engineer, and Hafiz-e-Quran who was killed on Saturday by robbers in Gulshan-i-Iqbal. The young man was pursuing an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration and got married a year ago.

    CCTV footage shows Itteqa returning from a bakery run when he was halted by two armed men on a motorcycle. They snatched his motorcycle, mobile phone, and cash, and started beating him, eventually shooting him dead.

    The family claims that the incident took place near their home and Itteqa had not put up resistance but was killed while the police’s version says that he did show “some resistance” and this provoked the robbers to open fire at him.

    SHO of the area has been suspended over failure to control crimes while the police investigation is ongoing.

    Police said that in Korangi Crossing, citizens caught two robbers and handed them over to the police in a severely injured condition. One of them died of serious injuries from the violence while the condition of the other is critical.

    However, the robber who was handed over to the police was not involved in the murder of Abdul Basit.

    Dawn’s Imtiaz Ali reported on April 5 this year that data presented in front of a high-level committee shows that more than 250 Karachiites were shot dead and 1,052 others were wounded by street criminals between 2022 and March 28, 2024.

    Mother of murdered Italian teenager arrested in Pakistan

    After dodging arrest for three years, the mother of Saman Abbas has been taken into custody in Azad Kashmir, Italian news agency Ansa has said.

    The 18-year-old was an Italian-Pakistani teenager who went missing in the Reggio Emilia on April 30, 2021, and her body was found in November 2022.

    Her mother, Nazia Shaheen, left Italy after the murder. An international arrest warrant was issued against her.

    The arrest is said to be made possible through joint efforts between Interpol and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

    Shaheen was taken to Islamabad, where she appeared before the court on Friday for the extradition procedure.

    Her husband, Shabbar Abbas, was also extradited to Italy in August 2023 after he came to Pakistan following the murder b

    In December 2023, a court in Reggio Emilia sentenced the couple to life in prison in absentia after finding them guilty of homicide.

    Ansa reports that as per the orders by Italian judges, Saman’s mother “may have been the person who actually carried out the murder.”

    The judges also dismissed the widely believed notion that Saman’s refusal to marry an older man in Pakistan was the motive for the murder. Instead, they determined that the killing was a “spur of the moment” act, driven by anger over the victim’s desire to leave home and live with her boyfriend.

    Saman’s uncle was also extradited from France for the trial. He has been sentenced to 14 years, while two cousins were acquitted.

    Domestic abuse victim leaves her four children in Greater Iqbal Park

    A woman from Sambariyal in Sialkot district allegedly left her four children in the Greater Iqbal Park in Lahore after becoming fed up with the domestic abuse carried out by husband.

    The children were taken into protective custody by the Child Protection Bureau.

    The mother left her four young children homeless in Greater Iqbal Park, reports Geo News.

    One of the children, seven-year-old child Zain, told the police that he was a resident of Sambaryal and his father used to beat his mother daily. Police started the search for his parents on Zain’s information and handed over the children to the Child Protection Bureau team.

    Zain informed the police that their mother and father’s names are Urooj and Bilal respectively.

    Among the children found in Greater Iqbal Park, three girls and one boy are aged between 8 months and 7 years, as per the Child Protection Bureau.

    Chairperson Child Protection Bureau Sarah Ahmed informed Geo News that the children will be well taken care of in the Child Protection Bureau.

    Prisoner allegedly raped by jail inmates in Adiala

    A prisoner in Adiala jail has allegedly been gang-raped by fellow inmates, Geo’s Shabbir Ahmad Dar has reported.

    The victim told the police that he was gang raped on May 18 at 11 o’clock in the night when two inmates forced themselves upon him together.

    The police says a case has been registered at the Sadar Baruni police station on the complaint of the victim.

    Kidnapped girl found from sister’s home in Kotri

    Local police have resolved the mysterious disappearance of an 8th grade student from Kotri area. The missing girl, Karishma Magsi, was recovered from her sister’s house.

    News of the girl’s disappearance went viral on social media.

    Express Tribune reported that Karishma’s father Himmat Ali Magsi initially lodged a case of Karishma’s abduction against his three nephews including Naik Mohammad Magsi, Amir Magsi, and Munir Ahmed Soomro in Kotri police station.

    The police reported that Karishma was recovered from her elder sister’s house living in Daur. The raid happened 12 days after the incident. Later, she was produced in the court.

    The police revealed that the girl’s father created the hoax of her kidnapping and registered a case against the nephews because of his personal enmity with them over property and other domestic issues.

    SHO Khair Muhammad Mallah said that action would be taken against Himmat Ali Magsi for lodging a false case.

    However, Karishma’s parents along with their relatives, protested in front of Kotri Press Club.

    They alleged that the abductors left the child at her elder sister’s house as soon as the case was registered. They also accused the police of pressurising and harassing them.

    They demanded that the Chief Minister and IG Sindh take notice of the unfair attitude of the police and provide justice.

    COMSATS director Dr. Syed Asad Hussain has been accused by his wife of subjecting her to abuse in front of their children.

    CCTV footage available with The Current shows that Asad Hussain, in a fit of fury, pushed his wife. Eventually, their children came out and tried to shield their mother. While the professor did not hold back, the children made an effort to bring the mother inside and expel their father from the gate.

    COMSATS website explains that Dr. Asad Hussain is the Director, having studied at Cardiff University and postgraduate University of Sydney Australia in 2010.

    In the First Investigation Report (FIR) registered with the police of an upscale housing society in Lahore, the victim states that in 20 years of marriage, her husband has allegedly physically abused her multiple times and has threatened her with divorce. However, she kept silent because of her three children.

    On April 3, the husband started cursing her in front of the front gate of the house and pushed her in the car which the children witnessed from the terrace and rushed to help their mother. He again threatened to kick her out of the house or kill her. The children and victim took a stand and told him that the house is theirs. They eventually push him out of the main gate.

    FIR states that while the children and mother tried to reconcile, Dr. Asad misbehaved and hurled abuses at them in front of the extended family. Thus, the victim requested the police to provide her with security as this has put her life at risk.

    The Current has confirmed with ASI Adil Kamran of the police station where the FIR was registered yet no action has taken place till the time the story is being published.

    Indian politician Prajwal Revanna accused of assaulting 400 women, escapes to Germany

    An Indian politician, who sexually assaulted 400 women and made videos of them, has escaped to Germany. He’s accused of exploiting and making videos of women over many years.

    Parjwal Revana is a member of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s coalition party and the grandson of former Indian Prime Minister HD Devarajegowda, according to Indian media.

    According to media reports, Parjwal allegedly filmed 2,800 videos, of 400 women being raped, 2,000 USB sticks of rape videos were found in parks, buses and trains across the state of Karnataka and the rape videos were leaked by the former driver of Prajwal Revanna. These videos were used by the member of the parliament to blackmail women and gain sexual favours from them.

    While Prajwal has escaped, his father has been arrested on the charge of sexual violence against a maid. The girl who worked at Parjwal’s house complained to the police about the rape and she also accused Prajwal’s father of sexual assault.

    A former Bangalore councilor has also accused Prajwal of raping her several times.

    Indian politician and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that this is not a sex scandal but a serious case of mass rape.

    Modi has campaigned for Prajwal in the elections but in his statement has said, “It is a law and order issue. If such an incident took place in Bengal, then the Bengal government of would be responsible. If it happened in Gujarat, then the Gujarat government is responsible…if it happened in Karnataka, then the Karnataka government is responsible to take action.”

    Karachi gangster, US spy Kamran Faridi, freed from American jail on condition of deportation

    Kam­ran Faridi, a former gangster from Karachi, later serving as a high-profile agent of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), has been released after serving nearly four years of his seven-year sentence in a Florida prison.

    Faridi was sentenced to 84 months of imprisonment on his convictions for “transmitting threats in interstate commerce, threatening to assault a federal officer, and obstruction of justice,” on December 9, 2022.

    On March 18, 2024, a New York federal judge, reduced the sentence of Kamran Faridi to 72 months.

    Faridi was recently released on some conditions which most prominently include surrendering his US citizenship and agreeing to leave the United States permanently before August.

    Faridi, now 60, grew up in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Karachi. He was affiliated with the Peoples Students Federation (PSF), and was a close associate of PSF leader Najeeb Ahmed, who was assassinated in 1990.

    His family sent him to Sweden after he was found involved in several violent acts.

    Faridi migrated to the US in 1991, and within four years, he purchased a gas station in Atlanta, Georgia. There he met some FBI agents who were impressed with his proficiency in Urdu, Pun­jabi, Hindi, and Spanish. In 1996, they formally recruited him as a full-time informant and agent, according to Dawn.

    Faridi’s journey from a street hustler to FBI agent came to light when he played a pivotal role in the arrest of a Karachi businessman Jabir Motiwala in London in 2018. He orchestrated a plot, posed as a Russian mafia operative, to trap Motiwala in illegal activities. However, a rift developed between Faridi and his FBI handlers when he threatened to expose their manipulation of evidence against Motiwala. This led to the end of his career and he was arrested by Scotland Yard shortly afterwards.

    A 9-year-old domestic worker has died of burns in Lahore’s Millat Park area, reported Geo News.

    As soon as the incident was reported, police arrested the head of the house where the child worked and registered a case.

    The police said that the actual facts of the death will be revealed after the autopsy. The suspect has said that the girl was burnt when a gas cylinder exploded in the kitchen.

    22-year-old fakes his own kidnapping in Muzaffargarh

    A 22-year-old man staged his own kidnapping to trick his father into giving him two million rupees, reports Dawn News.

    Two days ago, Muhammed Ahmad, son of Mushtaq Mahra, went missing from Rohillanwali, 25 km from Muzaffargarh city. His father approached police by calling 15, complaining about his son being abducted by Katcha gangs of Sindh.

    Rohillanwali police registered a case. A day later, Mushtaq received a call from his son who told his father that he had been kidnapped by the Katcha area gangs of Sindh who demanded two million rupees as ransom for his release. He told his father that the kidnappers would kill him if they did not get the money.

    Police took action, reaching the Katcha area of Ranipur in Sindh, and located Ahmad by using modern technology and recovered him.

    The SHO said that Ahmad had faked his kidnapping and his ‘kidnapper’ kept calling his parents, demanding the ransom amount.

    During the investigation, police came to know that Ahmad wanted to marry a girl of his choice while his parents opposed it. He made a plan with his friend to get a money from his father and contract a love marriage. Police arrested Ahmad and his accomplice who was with him in Ranipur.
