‘My daughter is on the spectrum’: Mehreen Raheel opens up on motherhood’s challenges

In a world where balancing career and family can be tough, actress Mehreen Raheel has opened up about how she manages the challenges of motherhood while staying focused on career goals.

Appearing as a guest on Ahmad Ali Butt’s podcast, she shared her personal journey and insights into navigating both roles.

“Motherhood is a very powerful tool. Allah has given it to every woman. Yes, and it happens that some mothers need more time, especially mothers with children who are differently-abled. My daughter is on the spectrum,” she said, adding that she didn’t feel comfortable leaving her with an attendant.

“So, when I felt that she had become independent… she could do things on her own, it was when I decided to step back in the game and carry on from not where I left but somewhere else.”

The Zindagi Gulzar Hai actress went to explain how her priorities have shifted.

“I started working really early in life. I was about 12 and I had seen so much. So there came a point when I decided that I wanted to enjoy my children. Being a mother was the most wonderful thing that could have ever happened to me… so I didn’t want to fast-forward it. I wanted to take it slow… enjoy each moment. And so, I raised my children… took care of them… and I am very, very attached to them,” Mehreen said.

On the topic of politics, Mehreen emphasized the global impact of current events.

“We are being affected… the whole world is being affected with the current situation of the global verse. If I say that something isn’t affecting us, I would be foolish. We need help, and we need to respect ourselves. This is my stance,” she said.

The Dastaan actress also expressed concerns about Pakistan’s education system, highlighting how it had turned into a “money-making industry”.

“Education in Pakistan has become a money-making factory. Everybody is out there just to make money. It has affected our upcoming generations because everybody is too busy to pay attention to what’s going on,” she said

Mehreen also said, “Another issue is for mothers. They have to constantly be helicopter parents because if they don’t keep track of their kids’ grades and education, nobody else cares. I’ve seen that these group systems create a lot of fear.”

Speaking about the trend of social media best friends forever (BFF), Jaan – e Jahan actress emphasized, “They’re mostly just for show. Real friendship is something very deep, and not everyone you work with or post pictures with is truly a friend. Most people are just colleagues or acquaintances. When it comes to her professional life, the Yaqeen Ka Safar actress stays focused on her work.

“When it comes to navigating projects or scripts, I just focus on doing my part for those 12 hours on set. Thankfully, we now have writers, directors, and producers who are willing to listen. If there’s something in a script that doesn’t align with what I want to portray, we discuss it and usually find a middle ground,” Maryiam Nafees explained.

Earlier, actress Maryiam Nafees was invited to a podcast where the host asked Maryam, “If a girl follows you, what advice would you give these girls for a good marital relationship?”

She explained that she had to leave Chennai due to health problems. “I came to Mumbai for my treatment, and this was not possible in Chennai with AR’s busy schedule. I did not want to bother anyone, neither my children nor him.”

She further praised AR Rahman: “He is a wonderful person. And I only request that he be left as he is. I trust and love him more than my own life, and he loves me as much. Therefore, I request you all to stop all false allegations against him, leave us alone, and let him rest in peace. Right now, we have not officially announced anything.”

  • Maham Aamir applauds Hareem Farooq’s bold stance on body positivity

Maham Aamir applauds Hareem Farooq’s bold stance on body positivity

Actor Maham Aamir has praised Hareem Farooq for promoting body positivity through her character Masooma in the TV series Bismil.

In a recent interview, Hareem Farooq shared that she chose not to lose weight through crash diets for her role in ‘Bismil’ because it was affecting her mental health during a tough period in her life. Maham Aamir, wife of actor-host Faizan Sheikh, took to Instagram to applaud Hareem for her honesty about societal pressures.

“Thank you for saying this, Hareem Farooq,” Aamir wrote in response to Hareem’s viral confession.

“Constant pressure to look a certain way isn’t easy for a lot of women in our society,” she added.

“Comments that women face in our everyday life… These are not nice, and trust me, nobody wants to hear how fat/skinny/chubby or different a woman looks.”

“They know what they are going through, please STOP telling them,” Aamir urged, ending with a folded hands emoji.

Earlier, actress and producer Hareem Farooq’s journey in ‘Bismil’ revealed her character’s complexities and her battle with psoriasis.

In a recent interview with BBC Urdu, she discussed her role in the drama.

“I developed a skin condition called psoriasis during the shoot, which caused red spots to appear on my face and other parts of my body. The scars on my face may not look appealing to everyone, but they will encourage others who suffer from the same condition,” she said.

Psoriasis is a condition where the skin cells grow too quickly, causing red, scaly patches on the skin. When asked about her physical transformation, the ’22 Qadam’ actress shared that she initially considered losing weight before shooting ‘Bismil’.

“Before shooting started, I was going through a difficult phase in my life, which caused me to gain weight. I thought about losing it but eventually gave up. I had the option to delay the shoot by months, but I chose not to. I decided to shoot with the weight I had,” Hareem Farooq stated.

When asked about her work in the industry, Hareem explained, “Pakistan doesn’t have a film industry, so the same actors work in both films and dramas. All the other Pakistani actors, including me, work in films out of passion. If the country had a film industry, we wouldn’t have to work in dramas.”

Earlier, in a recent interview with Something Haute hosted by Hassan Choudhary, Hareem Farooq talked about her role in ‘Bismil’.

Hareem Farooq said, “When I first discussed the role of Masooma in ‘Bismil’, my primary focus was to align it with the director’s vision. I always asked the director [Aehsun Talish], ‘How do you see this character?’ I wanted to ensure we were on the same page.”

“The director described Masooma as someone who acts out of innocence, not malice. This resonated with me because I believe people are rarely inherently evil. Their experiences shape their actions. Masooma’s impulsive decisions reflect innocence… where she doesn’t consider long-term consequences… a characteristic I find relatable in real life,” the ‘Bismil’ actress explained.

Talking about Masooma’s intentions, Hareem shared, “I wouldn’t call her a gold digger because it wasn’t just about money. She was also running after security, wanting power, wanting change in her life. She wanted that lifestyle for herself. It’s a very selfish manner, but she cared about securing her future. Once she has something in her grasp, she won’t let go. I think Masooma’s relationship with TT [Nauman Ijaz] is more than just that of a gold digger… she is a selfish person, but not just running after money.”

‘Bismil’, featuring Hareem Farooq, Nauman Ijaz, Savera Nadeem, and Saad Qureshi, airs every Wednesday and Thursday on ARY Digital.

  • Nabeel Zafar slams award shows

    Nabeel Zafar slams award shows

Actor and producer Nabeel Zafar doesn’t hold back when it comes to award shows.

Appearing as a guest on Faysal Quraishi’s Pressure Buhat Hai podcast, Nabeel expressed frustration with biased award selection process and emphasized the need to honor those who truly deserve recognition.

“For me, awards hold no personal significance. Be it national or private, I view awards as a form of appreciation. However, if the appreciation is discredited toward the wrong individual, it can be upsetting for those who truly deserve it,” he remarked.

The Dhuwan actor raised concerns about the unfairness in the award system, saying, “In our system, there’s so much bias that even when someone receives an accolade like the Pride of Performance, they end up justifying themselves, saying they have no political affiliations or ulterior motives. It makes one think, I believe awards should exist but must go to the deserving ones. After all, real recognition comes directly from the audience, starting the moment you step outside.”

Nabeel shared a special moment that showed him what true recognition really is.

“Recently, I received a call about a child with Down syndrome who wanted to meet me. When we met, he enthusiastically discussed Bulbulay, asking repeatedly about the characters, including Mahmood Sahab and Khoobsurat. His father told me that the child believes the show’s world is real. Moments like these, for me, are the true awards,” the Bulbulay actor shared.

Nabeel looked back at the early days of Bulbulay and shared the challenges they faced in casting Ayesha Omar.

“Casting Ayesha Omar was a challenge. She was transitioning from being a VJ, and many actors hesitated to take on comedy due to its delicate nature—too much, and it seems overdone; too little, and it falls flat. Despite initial skepticism, Ayesha joined, though she often faced criticism from her family about the show’s ‘nonsensical comedy.’ But, as I once assured her, Bulbulay would eventually define her identity,” the Qissa Saat Raaton Ka actor said.

Earlier, Nabeel Zafar appeared as a guest on FHM podcast hosted by Adnan Faisal and shared an exciting story about his on-screen mother and fellow colleague Hina Dilpazeer, who plays the character of Momo in the show.

“When I called Hina, we had previously worked together on the telefilm ‘Burns Road Ki Nilofar,’ which was very successful. In that project, we had scenes together and it was a very good telefilm. People knew ‘Burns Road Ki Nilofar’, so I called her and said, ‘Look, you might be two or four years younger than me, but the role is of a mother.’ To which she said, ‘No, no, no, I will do it’.”

  • Sidhu’s wife served 850 crore notice over cancer cure claim

Sidhu’s wife served 850 crore notice over cancer cure claim

Former cricketer and politician Navjot Singh Sidhu’s wife Navjot Kaur is facing serious legal trouble after her husband claimed she cured her stage four cancer using diet alone.

The Chhatisgarh Civil Society sent the legal notice demanding a staggering INR 850 crore, accusing the couple of making misleading health claims.

The controversy began when Sidhu said during a press conference on November 23 that his wife, once given only a five percent chance of survival by doctors, became cancer-free in just 40 days by switching to a strict, specialized diet. Sidhu also claimed that he cured his own fatty liver disease following the same nutritional regimen.

According to the legal notice, Sidhu’s claims could potentially mislead cancer patients into abandoning conventional treatments, risking their lives in the process. The notice demands that the couple provide scientific proof to back their extraordinary health claims or face the ₹850 crore penalty for endangering public health.

The notice further warned that spreading such as “false information” could create a negative perception of allopathic treatments, which are widely accepted as standard care for cancer.

The civil society group has given Sidhu’s wife seven days to respond to the accusations or face legal consequences.

Earlier, on 22 November 2024, in a press conference, Sidhu shared his belief that a combination of diet and lifestyle changes played a crucial role in his wife, Navjot Kaur Sidhu’s recovery.

His wife was diagnosed with stage-4 cancer, which had metastasized to the skin. He credited her recovery to a special regimen that involved cutting out sugar, rice, flour, and tea while incorporating various herbs and natural remedies.

“I did not make any arrangements on my side. After researching Ayurveda, American doctors, and research in India, I read for 10 hours and came to the common denominator: cut sugar,” he revealed.

Sidhu explained the simple routine he followed, which he believes helped his wife recover.

“The first thing she used to have in the morning was lemon water with raw turmeric, garlic, and an apple. Half an hour later, she had neem leaves. This costs no money. Seriously, I want to tell everyone that this worked for her in 40 days, even at stage four cancer,” he detailed.

Proudly sharing the outcome of his wife’s treatment, he said, “Her doctors were shocked when she underwent an operation because the cancer cells were gone. After 45 to 50 days post-operation, there were no cancer cells left.”

Sidhu also claimed that he achieved this result despite being in the later stages of cancer, attributing his success to the natural and Ayurvedic treatments he followed.

Zainab Raza addresses claims of relation to Pervez Musharraf

Actress and model Zainab Raza has addressed rumours of her relation to former military ruler Pervez Musharraf, clarifying that the ex-president was not her grandfather.

During her appearance on Nida Yasir’s morning show, she openly talked about a number of things.

Zainab said that whenever she shared pictures of her parents on social media, people commented that they were the late Pervez Musharraf’s daughter and son-in-law. She, however, rubbished the claims and explained that her mother was not the former president’s daughter.

“Pervez Musharraf is not my maternal grandfather, and people should stop spreading false information about me.”

The Bharam actress shared that she was born in Dubai, and received early education there.

“I am the first person in my family to choose showbiz. I didn’t initially plan on pursuing a career in entertainment or modelling,” Zainab said.

“99% of the information about me on the internet, including Google, is incorrect. There are a lot of rumours about me,” she complained, admitting that she often put in her name on the search engine.

“I didn’t come from America, and I am not 23 years old. I am 26. Most of the information about me is entirely incorrect,” the Tamasha contestant said.

Zainab also expressed frustration that her best friend Ahmed Memon was often labelled as her boyfriend on YouTube and other websites, whereas she only considered him a good friend and brother.

Earlier, ‘Tamasha Ghar’ contestant and model Zainab Raza gave an interview to Irfanistan where she addressed the consistent online backlash to her choice of outfits, and shut down her haters by reminding them that what she chooses to wear is her own choice.

“My life, my rules. I know what I have to wear at any place. I wouldn’t walk in Khadda Market wearing a skirt; I’d wear normal clothes. I know that it’s comfortable to wear what I want, so I do it.”

The model went on to criticise the hypocrisy of Pakistani men by pointing out how they will ogle and appreciate pictures of models Gigi and Bella Hadid, who are both Muslims, and have been spotted wearing revealing clothes, but will slut-shame Pakistani women endlessly if they do the same.

“Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid are both Muslims. The same men will like their pictures but since we’re Pakistani Muslims, they’ll insult and slut-shame us if we do the same.”
