  • ‘Check my father’s passport’; Bella Hadid fires back at Israeli Minister’s denial of Palestine

‘Check my father’s passport’; Bella Hadid fires back at Israeli Minister’s denial of Palestine

For almost two weeks now, Israel has surrounded al-Shifa hospital in Gaza, not allowing people to get in or out. More than 400 people, including patients, those who had to leave their homes because of the war, and hospital workers, have died. According to Al Jazeera, up until March 19, around 32,000 Palestinians have lost their lives and over 74,000 have been injured in Gaza genocide.

As people around the world get more upset about Israel’s harsh treatment of Palestine, many famous people and important figures are using their popularity to speak up about it. One of them is Bella Hadid, a supermodel who is Palestinian-American. She’s adding her voice to the many others who are criticizing Israel’s unfair apartheid system.

She shared a video clip of a speech by an Israeli minister named Orit Strook. In the video, which was originally in Hebrew, Strook said, “The Palestinian people do not exist. There is no such thing.”

Bella wrote a message on top of the video on her Instagram Story in reply to what the Israeli minister said. “Look at my father’s passport and the millions of people with Palestinian heritage in their blood and hearts.”

She continued, saying, “Think about the land that has been taken from Palestinians over generations, the lives lost, and families torn apart. All because some people decided one day it belonged only to them.” Bella ended her message with “Food for thought.”
In another post on Instagram, Bella shared a video from Al Jazeera. The video showed many people who were hurt in Syria after an Israeli air attack, according to the Syrian military. Bella wrote another message on top of the video, saying, “The killings just keep happening. One tragedy after another. All because of one powerful force.”

After Israel’s military action against Palestinians following a surprise attack by Hamas in southern Israel on October 7 last year, Bella spoke out a few weeks later. She shared a long message on Instagram, along with a TikTok video showing the increasing destruction in Gaza and the West Bank. Then she talked about her opinion on what was happening.

“Sorry for not speaking up earlier,” the model said. “I haven’t found the right words for these last two weeks. It’s been really tough and terrible. The world is paying attention to a problem that’s been hurting people for a long time. I have a lot to say, but for now, I’ll keep it short.”

Bella said that she’s been getting “daily” death threats recently. This happened after her and her family’s phone numbers were leaked because they have Palestinian heritage and they criticize Israel. People close to her family said that Bella’s dad, Mohamed Hadid, was thinking about asking the FBI to find out who’s making the threats. Sharing how these events made her family fear for their safety, the half-Palestinian celebrity asserted that she “cannot be silenced any longer” and that “fear is not an option”.

  • Riyadh set for fourth Gulf Cinema festival

Riyadh set for fourth Gulf Cinema festival

Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, is getting ready to host the fourth Gulf Cinema Festival (GCF) from April 14 to 18. The festival is organized by the Film Commission with support from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and is backed by Saudi Minister of Culture Prince Bader bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al-Saud. The goal of the festival is to strengthen relationships among GCC countries and promote the growing Gulf cinema industry.

It will showcase 29 films from all GCC countries and honor experienced actors for their contributions to Gulf cinema, as state by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). Alongside film screenings, three training workshops and six educational seminars to encourage discussions about art and the social impact of movies will also take place. Saudi Arabia’s entertainment sector is growing rapidly, reflecting the country’s efforts to diversify its economy and attract visitors from around the world.

The decision to lift the cinema ban in 2017, part of the Vision 2030 reform agenda led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has played a significant role in this growth. Since then, the Saudi cinema industry has expanded, with 627 screens in 69 theaters catering to a population of 32.2 million people.

  • Which actors were considered for lead roles in ‘Ishq Murshid’?

Which actors were considered for lead roles in ‘Ishq Murshid’?

Hum TV’s drama serial ‘Ishq Murshid’ has become immensely popular with its unique storyline and excellent casting. Fans are loving the chemistry between Durefishan Saleem and Bilal Abbas. Farooq Rind directs the drama, which is written by Abdul Khaliq Khan.

The writer recently appeared on Something Haute’s show Haute Talk, hosted by Hassan Choudhary where he revealed the names of male actors he was considering for Shahmeer’s character.

“I had several names in mind because we aimed to cast popular actors for the 8:00 pm slot to attract fans’ attention. We considered Ahad Raza Mir, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Wahaj Ali, and Bilal Abbas for the lead role. Ahad Raza Mir requested the complete script, which wasn’t feasible. Hamza Ali Abbasi was occupied with Jaan E Jahan, although I envisioned him as Fazal Baksh and politician Shahmeer. Wahaj Ali was already committed to Tere Bin, so we didn’t pursue him much, although we did approach him. All four were approached, but fortunately, Bilal Abbas had a better grasp of our script. He read the initial episodes and understood the character well, which greatly helped us.”

  • Fiza Ali becomes emotional talking about the loss of her mother

Fiza Ali becomes emotional talking about the loss of her mother

Fiza Ali is so composed while acting, singing and hosting that it becomes difficult to remember that she is just as vulnerable as anyone of us when it comes to grief and loss.

Fiza and Faraal appeared as guests on Wasi Shah’s show, where Fiza opened up about the losses she has experienced in life. Raised by a single parent, she saw her mother face numerous challenges to bring her up. The host asked what she misses most about her mom.

Fiza Ali said, “I miss my mother the most. When my mother cried, I felt like hitting myself. She used to tell me, ‘It’s just a small injury, don’t cry.’ But I can’t help but cry. The kind of crying I need to do is in front of my mother. I miss her so much that I wish she was standing in front of me, and before I could express love or affection, I would cry for my mother first. I miss her a lot. What I couldn’t do, I need to do now by shedding tears over my mother’s complaints. That’s when I find comfort, by feeling close to my mother and crying.”
