Humayun Saeed reveals Shah Rukh Khan once told him Pakistani films should release in India

Humayun Saeed spoke with Indian publication Bollywood Hungama where he talked about his hit drama ‘Mere Pass Tum Ho’ which is set to release on Zindagi across India. The actor also opened up about his memory of working next to Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan back in 2005, when the two performed together for the Zee Cine Awards.

Saeed revealed that the Bollywood Badshah was incredibly sweet, treating the actor with a lot of respect because Humayun was not sure about how the performance should take place. Khan also told Humayun that he felt Pakistani dramas should be released in India:

“There was a lot of excitement when I met Shah Rukh. He was very sweet to me. We were in his room and he made me sit with him and discussed Indian and Pakistan films with me. That time there was a Mehreen Jabbar and a Shaan film in the theatres and SRK was talking about them. He said that Pakistani films should be released in India and vice versa. He made me comfortable. Since I had just come the previous day to the sets, I did not know exactly what to do. Shah Rukh said ‘main sambhal lunga.’ The overall moment was very special.”

Actor Adnan Siddiqui also gave an interview to Indian Express where he said that there should be no boundaries when it comes to art, and also felt that Pakistani audiences were much more tolerant compared to Indian ones.

“Art has no boundaries, but artistes have a certain boundary, which shouldn’t be there. There should be healthy cultural exchange. I believe that the kind of tolerance–pardon me for being so blunt–but our tolerance, in comparison to Indian audience is much higher. We accept Indian artistes, Indian cricketers, we accept everything good about India. But when this thing goes across the border, it becomes very political. I don’t know why.”

  • Lizzo sued after three former dancers accuse her of sexual harassment, unprofessional behavior

Lizzo sued after three former dancers accuse her of sexual harassment, unprofessional behavior

Grammy award winning singer Lizzo was sued by former dancers in her troupe for sexual harassment, hostile work environment and body shaming.

In a lawsuit filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court, three former dancers accused Lizzo, and the captain of her dance team Shirlene Quigley, for religious harassment, body shaming. In one of the incidents cited in the suit, after a performance at the South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival, dancer Arianna Davis was told that she seemed ‘less committed’ to her role- a comment which thinly suggested she needed to lose weight.

Another dancer was scolded after the singer called to attention their weight gain, and later fired the same dancer after she had recorded a meeting because of a health condition.

“The stunning nature of how Lizzo and her management team treated their performers seems to go against everything Lizzo stands for publicly, while privately she weight-shames her dancers and demeans them in ways that are not only illegal but absolutely demoralizing,” Zambrano said in a statement.

Lizzo has been open about embracing body diversity, releasing several songs like ‘Good as hell’ and ‘Juice’, which encouraged women to love their curves as they are.

The suit described how the dancers were put in uncomfortable positions including an Amsterdam trip to a strip club, where Lizzo allegedly pressurised the cast members to touch the nude performers, including Ms. Davis despite her reluctance. When Davis obliged and briefly touched the performer, the crowd began laughing. Afterwards, Lizzo pushed a member of the security staff on the stage and began yelling ‘take it off!’, according to the staff present.

“Plaintiffs were aghast with how little regard Lizzo showed for the bodily autonomy of her employees and those around her, especially in the presence of many people whom she employed,” the suit detailed.

A week later, after a performance in Paris, the suit reveals the dancers were invited by Lizzo to a club, but they were shocked to discover that it was actually a nude cabaret bar.

The suit said the plaintiffs were “shocked that Lizzo would conceal the nature of the event from them, robbing them of the choice not to participate.”

The suit also described the instances of racial and religious harassment dancers had faced, who were the sole women of color present in the group. On one instance, a former dancer requested 50% compensation for her downtime, and the accountant began scolding her for being “unacceptable and disrespectful” and instead offered 25%.

“Only the dance cast — comprised of full-figured women of color — were ever spoken to in this manner,” the claim stated.

Dancers were also subjected to pressure to convert to Christianity by the dance captain, Quigley, who preached her Christian beliefs and “took every opportunity to proselytize to any and all in her presence regardless of protestations.” Several cast members asked her to stop pressurising the dancer Rodriguez about her faith, whom Quigley described as a ‘non-believer’, the accused had responded:

“No job and no one will stop me from talking about the Lord.”

Lizzo has not responded to the lawsuit, but several other public figures since then have come forward with accusations of rude behavior and unprofessionalism from the pop singer. Filmmaker Sophia Nahli Allison shared that she dropped out as director for Lizzo’s documentary in 2019, citing rudeness from the ‘Cuz I Love You’ singer.

Lizzo’s former creative director, along with another former dancer, had sent their support to the dancers who had filed the lawsuit against the ‘Juice’ singer.

“I’m looking to do two projects year on year from here on and I’m going to look for scripts that are hugely entertaining & engaging. I’m being drawn to subjects that appeal to a wider audience segment so that we can enjoy movies as a family, as a community.”

Twitter rallies behind Cardi B after she throws mic at fan who splashed drink on her

This summer we have seen a trend of singers and musicians being assaulted while performing on stage including Bebe Rexha, Ava Max, Drake and Harry Styles. It’s clearly gross to witness public figures turned into fodder for jokes and harassment when they are entertaining us.

Cardi B became the latest target of the trend when during a performance at Las Vegas, a fan threw a drink on the singer. However, the rapper was quick to respond, throwing her much right back at the assaulter.

When the incident went viral on social media, fans were quick to defend the ‘WAP’ singer, calling out the people who refuse to recognise that performers are not spectacles to be made fun of, and no woman should be assaulted when they’re doing their job.

“Exactly it’s about time a performer retaliated to this ‘trend’”, a user wrote.

“I f****** dare you. Dare you to throw something at me and I’ll f*****g kill you.”

  • Jewish group demands Prime remove ‘Bawaal’ over insensitive portrayal of Holocaust

Jewish group demands Prime remove ‘Bawaal’ over insensitive portrayal of Holocaust

The Bollywood film ‘Bawal’ has been slammed on social media for using the trauma of the Holocaust ss the backdrop of a domestic spat between a couple. Starring Jhanwi Kapoor and Varun Dhavan, the film revolves around a couple who travel around Europe to visit places central to World War II.

The film had been met with intense scrutiny, with many calling out the film makers because of several dialogues. “Every couple goes through their Auschwitz” and “We all too are a little like Hitler, aren’t we? We aren’t satisfied with what we have. We want what others have,” are two of the objectionable lines in the film.

READ MORE: Bawaal’s cringey comparison of Holocaust with relationships will give you second-hand embarrassment

The Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC), which preserves the history of the victims of the Holocaust, has now issued a public statement where they called for the streaming giant Amazon Prime to remove the film from its service for “outlandish abuse of the Nazi Holocaust as a plot device”.

“Auschwitz is not a metaphor. It is the quintessential example of Man’s capacity for Evil,” spoke SWC Associate Dean and Director of Global Social Action, Rabbi Abraham Cooper.

By having the protagonist in this movie declare that ‘Every relationship goes through their Auschwitz,’ Nitesh Tiwari, trivializes and demeans the memory of 6 million murdered Jews and millions of others who suffered at the hands of Hitler’s genocidal regime.

If the filmmaker’s goal was to gain PR for their movie by reportedly filming a fantasy sequence at the Nazi death camp, he has succeeded. Amazon Prime should stop monetizing Bawaal by immediately removing this banal trivialization of the suffering and systematic murder of millions of victims of the Nazi Holocaust,” Rabbi Cooper concluded.

  • Aditya Roy Kapur says nepotism has nothing to do with his success

Aditya Roy Kapur says nepotism has nothing to do with his success

Bollywood actor Aditya Roy Kapur has made a string of successful movies like ‘Aashiqui 2’ and ‘Ye Jawaani Hai Deewani’, but he has been met with plenty of criticism that his career has a lot to do with nepotism.

The actor, who’s eldest brother Siddharth is the CEO of UTV Motion Pictures and other brother Kunaal is an actor, comes from a family of Bollywood royalty, dating back to his grandfather who was a film producer in the 1940s.

Speaking to Filmfare to finally address the issue, ‘The Night Manager’ actor said his career wasn’t influenced by his brothers, who did not help him in getting movies as he began his acting journey.

“I think people know that I have kind of made my way into the industry. I started with supporting roles in films my brothers weren’t involved with.”

Kapur, who has gone public with his relationship with Ananya Panday, also pointed out that his career progress has been incredibly public, with people noticing how slowly he went from supporting roles to getting leading roles in films:

“My journey has been a public one. People saw my career develop slowly. By the time I did my first leading role, I had already done three supporting parts. So I think that journey is clear for people to see.”

The issue of nepotism within the Bollywood industry has been a much discussed topic, with several actors like Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor being subjected to intense scrutiny for the arguments they made in favor of nepotism.

Johar, who had been publicly called ‘the flag bearer of nepotism’ by Kangana Ranaut on ‘Koffee With Karan’ said in an interview with Man’s World India:

“I never said I was running an NGO. I’m running a bona fide commercial entity. I’m very excited to introduce new talents. Some will be from the fraternity, some will not. I’m done with being apologetic about it”

  • The ONE thing Kajol dislikes about Shah Rukh Khan

Bollywood actors Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan are the filmi duo that keep entertaining our millenial hearts, whether on film or as hilarious buddies. Now speaking to Mashable India, Kajol reflected on her long friendship with the Bollywood actor, revealing that there is after all one thing she doesn’t like about the actor: his ability to memorise the entire script, even everyone else’s lines on set!

“What I don’t like and I also find is most endearing about him, is the fact that when he comes on the set, he knows all the dialogues of everybody on the set,” said the ‘Baazigar’ actress.

“It doesn’t matter if we are doing a three-page scene, he would have memorized all the three pages. He knows my dialogues, his dialogues, and third person’s dialogues as well.

Kajol went on to gush about her bond with the ‘Pathaan’ superstar whom she can call any time of the day, stating that she doesn’t text him everyday or Khan would have stabbed her.

“I know for a fact that if I ever had to call him up at 3 o’clock in the morning, he would pick up my phone and he knows vice versa..(but) No, I do not message him every day ‘Good morning there’ and send him a flower photograph. I think he’d stab me with a nice fork if I ever tried it.” the ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum’ actress joked.

  • Kevin Spacey cleared of sexual abuse charges

Kevin Spacey cleared of sexual abuse charges

Oscar winner Kevin Spacey has been cleared of nine charges of sexual assault, indecent assault and forcing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity, after a jury found him not guilt in a U.K trial. The actor was on trial after four men accused him of violating boundaries and sexual assault. The first complainant recalled being groped by the ‘House Of Cards’ actor at Old Vic Theatre where he was creative director. Spacey denied the almost-accident and provided evidence that contradicted the time and place the victim had quoted.

The second survivor accused Spacey of making numerous sexually aggressive comments at a charity event in 2005, before pinning him against the wall. Kevin had denied ever meeting the man at the event.

The third survivor accused Kevin Spacey of raping him in 2008, when he ended up at the actor’s apartment in London where he fell asleep, and woke up to the actor giving him oral sex. Kevin denied these charges too and presented telephone records which contradicted the man’s accusation.

The fourth survivor accused Kevin of sexual assault by recalling meeting him at a party in Gloucestershire. Spacey’s defense team called the encounter a “drunken clumsy pass”, and said he had later apologised for his actions.

The judge has dismissed all of the charges.

In October 2022 the actor won a $40 million lawsuit brought in by actor Anthony Rapp, who had accused the Oscar winner of sexual battery, but a judge dismissed the complaint.
