  • ‘We are actors, not social activists,’ says Sohai Ali Abro

‘We are actors, not social activists,’ says Sohai Ali Abro

Nowadays, many celebrities seem to treat activism as a trend rather than a true commitment, but actress Sohai Ali Abro firmly believes in the important role actors play in society.

Recently, Sohai appeared as a guest on Gup Shab hosted by Vasay Chaundhry, where she talked about celebrity activism.

A fan from the audience asked, “What motivates you to bring change in our society?”

Sohai replied, “You may want to bring about a change in society, but sometimes the motivation is just not there. I believe in maintaining personal integrity in whatever you do, whether you’re an actor or not.”

While acknowledging that a social message can be important, she stressed that actors should not be viewed as activists.

“One thing I’ve realized is that sometimes we give actors too much credit and forget that we are not social activists; we are actors at the end of the day. We do try to bring a positive impact or highlight socially relevant issues through the stories we tell and the characters we play. But if I only look at it from that perspective, I may not be able to entertain. My job is entertainment, and if something good comes out of it along the way, then that’s great, but that is not my sole reason,” the Gentlemen actress added.

Sohai careful attitude shows that she wants to be real in a word where many celebrities jump on popular issues without really caring about them, “I’ve seen how celebrities jump on a bandwagon and talk about something they forget the next day. I am not for this activism that lasts only till an issue is trending, and therefore I am careful about what I say about any issue.”

Sohai last starred in drama serial Gentlemen written by controversial writer Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar and directed by Haissam Hussain.

  • ‘You can never have the perfect man,’ says Mathira

‘You can never have the perfect man,’ says Mathira

Television host Mathira, known for her being bold and vocal, recently appeared as a guest on the Rukhsat podcast, where she shared her thoughts on the wrongs in marriages today.

“First of all, we should know that there’s nothing called an ideal couple. I’ve learned this: you can never have the perfect man, and you can never have the perfect girl, but you can have a person that you feel safe with,” she said.

“True love is when you feel safe with someone when you can act like your six-year-old, and you can understand that sometimes, even at your worst and even at your best. We also need to understand that a relationship is not 50/50. When your partner is down, you need to do extra work. Sometimes you’ll have to be 70, you’ll have to take it. But then when things go balanced and when you’re down, they need to do the same for you,” she explained.

“We need to teach our kids one thing: when you get into something with the mental goal of perfection, stop trying to be perfect. You need to be transparent. Whoever you are, he/she accepts you with all your jadedness, with all your flaws, then you can elevate that person and be like, ‘You’ve seen all my flaws; now I will look past your flaws.’

“So it becomes an exchange. You both will be like, ‘I have this issue; I will try to work on it.’ This is what you call teamwork, balancing each other’s loopholes, like you’re there for each other”, she advised.

Mahira also pointed out a major misconception in society, saying, “We need to understand that sex is not everything, it’s just a small part of life, it’s not life, people can get used to a toxic relationship, and it’s like heroin. The biggest misconception in Pakistan is that women are more attracted to it.”

Television host and actress Nadia Khan is facing this dilemma and like most of us, she is leaning more towards the culinary delight.

During her appearance as a guest on Good Morning Show, Nadia Khan talked about her obsession with chocolate.

The host asked, “A common woman is watching, sitting at home, and she doesn’t have much exposure. MashaAllah, your exposure has been from 13 to 23 years. Now, what will you tell her if she starts making small investments?”

Nadia Khan said, “I think our girls are becoming very smart, so smart that imagine, a chocolate was launched in Dubai. It’s called Fix Chocolate, and it’s gone so viral and famous. It’s the one with almonds inside and comes in different flavors. My favorite is Kunafa and Pish, It’s such a delicious treat, only available in Dubai.”

“The story began with this woman who started making chocolate at home, she was good at it, but she thought, ‘everyone is making chocolate, what she can do differently’, so she added dessert inside the chocolate. There’s this tiny chocolate, and inside, there’s Kunafa dessert. You must have seen it; it’s gone viral. The chocolate expires in three days, so you have to keep it in the fridge and eat it within three days,” the Zun Mureed added.

“Look at our women, they’re so smart, they’re dealing with these things like pros, I don’t know where they’re getting these connections from, but every few weeks, consignments are arriving at the airport. Women are picking up these chocolates for 5000 and selling them for 8000. I buy them, and they’re being sold in black, I mean, I’ve already ordered four this month. All my clothing budget is going into chocolate.”

  • Why Mahira Khan was picked over Kareena, Deepika, and Katrina for Raees

Why Mahira Khan was picked over Kareena, Deepika, and Katrina for Raees

Indian film director Rahul Dholaika considered top Bollywood actresses like Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, and Kaitrina for his film Raees, but none were the right fit. Instead, actress Mahira Khan caught his attention and was chosen to play Aasiya opposite Shahrukh Khan.

During his appearance as a guest on Mashable India, director Rahul Dholaika explained why he picked Mahira Khan for his film Raees.

“We wanted an 80s Muslim girl. Number one criteria is Hindi, secondly, her Urdu should have a little twang, if she has it, is even better. The other is she has to be innocent. Okay, now you have Shahrukh, who is 50, so you need someone whose screen age is 30-something or 35. You need somebody who is at least 30 plus or around 30 as an actress, now, an actress around 30 who is innocent. There are very few of them. There was Deepika, there was Kareena, and there was Anushka. So, there were these three or four heroines that were there.”

As the casting process went on, it became clear that finding an actress who fit all the requirements for Aasiya was not easy, Dholaika explained, saying, “So now, if you have these three or four heroines, then either they are too expensive, or the role is too small for them. So we went through that gamut, and we said, ‘Yeah, Sonam, Katrina,’ you know, went through the whole list of it. And then at the end of it all, we decided this is not working for us. If it’s working for Farhan, it’s not working for Shahrukh, it’s not working for Shahrukh and Farhan, not working for me. Now, you don’t want him to romance Alia, you know, or something like that. “

“I think Gauri’s mom had seen Mahira, and my mom had seen Mahira independently. I told the casting director, ‘Do you know her? What do you think of her?’ So, he said, ‘She’s here in BB Fashion.’ That’s how it happened,” the Raees director added.

Raees was released in 2017, with Shahrukh Khan, Mahira Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pawan Singh, Mohd Zeeshan Ayub, and Raj Arjun starring in the film.

  • Adnan Siddiqui calls out Bollywood’s ‘Ankhiyaan De Kol’ version: urges respect for Reshma Jee

Adnan Siddiqui calls out Bollywood’s ‘Ankhiyaan De Kol’ version: urges respect for Reshma Jee

Bollywood has once again been accused of copying a classic Pakistani song, and this time, Kriti Sanon is at the centre of the debate. The new song, Akhiyaan Nu Rehn De, from her latest film, ‘Do Patti’, is being compared to the iconic ‘Akhiyaan De Kol’, originally sung by the late Reshma.

Adnan Siddiqui expressed his utter disappointment over the newly-released remix version of the all-time classic song.

Siddiqui stated that this rendition of a classic that has been endeared for decades is being disrespected, adding that he wanted his opinion to be expressed on social media.

“Imitation may be flattering, but not when it’s at the expense of tearing apart a classic by a legend,” he said. “Show some respect to Reshma Jee and the legacy she left behind. That’s what her music commands, not to be reduced to just some sordid ripoff.”

The lyrics of the remake are written by Kausar Munir, and the song is sung by Shilpa Rao.

However, many fans feel that the magic of Reshma’s original has been lost.

Reshma has sung iconic songs such as Laal Meri, Hai O Rabba Nahion Lagda Dil Mera, and Lambi Judai. She died in November 2013 in Lahore after suffering from throat cancer for many years.

Kriti Sanon’s upcoming film, Do Patti, is directed by Shashanka Chaturvedi and written by Kanika Dhillon.

The film will be released on Netflix on October 25, 2024.

Do Patti’s cast includes Tanvi Azmi, Brijendra, Kala, Kajol, Kriti and Shaheer.

Here are some comments from fans who are not happy with this remake:
