    To maintain law and order on new year’s night and to guarantee the safety of lives and property, the Lahore Police has devised a comprehensive security strategy.

    Lahore’s Additional IG, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, said that more than 6,000 police officers and officials, including 6 SPs, 35 DSPs, 83 SHOs, 400 upper-level subordinates, members of the Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit, Elite Force, Anti-Rights Force, and lady police officers, would be stationed on streets, squares, and public areas.

    He declared that security would be strictly enforced. At all costs, hooliganism, aerial gunfire, fireworks, and one-wheeling would not be permitted.

    CCPO Lahore said that the respect of the citizens was above all and that anyone involved in aerial firing, mob violence, fireworks, or one-wheeling will face punishment.

    According to The News, teams from the Dolphins squad, PRU, Elite Force, and police stations, according to CCPO Lahore, will make sure that sensitive and major locations are continuously patrolled on New Year’s Eve. Additionally, security would be enhanced at the city’s entry and exit points. Police should be informed right away by those who see any suspicious people or activity.

    A professor from Kabul University tore up his diploma during a live news interview, protesting against the ban on women’s education placed by the Taliban administration.
    “From today I don’t need these diplomas anymore because this country is no place for getting education. If my sister & my mother can’t study, then I DON’T accept this education,” the emotional Professor stated.

    The act of revolt comes after the Taliban placed a ban on female education across the country. The Acting Higher Education Minister Neda Mohammad Nadeem said the ban was a result of women wearing inappropriate clothes and interacting with men.
    “They didn’t observe Hijab; they were coming with the clothes that most women wear to a wedding,” he said.

    The controversial decision has led to a rise of protests all over the country, with video clips emerging on social media, showing men choosing to walk out of university in protest against the ban.

    Heavy fog in cities across Punjab including Lahore, Faisalabad and Sialkot has disrupted air and road travel. According to Pakistan International Airways (PIA), four international flights had to be diverted to Islamabad because of foggy weather.
    According to a representative from Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and Pakistan International Airways (PIA) four flights including PK-248 from Dammam to Lahore, PK-224 from Dubai to Faisalabad, PK-716 from Madina to Lahore via Karachi and PK-244 from Dammam to Sialkot had to be shifted to Islamabad after intense fog reduced visibility. The representative further explained that visibility at Multan Airport was poor till 2 pm, while at Lahore’s Alama Iqbal Airport fog had not reduced until 4 pm.
    The representative advised travelers to double check with their airlines for flight updates by either visiting the website www.caapakistan.com.pk or call the numbers 114, 0800 00114 and 111 222 114.

    Reports are also stating that railway networks are facing difficulties in Punjab as intense fog reduces visibility. A representative from Pakistan Railways Administration said that trains were traveling at low speed to take safety measures and prevent accidents.
    Due to these precautions, trains are late by six or seven hours to arrive at their destination. The Karakoram Express was late by up to six hours, while Karachi, Alama Iqbal and Khyber Mail Express arrived late at their destination by five hours

    Two days ago, a tweet criticizing a photographer for photographing a wedding shoot on the grounds of King Edward Medical College went viral on the bird app. The tweep shared a clip of Instagram photographer @naumanclicks showing the couple walking around campus. He shared in a post that students weren’t allowed to roam around grounds or visit the library after 5 pm, terming it unfair that these liberites are granted to outsiders

    In the next tweet, the user continued to criticize the wedding industry for reducing the value and sanctity of historical buildings, as well as the contributions to medical history that colleges like King Edward and Punjab University had provided to Pakistan.

    The post ended with the user sharing an update of a letter that notified students about King Edward administration being aware of the video of the wedding photoshoot, stating that a committee would look into the incident.

    However, social media users were quick to jump in, defending the photographer and the married couple, by pointing out that the blame should entirely fall on the administration for permitting the photo shoot.

    Others had pointed out that university grounds were regularly used for filming movies or wedding photo shoots, and rather than criticizing the couple, the user should have expressed criticism towards the institution for barring students from going out after 5 pm.

    So I think that the lesson we can take from this is to live and let live? Let’s not be selfish and gate keep people from celebrating a happy moment in their lives.

    Indian call centre scammers looted $10 billion from Americans in 2021

    According to Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) data, US citizens lost more than $10 billion in 2022 as a result of phishing calls made by illegal Indian call centres.

    The Times Of India stated citing FBI data that the majority of the victims of these fraud calls from Indian phishing gangs were senior US nationals over the age of 60 who lost more than $3 billion.

    The FBI has now sent a permanent representative to the US embassy in New Delhi following many incidences that were reported in 2022. To bust these gangs that have threatened to make India the hub of such illegal call centres, the representative will work closely with the CBI, Interpol, and the Delhi Police.

    So far in 2022, Americans have lost a total of $10.2 billion to such hoax calls, a 47 per cent increase over the $6.9 billion lost in 2021.

    Suhel Daud, the FBI’s South Asia director, told the publication that “romance-related” scams totaled INR 8,000 crore (PKR 217.7 billion) in 2021 and INR 8,000 crore (PKR 217.7 billion) in the final 11 months of 2022. Losses from “tech support” fraud have topped $3 billion in the last two years, with $347 million in 2021 and $781 million in 2022 so far.

    “It may not be a national security concern yet, but the reputation (of a country) is involved, and we don’t want India to suffer on that count,” Daud told the publication.

    He also stated that the FBI received 850,000 complaints regarding cyber crimes in 2021 and over 780,000 lakh complaints so far in 2022. Investment-related cybercrime ($3 billion), corporate email compromise ($2.4 billion), personal data breach ($1.2 billion), romance ($1 billion), and tech support ($781 million) were among the concerns.

    Due to rising smog, the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday ordered the government to extend the winter break for all schools and colleges in the capital of Punjab by one week.

    The order was given by the high court as it heard a petition calling for action to reduce smog in the city. It stated that the government was in charge of implementing preventative measures after the smog.

    The Provincial Disaster Management Authority’s (PDMA) director general has also been called before the LHC for the next hearing.

    The change occurs while Lahore consistently ranks first among the top 10 most polluted cities in the world.

    All public and private schools in the province will be closed from December 24 to December 31 due to the earlier announcement made by the Punjab School Education Department. The reopening day for the schools was January 2, 2023. Now, on January 9, schools and universities will reopen.

    A bench in Mingora, consisting of Justice Mohammad Naeem Anwar and Justice Mohammad Ijaz Khan, accepted an appeal filed by the convict, Dawlat Khan, a resident of Buner district. His case was dismissed on the basis of compromise.
    A gender-based violence court in Buner had convicted the man on May 17, 2022, sentencing him to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs100,000 in default of which he had to undergo six months more imprisonment.

    The victim’s mother filed a report, and on August 24, 2020, the Doggar police station launched a case against him under section 376 (rape) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

    After the lady gave birth to a son and a DNA paternity test established that the guy was the boy’s biological father, the man was found guilty by the trial court.

    The case against him was registered under section 376 (rape) of the Pakistan Penal Code on August 24, 2020, in Doggar police station on the complaint of the victim’s mother.
