    ‘Chai Wala’ now owns a tea cafe in Islamabad

    Arshad Khan, who became popular as the ‘Chai wala’ a few years ago has now opened up his own cafe in Islamabad.

    In an interview with Urdu News, Arshad Khan shared he has now opened his own chai café and named it ‘Chai Wala’.

    “People suggested me to name the café after my own name, Arshad Khan,” said Khan. “But making chai is a part of my identity that I cannot let go of.”

    The café has lots of truck artwork with tables and chairs having a ‘desi’ touch to them.

    “There are at least 15 to 20 dishes apart from chai”, shared Arshad. “Running this cafe is the most important thing for me right now so I am giving this more time because it is attached to my name.”

    Talking about his showbiz career, Arshad said, “Two to four episodes of my TV show have been released. I will also give some time to that.”

    In the future, Arshad wants to make an institute where children whose parents cannot afford their education can study.

    Arshad Khan became an overnight sensation after a picture of him making chai went viral on social media back in 2016. Following that, he also did some modelling projects back then.

    Sham Idrees opens up about his ‘other daughter’

    Pakistani-Candian YouTuber Sham Idrees in a recent video introduced his daughter from his previous marriage.

    The vlogger made a video and revealed that back in 2010, before he started making vlogs, he was married for a short while.

    “I’m gonna take you back to 2010,” said the vlogger in the video. “I was 19 or 20 years of age – fairly young. I didn’t know what I was doing but I decided to get married. Of course, it didn’t work out. Within a few months, we decided to end it and go our separate ways. However, a few months after that, I found out I was having a baby. On September 10th, 2010 I had a baby girl,” he said.

    Explaining why he introduced her to his fans after so many years, he said, “When I started vlogging my daughter was six years old and I had to make a decision if I keep her on social media or take her completely off. Now we celebrated her 10th birthday. I know 10 is still fairly young but I gave her the option and asked her if she wants to be a part of this industry and she is very excited.”

    Dua Idrees has also made her own YouTube channel. She released a Vlog about her 10th birthday titled, Meet My Dad. We can also see her in Idrees’s vlogs with both Froggy and Sierra.

    Sham Idrees is a Youtuber with over 2 million subscribers. Sham got married to Saher popularly known as Froggy in 2019. The couple welcomed a baby girl, Sierra Idrees earlier this year.

    Islamabad’s education officers asked to visit seven schools daily to monitor SOPs

    With primary schools set to reopen today (Wednesday) in the twin cities in the third phase of educational institutions reopening after a long break due to coronavirus, the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has instructed all area education officers to visit at least seven schools daily and ensure that health guidelines and standard operating procedure (SOP) are being followed strictly.

    As per reports, a total of 193 FDE-run primary schools in Islamabad will reopen.

    FDE officials said that a team of FDE directors and officers from the Ministry of Federal Education and the capital administration will also visit schools. They added that teams from the Private Educational Institution Regulatory Authority (Peira) will also visit primary schools.

    Officials further said that imposing social distancing would be more challenging in primary schools compared to high schools, colleges or universities, particularly with students in nursery to third grade, which is why teachers will have to put an extra effort.

    Islamabad-based educational institutions have reported more than 30 cases of COVID-19 out of around 15,000 tests.

    Minister for Federal Education Shafqat Mehmood said that the positivity rate is 0.8pc in educational institutions across the country.

    At a press conference in Islamabad, he said that out of 171,436 tests carried out in educational institutions – not including primary schools – 1,284 have come back positive for the virus.

    He said school administrations, teachers and parents must be more attentive from Wednesday, when primary schools reopen, because young children cannot follow SOPs and practice social distancing on their own.

    Nutella has caused a storm this week after the brand’s US Twitter account incorrectly said the product was not halal.

    The claim was made after a Manchester-based Twitter user asked the company if the product is halal, to which Nutella responded, “No, they are not halal”.

    Muslim customers were not happy with the reply. Following the tweet, Muslims all over the world started questioning the brand where are the forbidden ingredients.

    The brand’s Twitter account later clarified its original post, telling users “All Nutella sold worldwide is suitable for Halal consumption”.

    The brand added, “We apologise for the mistake made in our earlier tweet.”

    Intl Equal Pay Day: Women earn 84% of what men earn

    International Equal Pay Day is being observed for the first time this September 18 under an initiative by the UN. According to the UN, the day aims to highlight the importance of achieving equal pay for work of equal value.

    While, a paycheck may bring a sense of relief or joy, it can also represent inequalities between men and women at the workplace.

    According to UN Women Pakistan, “Globally, the gender pay gap stands at 16% meaning women workers earn an average of 84 percent of what men earn. For women of colour, immigrant women, and women with children, the difference is even greater.”

    These differences in pay add up and have real, daily negative consequences for women and their families.

    Equal pay means that all workers have the right to receive equal payment for work of equal value. While the concept is straightforward, what equal pay actually entails and how it’s applied in practice has proven to be difficult.

    Work of equal value can mean a job that is similar, as well as a job that is not the same but is of equal value. This distinction is important because women’s and men’s work sometimes may involve different types of qualifications, skills, responsibilities, or working conditions, yet be of equal value, and, therefore, merit equal pay.

    Gender pay gap estimates can vary significantly across regions and even within countries. Higher-income countries tend to have lower levels of wage inequality compared to low and middle-income countries.

    Man finds monkey’s selfies after finding lost phone in jungle

    A Malaysian man found monkey selfies and videos on his lost phone a day after finding it in the jungle behind his house.

    Zackrydz Rodzi, a student in Batu Pahat, Malaysia, woke up to find his mobile phone missing.

    Speaking to the BBC, Rodzi said he located his phone the following day after hearing it ring in a jungle area behind his house.

    There were a series of blurred photos of the monkey, trees in the phone’s gallery. 

    The monkey also recorded a video and tried to eat the device.

    Rodzi said he failed to find any trace of his phone until Sunday afternoon when his father noticed a monkey outside their house. He dialed his son’s number from his phone and heard a distant ringing in the jungle behind their back garden. He then found the phone under a palm tree, covered in mud.

    The gallery had a few pictures of a monkey, peering down the lens with bright green foliage and birds in the background.

    But it remained unclear exactly how the mobile went missing.

    “Unlike some parts of the world where monkeys live in or near urban areas, there is no history of monkeys stealing things from houses in the local neighbourhood”, said the student. He suspects the monkey may have entered the house through his brother’s open bedroom window.

    TikTok star Adil Rajput’s wife Farah Rajput recently shared a video of herself crying and announcing the news of her husband’s death.

    “Adil is no longer with us,” she said in tears. Farah said she got a call and was told that Adil had passed away in a road accident.

    Later, Farah posted another video in which Adil is seen meeting relatives with several injuries on his body.

    After she posted the video of her husband coming home alive, people on social media started calling them out for their “publicity stunt”.

    Following the backlash, Farah recorded another video in which said that she got a call from Adil’s brother. She shared that Adil was unconscious for hours because of which his brother “panicked” and declared him dead.

    “Please, I request you all to stop spreading fake and authentic news,” asserted Farah.

    Hailing from Rahim Yar Khan, Rajput is a famous TikToker with over 2.6 million followers.

    Aviation vlogger Noel Philips shares experience of travelling on ‘banned’ PIA

    Travel expert and aviation vlogger, Noel Philips, recently released a vlog, sharing his experience of travelling on Pakistan International Airline (PIA) that is now banned in Europe and the United States (US) after it was revealed by the aviation minister that a large number of commercial pilots hold fake licenses.

    Noel shared his experience in a video titled ‘Flying a banned airline – Pakistan International Airline‘.

    Phillips said he was quite surprised after “seeing so many people with so much excess baggage”. As he entered the plane, he was welcomed and guided to his seat by a PIA official. 

    He then shared that a few passengers were shouting on flight attendants.

    “Most of the customers are onboard and a few people are on wrong seats and we’ve got passengers shouting at flight attendants and things, flight attendants running around with bits of paper in the hands.”

    Because of the chaos, the flight took off half an hour later than the scheduled time. 

    Phillips said he liked the food served on his flight.

    Sharing the cons, he said he was shocked to see garbage under the seats after he pushed his seat back. He further said that when he laid down to take some rest, he was woken up by “the unmistakable smell of cigarette smoke.” 

     “Passengers are strictly prohibited from smoking onboard PIA flights. I mean, there is a sign and everything and I am sure that not a single member of the crew or passengers would ever want to bend those rules, not on PIA surely.”

    Phillips, who flew from India to Islamabad, said that he liked the capital’s scenic views, the hospitality of Pakistani people and masala curries. 

    He wanted to share what people think about PIA through his vlog and was of the opinion that even a little amount of investment can improve the airlines.

    “And I really do think that given a little bit of investment in their aircraft, PIA could be up there with some of the best airlines,” he said while signing off.
