  • Fake Mr Bean sparks unexpected tussle between Pakistan-Zimbabwe fans ahead of T20 World Cup match

Fake Mr Bean sparks unexpected tussle between Pakistan-Zimbabwe fans ahead of T20 World Cup match

The fans of Pakistan and Zimbabwe teams are engaged in a heated Twitter debate as the two teams get ready for their important match in the 2022 T20 World Cup on Thursday (October 27) at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

Many are surprised to learn that the controversy on both sides has nothing to do with cricket and is instead a result of a bogus Mr Bean. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) post on their pre-match training session received a response from a Zimbabwean supporter, which sparked debates on both sides.

“As Zimbabweans we wont forgive you…you once gave us that Fraud Pak Bean instead of Mr Bean Rowan..we will settle the matter tomorrow just pray the rains will save you…#ZIMVSPAK,” a fan wrote on the micro-blogging site.

Later, it was discovered that a Pakistani guy named Asif Muhammed had visited Zimbabwe in 2016 and resembled the famous role portrayed by Rowan Atkinson. According to reports, the person who performed at roadshows, went to a comedy event and participated in the Harare Agricultural Show.

Speaking of the game, Pakistan will attempt to avenge their tragic last-ball loss to Team India in the opening encounter of the 2022 T20 World Cup on Sunday at the MCG. To keep their chances of making the semi-finals alive, the Men in Green are in desperate need of a victory.

Despite the Proteas being on the verge of winning in Hobart on Monday, Zimbabwe’s match against South Africa ended in a draw, giving them an unexpected point to open their campaign.

‘This super 12 is something else’, Twitter reacts to Ireland’s win against England

In a Super 12 match that was hampered by rain on Wednesday, Ireland pulled off the biggest upset of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 so far, defeating the defending champions England by five runs using the Duckworth-Lewis system.

Set to chase 158, England lost five wickets for 105 runs before the umpires suspended play due to persistent rain, allowing Ireland to pull off an incredible victory as the batting side was five runs off the mark using the D/L method.

Here is how Twitter is reacting to the match:

  • Pak Vs. Ind: Umpires come under fire for giving no-ball in last over, fans call it cheating

Pak Vs. Ind: Umpires come under fire for giving no-ball in last over, fans call it cheating

After India’s thrilling four-wicket victory against Pakistan in a heart-stopping T20 World Cup match, which took place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in front of 90,000 exuberant fans on Sunday, fans and experts were left perplexed by a few on-field decisions.

Virat Kohli led a 160-run chase that proved challenging after India were reduced to 31 for 4 with the score at 82 runs without loss.

The most crucial gear in India’s T20 machine, Hardik Pandya, scored 40 runs off 37 balls in a 113-run partnership. The pair carried the contest into the decisive over as it was close.

When Pandya holed out off Mohammed Nawaz’s bowling with 16 needed off the final six balls, Dinesh Karthik faced his first delivery and took a single because the crossover rule was not in effect.

After some discussion, the on-field umpires ruled that Nawaz’s delectable full-toss, which was hit for a six over square leg with 14 needed off three balls, was a no-ball.

By that point, Nawaz, the inspiration behind Pakistan’s Super 4 success in the Asia Cup, had lost his composure.

Ravichandran Ashwin hit the most significant boundary of his career after Nawaz bowled a wide and Karthik was stumped by a quick-thinking Mohammed Rizwan.

The umpire’s decision to grant three byes rather than declare a dead ball after Kohli was bowled on a free hit left the spectators with a bitter taste.

It should be noted that ICC rules and regulations permit runs on a dismissal off a free hit. Only after it is firmly placed in the bowler’s or wicketkeeper’s hands does the ball officially cease to exist.

Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg tweeted: “Why was no ball not reviewed, then how can it not be a dead ball when Kohli was bowled on a free hit.”

Fans criticised it as cheating, while some threw the law book at the umpires. Here are some tweets:

Additionally, there were tweets stating that commentator Nasser Hussain commented that “Umpires made some weird decision in favour of India today, but maybe we should keep quiet and not upset the ICC and BCCI,” which triggered another controversy on Twitter and angered fans even more.

After some time, Nasser clarified, saying that he had not said anything like that and that the fake quotes should be deleted.

  • ‘Surprise, disappointment’ PCB responds to India’s decision not to come to Pak

‘Surprise, disappointment’ PCB responds to India’s decision not to come to Pak

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reacted to a statement made by Board of Cricket Control in India secretary Jay Shah regarding Asia Cup 2023.

Jay Shah, who is also secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), had said that the Asia Cup 2023 which is to be hosted by Pakistan, will be shifted to a neutral venue.

In response, PCB has issued the following statement:

“The PCB has noted with surprise and disappointment yesterday’s comments made by the ACC President Mr Jay Shah with regards to shifting next year’s Asia Cup to a neutral venue. The comments were made without any discussion or consultation with the Board of the Asian Cricket Council or the Pakistan Cricket Board (event host) and without any thoughts towards their long-term consequences and implications.
After having presided over the ACC meeting during which Pakistan was awarded the ACC Asia Cup with an overwhelming support and response from the ACC Board Members, Mr Shah’s statement of shifting of the ACC Asia Cup has clearly been made unilaterally. This is contrary to the philosophy and spirit for which the Asian Cricket Council was formed in September 1983 – a united Asian cricket body to safeguard the interests of its Members and organise, develop, and promote the game of cricket in Asia.
The overall impact of such statements have the potential to split the Asian and international cricketing communities, and can impact Pakistan’s visit to India for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and future ICC Events in India in the 2024-2031 cycle.
The PCB has to date not received any official communication or clarification from the ACC on the statement of the ACC President. As such, the PCB has now requested the Asian Cricket Council to convene an emergency meeting of its Board as soon as practically possible to discuss this important and sensitive matter.”

  • Ticket sales for FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar are nearing 3 million: Infantino

Ticket sales for FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar are nearing 3 million: Infantino

Ticket sales for the FIFA World Cup are nearing three million ahead of the tournament’s start in Qatar on November 20, according to FIFA President Gianni Infantino and event organisers on Monday.

According to Brecorder, Qatar, the United States, and Saudi Arabia were the top three purchasing countries among the 2.89 million tickets sold, according to World Cup Chief Operating Officer Colin Smith at a news conference in Doha.

Infantino said in a video address to the conference that 240,000 hospitality packages for the month-long tournament, the first in a Middle Eastern country, had been sold.

Qatar, the smallest country to host soccer’s global showpiece tournament, expects an estimated 1.2 million visitors during the World Cup. Due to limited accommodation in Qatar, thousands of fans are expected to stay in neighbouring countries for matches.

Yasir Al Jamal, the director general of Qatar’s World Cup organising committee, told a news conference that 2 million room nights had been sold and that Qatar had added an additional 30,000 rooms to accommodate last-minute ticket sales.

Soccer teams, their support staff, and World Cup officials will occupy many hotel rooms in Doha. Japan will be the first team to arrive at the tournament on November 7, according to Smith.
