    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulates Islamabad United on winning PSL

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has congratulated Islamabad United for winning the ninth season of Pakistan Super League (PSL) yesterday.

    “The game of cricket unites the entire nation, the PCB, security forces, organizers, cricket fans are a tribute to the successful conduct of PSL,” the Premier said.

    “The entire league witnessed great competition and great sportsmanship, I am especially grateful to the international players who participated in the PSL.”

    Shehbaz Sharif thanked PSL, emphasizing that the league has helped in recovering international cricket. “The government is determined to take all possible steps to promote cricket and other sports in the country.”

    Islamabad United defeated Multan Sultans in an exciting match and won the title.

    United achieved Multan’s target of 160 runs on the last ball at the loss of 8 wickets and became PSL champions for the third time.

    In the final match of Pakistan Super League 9, Islamabad United defeats Multan Sultans by two wickets after a thriller match in national stadium Karachi.

    Playing first Multan scored 159 for the loss of 9 wicket in alloted 20 overs. From Multan Sultans, Muhammad Rizwan scored 26 runs, Usman Khan scored 57 and Iftikhar Ahmed scored 32 runs.

    Apart from this Khushdil Shah scored 11 runs, while seven of their batter could not even enter in double digit.

    From Islamabad United, Imad Wasim took five wicket while Shadab Khan took 3 wickets.

    Chasing the target of 160, Islamabad United was in trouble from the start of their inning as the lost their first three wicket for 55 runs. But Azam Khan and Martin Guptil scored a partnership of 47 runs.

    From Islamabad, Martin Guptil scored 50 runs, Azam Khan 30, Imad Wasim 19, Naseem Shah 17 and Colin Munro scored 17 runs.

    The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCP) has announced the prize money for the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

    According to the announcement, the winning team will get 14 crore rupees, while the runner up will be given a prize of 5.6 crore rupees.

    The best player of PSL will be given 30 lakh rupees, the best batsman, bowler and wicket keeper will get 35 lakh rupees each, the best all-rounder, fielder and umpire will also be given a prize of 35 lakh rupees.

    The cricketers who win the Emerging Player and Spirit of Cricket awards will also get prize money of 35 lakh rupees. Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board Mohsin Naqvi will distribute the prizes.

    The final match of the 9th season of PSL will be played between Islamabad United and Multan Sultans at National Bank Stadium Karachi today.

    Former Pakistani captain Shahid Afridi has backed bowler Muhammad Amir’s possible return to the national team.

    Talking to a local news channel, the still-popular Afridi compared Amir to Pakistani fast bowlers Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi.

    “Aamir can easily make a place in the Pakistan team’s line-up even today. He falls in the category of Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi. Amir still has cricket left in him and should play for Pakistan.”

    Former Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis also advised Shaheen Shah Afridi to observe Amir’s bowling against Islamabad United in the first eliminator of Pakistan Super League 9 at the National Bank Stadium, Karachi on Friday.
    “I hope Shaheen Afridi is watching it because I think he needs to do it more often , because initially if the ball is not swinging, just bowl on the length,” he said.

    During the first eliminator of PSL 9, Muhammad Amir took figures of 2/20 from four overs to restrict United to 174/9 in 20 overs, but the Gladiators failed to chase down the target and got out of PSL 9.

    The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has banned certain colours including white, gray and silver in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 jerseys.

    IPL team Punjab Kings (PBKS) unveiled their jersey for the upcoming IPL on Saturday, at the Elante Mall in Chandigarh.

    While speaking at the event Punjab Kings owner Preity Zinta said, “BCCI has banned certain colour like white, gray and silver in IPL jerseys because these colours matched with the ball.”

    She also recalled Punjab’s old jersey which had a mixture of red and grey from 2009-2013.

    “Earlier, we had a combination of red, grey and silver but then the BCCI banned silver, grey and white due to sighting issues with the ball. Hence, we went ahead with red and this year we have the best combination with red,” said Zinta at the event.

    Punjab Kings didn’t have a memorable last season as they finished at the eighth spot winning six out of 14 matches with total 12 points.

    Pakistani-born English footballer Adil Nabi has refused to play with the current management of the national team due to differences with coach Stephen Constantine.

    In a statement issued on social media, Adil Nabi said, “Just to make it clear, Aitzaz and I worked tirelessly to receive our passports to have the huge honour to represent our country. We will not participate in fixtures under the current management. I looked forward to play in front of you great Pakistani fans one day InshAllah”.

    Adil Nabi is currently playing league football in Cyprus. Aitzaz Hussain has yet to comment on the matter.

    According to media sources, Adil Nabi had differences with the head coach Stephen Constantine who was not satisfied with Adil Nabi’s behavior.

    In response, Harbhajan wrote, “No Indian has such a dream, you should also stop dreaming and wake up.”

    Due to the tension between the governments of the two countries, Pakistani players have not participated in the IPL since 2008.

    Singh’s tweet was criticised for being against sportsman’s spirit and for playing to India’s extremist right wing.

    In the 2nd eliminator of Pakistan Super League 9, Islamabad United defeats Peshawar Zalmi by 5 wickets in National Stadium Karachi.

    Playing first Peshawar Zalmi scored 185 runs for the loss of five wicket in allotted 20 overs. Peshawar Zalmi openers took very good start putting 72 runs on the board for the first wicket partnership. Saim Ayub scored 73 runs, Captain Babar Azam scored 25, Muhammad Haris 40, Tom Kohler Cadmore 18 and Aamir Jamal remained unbeaten with 17 runs.

    From Islamabad United side, Naseem Shah took three wickets while Shadab Khan and Obed McCoy took one wicket each.

    Chasing the target of 186 runs, Islamabad took very poor start. Saim Ayub dismissed Alex Hales in the first over and Salman Ali Agha in third over on just 5 runs. Islamabad lost their 5 wickets for 91 runs but Imad Wasim and Haider Ali took the charge scoring 59 and 52 runs respectively.

    Islamabad United chase down the target in 19 overs.

    From Peshawar Zalmi Saim Ayub took two while Luke Wood, Mehran Mumtaz and Khurram Shehzad took one wicket each.

    Islamabad will face Multan Sultans in final on March 18.

    Saud Shakeel, Abrar Ahmed fined for violating code of conduct

    Abrar Ahmed and Saud Shakeel of Quetta Gladiators have been fined 5 percent of their match fee for violating the code of conduct.

    Both were found guilty of violating the code of conduct during the match against Islamabad United at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi on Friday night.

    Abrar Ahmed has been fined under Article 2.4 of the Code of Conduct for ignoring the orders of the umpires during the 19th over of Islamabad United’s batting.

    In the same match, Saud Shakeel was also found to be in violation of Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct. After dismissing Islamabad United batsman Salman Ali Agha in the 12th over, Saud approached Salman and made remarks that could have enraged the batsman.

    Both the players admitted to the charges and accepted the sanctions recommended by match referee Mohammad Javed.
