To mark Defence Day and remember the shaheeds, former cricketer and philanthropist Shahid Afridi visited PAF’s Fighter Pilot Shaheed Marium Mukhtar’s house.
Taking to Twitter, Afridi shared pictures from his visit saying that “it was an amazing experience to hear about her bravery and courage, she will always be remembered.”
Born in May 1992, in Karachi, Mukhtiar hailed from a military family. Her father, a retired colonel of the Pakistan Army, inspired her to join the armed forces.
Marium graduated as a fighter pilot in 2007 with seven other female Pakistanis. She was on a routine training flight with her instructor Saqib Abbasi when her jet developed a fault and crashed at Kandian area in Bhakra near Mianwali on November 24, 2015. Even though Marium and her co-pilot ejected before the aircraft crashed, she suffered serious injuries which eventually lead to her demise.
The government of Pakistan posthumously honoured Marium with the Tamgha-e-Basalat (Medal of Good Conduct). A telefilm, Ek Thi Marium, starring Sanam Baloch in the lead was also made on her life.
Afridi on August 28 had appealed to his fellow countrymen to respond to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s call for Kashmir Hour and had announced then that he will visit the home of a shaheed on September 6.
Let’s respond to PM call for Kashmir Hour as a nation. I will be at Mazar e Quaid at 12 pm on Friday. Join me to express solidarity with our Kashmiri brethren. On 6 Sep I will visit home of a Shaheed. I will soon be visiting LOC.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has approved new projects worth Rs250 billion for uplifting of the country’s agriculture sector, Profitreported Friday.
As per the details, Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh has said that the aim of these projects is to enhance crop productivity and improve the means and resources for better farming.
“The government is fully aware of the difficulties being faced by the cotton growers and the fair prices for farmers would not only reduce their production cost but also encourage them to use more inputs and increase the crop area for enhanced productivity,” he added.
Ways to ensure competitive cotton prices for farmers in the coming season were also discussed in the meeting attended by office-bearers of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA), Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) and Kissan Ittehad.
Contribution of the country’s major crops, including cotton, wheat, rice, maize and sugarcane, in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is almost 5.4 per cent.

A teenager in Lahore has died after he was allegedly severely beaten by his school teacher.
Quoting the boy’s classmates, the police said that the teacher did this all because “he had failed to learn his lesson”.
The teacher has been arrested by the police and an FIR has been lodged against him and school. Meanwhile, the boy’s body has been shifted to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
As per reports, the boy was taken to the hospital from the school but could not be revived.
The FIR lodged by the victim’s father read “The school principal and administration had been mentally torturing my son for the past few days over non-payment of school fees.”
The deceased’s cousin took to social media to share the harrowing incident.
Hafiz hunain bilal was physically tortured by his teacher named Kamran Hashmi because he didn’t learn his lesson at school. The teacher struck the innocent child’s head with his knuckles and then banged his head against the wall. That inhumane being even kicked the poor soul.
According to the report, “The teacher punched him repeatedly, grabbed his hair and hit his head against the wall, all the while yelling at him.” As a result, the boy collapsed in the classroom and died.
Punjab’s Education Minister Dr Murad Raas has taken notice of the incident and has offered his “complete support” to the family.
My complete support is with you & your family in this extremely sad time. Teacher & Principal are in jail. My prayers are with you & your family. I am available for your concerns at any & all times. https://t.co/UOjaVlm0HH

Minister for Economic Affairs Hammad Azhar also expressed his condolences to the family on their loss and said that he will personally monitor the case and ensure the teacher and school are dealt with as per the law.
Furthermore, upon my return from FATF review in Thailand, I will be meeting with relevant education ministers on the subject of corporal punishment and the need for review of laws against it and their enforcement.
US President Donald Trump and Twitter King on August 30 tweeted out a photograph which he captioned: “The United States of America was not involved in the catastrophic accident during final launch preparations for the Safir SLV launch at Semnan Launch Site One in Iran. I wish Iran best wishes and good luck in determining what happened at Site One.”

Internet sleuths immediately noticed the high resolution of the photograph and pegged it as likely ‘classified’. It is now declassified since the US President tweeted it. Many experts told news agencies that they were concerned that the declassified photo could reveal unknown information about US drone or satellite surveillance.
Amateur satellite trackers reverse-engineered the image and figured out that it likely came from the highly classified USA 224 satellite. USA 224 is suspected to be a KH-11 surveillance satellite, a classified piece of equipment about which the public knows little.
The only confirmed photos from a KH-11 satellite were leaked in 1984 by a Navy intelligence analyst who ended up serving two years in prison for espionage.
India’s Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog (National Commission for Cows) and the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) are working together to produce a drug using cow urine and dung that “will help develop highly intellectual children”.
According to ThePrint, the commission has claimed that pregnant women may be able to give birth to “smart, highly intellectual and healthy children” if they consume the drug regularly.
The drug will be made using cow urine, dung, milk, ghee and curd, the commission’s chairman, Vallabhbhai Kathiria, told the media outlet.
The cow commission was set up by Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi’s government in February for the purpose of conservation and protection of cattle population in the country.
“Ministry of AYUSH and the newly-formed Ministry of Animal Husbandry will seek the cooperation of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in producing and marketing the drug,” the commission chairman was quoted as saying.
Hasan Minhaj has been creating waves ever since his Netflix show Patriotic Act started streaming on Netflix. Which is why Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau decided to do an exclusive interview with the comedian only months before the federal election in Canada. It was definitely a risk considering Minhaj’s unfiltered opinions and sharp political commentary. Trudeau is the only Prime Minister ever to be interviewed by Minhaj.
Hence it comes as almost no surprise that the Canadian premiere was roasted by Minhaj.
The interview started off very gently, with Minhaj paying Trudeau a few compliments and praising some of Trudeau’s greatest public relations hits, including his gender-balanced cabinet, his welcoming stance towards refugees, and his stated dedication to combating climate change.
However, things take a turn when Minhaj begins to question, Trudeau’s contradicting views and actions.
During the interview, Minhaj touches on Trudeau’s global reputation as a ‘progressive politician’, but then goes on to ask Trudeau about Canadians opposing the entry of more refugees, and the selling of arms to Algeria, Nigeria, Libya and Iraq. Minhaj even brings in Canada’s trade with Saudi Arabia and asks Trudeau to stop selling arms to them, pointing out that Canada has condemned that country for its involvement in the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Trudeau responds by saying Canada takes breaking contracts and its legal responsibilities seriously.
Minhaj then presses him about Canada’s Trans Mountain pipelines, asking why Canada pretends to be a leader in the fight against climate change when it still has the third largest reserve of oil in the world?
Trudeau responds to this by attempting to explain the country’s need for oil and pipelines, to which Minhaj simply says, “What you’re saying sounds like trying to whiten your teeth by drinking wine at every meal.”
If Trudeau had not been ‘roasted’ enough already, Minhaj also explains the SNC-Lavalin scandal saying that Trudeau has broken several of his election promises.
Minhaj also brings up Quebec’s new secularism bill and tries to get Trudeau to recite the Kalma Shahada. Quebec’s new law has banned people from wearing religious symbols, such as turbans or hijabs while working in the public sector.
On this Trudeau responded, “I disagree with it. A government shouldn’t be telling anyone what they should or shouldn’t wear in a free society, so I strongly disagree with that. I have been very clear that in a free society you cannot legitimize discrimination against someone based on their religion.”
However, the problem is that Trudeau hasn’t done anything about the deeply discriminatory law.
The whole thing wasn’t very pretty for Trudeau but a lot of Canadians are happy that the PM was called out for his contradictions.
“I understand, we all love Canada — I know it,” says Minhaj in the end. “None of you guys wanted to hear any of this. I might as well have done a 20-minute takedown of Tom Hanks. But there are realities about Canada and Trudeau that we cannot ignore. … Political pragmatism has to reckon with the reality of climate change.”
Pakistan Cricket Team’s newly appointed head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq will reportedly earn Rs 2.8 million (28 lakhs) per month for his dual role.
