  • How to save on your electricity bill?

How to save on your electricity bill?

The ever-increasing inflation has disturbed our budget to no extent. And considering its the summers, the electricity bill has practically sky-rocketed just like the mercury making it a feat to pay.

Here are four ways you can save on your electricity bill.

    Save on your appliances

Electronic devices consume energy even when they are not in use but plugged in. Unplug every electrical device that’s not needed. Moreover, fit LED lights instead of traditional bulbs as they use less energy and last longer than bulbs. Bulbs also produce more heat and make your home warmer.

    Save on your AC

Set the air-conditioning unit to “Auto” rather than the “On” mode, as this will regulate room temperature more effectively.

Don’t keep your AC’s temperature lower than 24 degrees celsius. Each degree cooler can represent the equivalent of a nine percent savings on cooling costs.

Ensure your air-conditioners are well maintained by regularly getting them checked from a good maintenance company. It is important to ensure that air filters are clean, refrigerant levels are maintained and electrical connections are working properly. If they’re not checked everyday issues have the potential to cause bigger problems which will eventually contribute to your expenses.

    Save when
    doing laundry

Around 90% of a washing machine’s energy is used to heat the water, so washing your clothes at 30-40C will help keep your electricity bill less. Another tip is don’t start the machine until you have a full load.

    Use less
    energy during peak hours

According to LESCO and K-electric, these are the peak and off-peak hours so try to use less energy during these hours.

  • Amazon forest burns, President Jair Bolsonaro accuses NGOs of setting fires

Fires are raging at a record rate in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest, and the Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, has accused environmental groups of setting fires, international news media outlets have reported.

According to the reports, the skies darkened over San Paulo, Brazil, for an hour Monday afternoon after winds carried smoke from about 1,700 miles away.

Dramatic images and videos on social media show giant plumes of smoke rising from the greenery and the hashtags Pray for Amazonas and Amazon Rainforest started trending on Twitter soon after.

Environmental groups blame Brazil’s far-right president, Jair Bolsonaro, for the endangerment of the vital rainforest as they accused him of relaxing environmental controls in the country and encouraging deforestation.

The scientists have warned that the increasing number of fires will strike a devastating blow to the fight against climate change.

The research data shared from the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) shows that Brazil has seen 72,843 fires this year, with more than half in the Amazon region, making it an 80% increase compared with the same period last year.

The Amazon is often referred to as the planet’s lungs, as it produces 20% of the oxygen in the Earth’s atmosphere and is considered vital in slowing global warming.

It is the largest rainforest on the planet and is home to uncountable species of fauna and flora.

Pak-India social media war ensues as India tries to ban Pakistani anchor

There’s something fishy going on Twitter. PTA also said that Twitter “blocked Pakistani accounts under the influence of Indian lobbies”.

    PTA’s press release via Twitter

  • Hamza Ali Abbasi expresses love for Naimal, urges friends to propose to each other

Hamza Ali Abbasi expresses love for Naimal, urges friends to propose to each other

And it has finally been confirmed.

In a social media update, Hamza Ali Abbasi put to rest all the speculations and confirmed that he is indeed tying the knot with actress Naimal Khawar in a “small Nikkah on August 25” followed by a valima on August 26.

Talking in detail about his spiritual journey, Hamza said, “When you realise that [life] is not fairytales and it is TRUTH that you have a Rabb & you will stand accountable infront of him after you die, it changes you. Your first priority becomes fixing yourself rather than changing the world.”

He continued, “You beg Allah for help and no matter how many times you fail you promise Allah that you will rather die trying and failing but you will never give up in your pursuit to do what pleases him and avoid what displeases him. Then one day, in one specific aspect of your life, Allah gets satisfied with the sincerity of heart & accepts your extremely flawed efforts for him and then HE TAKES OVER! He rewards you and opens your heart towards things that were unthinkable for you before.”

On marrying Naimal, Hamza said, “Some people get married for themselves because either they fall in love or because their lonely or maybe because of family or to have kids, these are also good reasons, but believe me when your sole reason is to please Allah then Allah makes a man like me, who could never sustain anything emotional with the opposite gender, could never comprehend the idea of marriage in his head, Allah makes that man go upto his very platonic friend of two years Naimal and tell her that he doesn’t want a relationship (that GF/BF nonsense) neither is he claiming to be in love with her but he wants to marry her with the intention of strengthening his very turbulent efforts to walk a path which pleases Allah and to my surprise she agrees not just to marry me but also expresses her joy in walking this path with me & now we can’t even breathe without each other.”

Following Hamza’s declaration of love, people began to speculate about how the couple’s “love story” began. To this Hamza said that there is no “love story”, they were friends for two years before deciding to tie the knot.
