Humaima Malick recounts being abused domestically

Fatema Sohail’s account of being domestically abused by her husband actor-singer Mohsin Abbas Haider has sparked a much-needed debate on the practise which is so prevalent in Pakistan behind closed doors. Fatema, while speaking to the media, had shared that many women had come forward and recounted their ordeal of being domestically abused.

One such person who has also opened up about being a victim of domestic violence is actor Humaima Malick. Humaima revealed that she was beaten almost to death multiple times and she feels ashamed that she did not stand up for herself earlier. The actor, however, did not name or shame anyone.

Humaima was married to actor-director Shamoon Abbasi for a brief period before the couple parted ways.

Previously Humaima’s sister, Dua Malik had come forward to support Fatema’s claims and said that she herself has witnessed Mohsin’s cruel behaviour towards his wife.

Till death do us part: Lahore woman kills boyfriend for marrying someone else

A young woman allegedly shot dead her boyfriend for marrying someone else in Lahore’s Raiwind area.

As per details, the women, identified as Fiza, killed the deceased Muddasar in the street after chasing him on a motorcycle through the market area.

The police, who have arrested the suspect, said that initial investigation revealed that Mudassar had promised to marry Fiza. Fiza, a divorcee, had convinced her parents for her second marriage. Meanwhile, Mudassar cheated on Fiza and married someone else which irked Fiza who then hatched a plan to kill him with the help of two other friends.

On Tuesday, when Mudassar was going to market with his brother on a motorbike, an armed Fiza started chasing them with her accomplices. As Mudassar and his brother approached their home, Fiza opened fire on them. A bullet hit Mudasar in the chest killing him on the spot.

The police have lodged a murder case against Fiza, who surrendered herself to the police along with the murder weapon.

There’s a problem of sexism in Pakistan: Meera

Fatema Sohail’s allegations of domestic abuse and cheating on Mohsin Abbas Haider have sparked a debate on the issue of domestic violence and the rights of a wife in our society. Though it’s sad that the issue is gaining traction now, considering that it something that almost every woman in this society has experienced, better late than never, right?

Meera, who recently shared the screen with Mohsin in Baaji, expressed her thoughts on a matter, saying that men have no clue on how to talk to women.

“There is a problem of sexual harassment and sexism in Pakistan,” Meera said while talking to a media outlet. “Women are treated like paon ki jooti and are not given their due rights.”

Meera then said that films on the issues of domestic violence need to be made.

When asked on how Mohsin is as a person, Meera responded that all actors have two different lives – their personal/family life and their screen life. She said that her relationship with Mohsin was that of a colleague and she doesn’t know any details of his married life. She said she will get a clearer picture after she meets Mohsin and his family and fully understands the matter.

On whether Mohsin should be punished or not, Meera said, “If the woman is at fault, then the man should be served justice. And if the man is at fault, then the woman should be given justice.”

  • CNIC must for shopping over Rs50,000

CNIC must for shopping over Rs50,000

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has made it mandatory for citizens to show their Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC) for purchases over Rs50,000.

According to reports, the said purchases shall be made from a registered sales tax vendor, while in case of a female buyer, the CNIC of her husband or father would also be acceptable.

The development comes as the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) tightens the noose around undocumented individuals making purchases without paying taxes.

According to Dawn, all such measures are primarily aimed at bringing small, medium and even some large retailers into the sales tax net. FBR further states that transactions under ‘good faith’ will not be penalised.

“No action will be undertaken without the approval of the chief commissioner of the jurisdiction.”

Furthermore, where the incidence exceeds Rs5 million, the action will require further approval of member operation or director general (export-oriented sector). No action will be taken unless it has been undertaken against the person who has used a fake CNIC, reports said.

This condition will help avoid unverifiable and fictitious business buyers which results in huge sales tax losses.
