  • Govt drops plan to make PM House a research university

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has dropped its earlier plan of converting the Prime Minister’s (PM) House into a research university and instead an “emerging technologies and engineering” university will be established.

As per the details, the new idea will be materialised at a cost of around Rs30 billion and the university will be headed by former Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman Dr Attaur Rahman.

“The proposal to have a policy institute at the PM House has been abandoned on my advice and rather an emerging technologies and engineering university will be set up in the vacant area of the venue,” Dr Rehman told a local English daily.

Earlier, the Education Ministry had completed the process of making the PM House a research university, named as “Islamabad National University”, in the first phase.

The university was to be constructed on 30 acres of land acquired from the polo ground, stables and mountains of the PM House in the second phase.

Reports had said that a research institute was to be made initially which was to be further given the status of a university.

‘Parey Hut Love’ has more stars than you can count

The trailer of Asim Raza’s much-awaited romantic drama Parey Hut Love released Friday and the one thing that caught our attention was the plethora of stars in the film.

Apart from the star-studded lead cast which includes Sheheryar Munawar, Maya Ali, Zara Noor Abbas, Ahmad Ali Butt, Hina Dilpazeer and Freiha Altaf, there were glimpses of Mahira Khan, Meera, Fawad Khan, Cybil Chowdry and Sonya Jehan in the film.

And given that it’s an Asim Raza venture, we’re pretty sure there’ll be plenty of more cameos.

The three-minute trailer was fun, colourful, festive and glamourous and the premise of the film appears to be shaadi – no points for guessing that.

Parey Hut Love releases on Eid-ul-Azha.

    Make Maldives part of Pakistan

A Pakistani citizen filed a suggestion on the Prime Minister’s Citizen Portal requesting for the Maldives to be merged with Pakistan because its a “Muslim country.”

The request which was received from an unknown person from Lahore stated that the Republic of Maldives should be made a part of Pakistan because “with rising sea levels, Maldives could be under water in the next 50 to 100 years” threatening the lives of 5 lakh Muslims who reside in the island country. As per the citizen, Maldives is Muslim nation and our neighbour, hence “it is our responsibility to do something about it. Allah taala rewards good deeds and it is justification enough.”

The citizen also believed that the inclusion of Maldives “will enrich Pakistan financially and culturally and provide a strategic spot in the middle of the Indian Ocean.”

He concluded his suggestion saying, “It’s a win win.”

    The request was closed.

Now whether the request was genuine or it was a joke remains a mystery.

On Benazir Bhutto’s birthday, here are her favourite things

June 21 marks Pakistan, and the Muslim world’s first female Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s birthday. She would have been 66 today.

The Current got in touch with those close to Benazir and asked them what the former PM would have liked as a present.

Most of them told us that Benazir had a sweet tooth and loved chocolates with nuts so that would have been the ideal gift. She was also very fond of ice-cream with caramel.

Apart from that cotton shalwar suits would have also been a great gift for Benazir, who we all know had a strong fashion sense.

Reading was one of her favourite past times and she would regularly read books on current international politics. Books would have also been an ideal gift for her.

All in all, books, chocolates and a shalwar suit are the three things BB would have liked as a present. Simple.
