    I’m very sorry, says Faisal Vawda to court

    Senator Faisal Vawda has tendered an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court on Wednesday in a contempt case.

    In his reply to the show cause notice issued by the Supreme Court, Vawda said, “In light of Islamic teachings, I apologise sincerely and unconditionally [and] leave myself at the mercy of the court.”

    Last month, the Supreme Court took suo-moto notice of the senator’s critical press conference against judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

    “Stop targeting the institutions, enough is enough. If there is any interference by institutions, then provide evidence and we will stand together [against it] […] give evidence and we will stand beside you,” exclaimed the Senator in the presser, addressing IHC judges.

    Vawda was referring to the infamous letter written by six Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) alleging blatant interference of spy agencies in judicial affairs.

    The court had also issued a show-cause notice to Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Deputy Convener Mustafa Kamal.

    During the last hearing on June 5, the court rejected Kamal’s request to accept his apology in the contempt suo motu case, whereas Vawda had refused to apologise for his remarks against judges altogether.

    In an interview with VOA Urdu on Wednesday, Former Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry stated that he made the “mistake of cutting ties with the establishment on Imran Khan’s advice.”

    When asked whether he was still in contact with the army, he replied laughing, “They beat us senselessly, what contacts are going to exist now?”

    The former federal minister further stated, “We made a big mistake acting on Khan’s advice to cut all contacts with them [establishment]; if we had continued our correspondence, then there would have been no miscommunications.”

    Chaudhry then elaborated, “There was someone who was telling Imran Khan that they [establishment] are going to kill him. Likewise, there was someone telling them [establishment] they Imran Khan is going to end you.”

    Fawad Chaudhry stated that, “When people like us stopped the contact with establishment; our misunderstandings increased.”

    US supports Pakistan’s Operation Azm-e-Istehkam

    United States State Department on Wednesday said that the US supports “Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism” after the federal government of Pakistan approved a new anti-terrorism Operation Azm-e-Istehkam.

    Earlier this week, the Prime Minister’s Office clarified that no internal dislocation of people would occur due to this operation as in previous Operations like Zarb-e-Azb and that “only intelligence-based operations would be carried out against terrorists.”

    State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller, when asked about the new operation and the US reaction to its announcement, said: “We support Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism and ensure the safety and security of its citizens in a manner that promotes the rule of law and protection of human rights.”

    “Pakistani people have suffered tremendously from terrorist attacks. No country should have to suffer such acts of terror,” he said, adding that the US and Pakistan have a shared interest in combating threats to regional security.

    Opposition parties in Pakistan include Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam Fazl (JUI-F), Awami National Party (ANP), and others have voiced concerns over the military operation.

    Mehwish said, “Luckily, I have been blessed to be part of the revival of Pakistani cinema from the beginning. I’ve worked with Nabeel, I’ve worked with Nadeem, and seeing the love people showed for our films, and how great those films were, made me feel I don’t need to go elsewhere to prove myself. I am appreciated in my own country, where actors receive the respect they deserve. However, it’s unfair that due to film promotions, sometimes we don’t even get to watch our films in cinemas for the first time with our team members. So, I prefer to play on my home ground, play well, and enjoy.”

    Sounds like a good enough reason to us too.

    ‘Budget by babus, of babus, for babus,’ says Bilawal in NA speech

    Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Tuesday emphasised the need for a national consensus over a “Charter of Economy” to solve the country’s financial problems.

    In his speech, Bhutto criticised the “babus”, euphemism for the bureaucracy, for not knowing the ground realities of the country.

    “Without political input, the budget will be by the babus, for the babus and of the babus. And we want to end this tradition,” said the PPP chairman.

    The PPP, which is the main ally of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), continued to raise objections for not taking it into confidence regarding the federal budget.

    The party initially boycotted the session on the economic budget, but both parties have since held several rounds of talks.

    Bilawal further said, “A politician would never suggest taxing milk or stationary in a country with a 40 percent stunting rate and 26 million out-of-school children, but this would be a “babu’s” suggestion.”

    The head of PPP also said the abolishment of anti-corruption body National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is necessary because “NAB and the economy cannot go together.”

    In a high-level meeting of the leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Shibli Faraz and Barrister Saif have advised party members to wait for complete details about the newly announced Operation Azm-e-Istehkam before taking any decision.

    Gandapur had previously attended the Apex committee and later informed his party leaders that he supported his stance of waiting for details of the operation Azm-e-Istehkam, but Geo News reported that most party members did not agree with him.

    “The approval of the operation symbolises the national resolve to eradicate all forms of extremism and terrorism from the country,” the Prime Minister’s Office said about the newly approved military operation.

    Opposition parties, including the PTI, Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam Fazl (JUI-F), Awami National Party (ANP), and others, have expressed reservations about the military operation, insisting that parliament must be fully briefed.

    Eight patients die in Karachi Civil Hospital amidst extreme heat

    The administration of Civil Hospital in Karachi has reported the death of eight patients due to severe dehydration among 40 to 45 heat-affected individuals brought to the emergency room. The deceased suffered from co-morbidities such as epilepsy, diabetes, and high blood pressure.

    Meanwhile, the meteorological department has forecasted intense heat for the next two days in Karachi. Health experts have advised citizens to avoid direct sunlight, stay hydrated, and wear light-coloured, loose clothing.

    For the second consecutive day, Karachi experienced scorching temperatures in to the absence of sea breezes during the day, leading to severe heat discomfort among residents.

    Additionally, rescue sources reported the discovery of seven bodies of drug addicts from various parts of the city today, bringing the total to 17 deaths in the last two days.

    Temperatures soared to 42 degrees Celsius, with the ‘Feels Like’ at 50 degrees in some areas such as Gulistan Johar where apartments recorded 43.7 degrees Celsius.

    Furthermore, water supply disruptions were reported across Karachi during the heatwave. Areas like Federal B Area Blocks 19 and 20, as well as Kharadar, faced water shortages. Protests erupted in Baldia Naval Colony and Musa Colony due to the lack of water and electricity.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s maverick Sher Afzal Marwat called ex-Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa a “traitor” while criticising his policies in a PTI protest at 10 Downing Street, London.

    “May God never give us such a treacherous and shameless army general as General Bajwa,” said Marwat to a charged audience in the British capital.

    He then blamed the current COAS General Asim Munir for continuing the alleged oppressive policies of General Bajwa.

    “Shehbaz Sharif’s appointed COAS General Asim Munir has carried on the legacy of Bajwa’s oppressive policies in the country,” said Marwat.

    Sher Afzal also stated that the public has always supported the Pakistan Army and expected the same from its institution.

    Geo news has reported that 10 bodies were found in Karachi in a span of nine hours on Sunday.

    Rescue officials revealed that all the individuals were likely drug addicted, adding that three bodies were discovered at the KMC ground in Lyari’s Lashari neighborhood while other were found in Golimar, Jahangir Road, Landhi Godam Chowrangi, Defense Phase Seven, Orangi Town Sector 15, and Khamisu Goth.

    The bodies were initially taken to respective police stations and then to the mortuary.

    De Kock crossed this milestone by catching Rovman Powell on a Keshav Maharaj ball in the match against West Indies.

    De Kock’s 100 dismissals in T20 Internationals include 82 catches and 18 stumpings.

    The second name on this list is former India wicketkeeper MS Dhoni, who has a total of 91 catches in T20 Internationals.
