    ‘Meray sawalon ka jawab do’: Shujaat Hussain asks Shehbaz Sharif

    Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain is waiting for a response from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif.

    Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) delegation led by Sirajul Haq, visited the residence of the Chaudhrys of Gujrat in Lahore to see Hussain. PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was not present.

    During the meeting, Hussain said, “We asked Shehbaz Sharif some questions during a discussion on the proposed no-confidence movement, but the answers are still awaited,” reports Dawn.

    It was also reported that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the top leadership of PML-Q had a meeting, in which the Chaudhry brothers presented their Charter of Demands to former President Asif Ali Zardari.

    The PML-Q has asked the Opposition for the Chief Ministership in Punjab and stated that no compromise will be made on anything less than that.

    In case of getting Chief Ministership, the PML-Q has assured the success of in-house transformation in Punjab and Centre. The PML-Q has said that it will fully support the Opposition at the Centre.

    In February, Shehbaz went to Chaudhrys residence where the leaders of the two rival parties met each other for a formal political meeting after a gap of about 14 years.

    PM Khan is scheduled to meet the PML-Q leadership during his daylong visit to Lahore today.

    Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has contacted disgruntled Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Tareen after the politician left Pakistan for the United Kingdom, said Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mahmood Qureshi, reports Geo News.

    “The prime minister was informed that Jahangir Tareen was unwell,” Qureshi said.

    Qureshi said PM Khan had called the PTI leader to inquire about his health as he left for London for a medical check-up.

    It was earlier reported that Tareen spent a week in a private hospital in Lahore and would spend a week in London.

    PM Khan is scheduled to meet Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s (PML-Q) Chaudhry brothers during his daylong visit to Lahore today.

    Russia and Ukraine talks begin after Putin puts nuclear forces on alert

    After five days of Russian aggression, Moscow and Ukraine have begun high-level talks on the Ukraine-Belarus border with the aim of an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of Russian forces, reports Al Jazeera.

    The Ukrainian military claimed that the pace of Russia’s assault has slowed. However, a day earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin put the country’s nuclear forces on high alert.

    Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called the next 24 hours “crucial” for the country. He has also indicated that he sees little prospect of any meaningful dialogue.

    He said he was not confident that any progress would be made. “Let’s try, so that no citizen of Ukraine would have any doubt that I, as president, tried to stop the war when there was even a chance,” he stated.

    Ukraine’s health ministry stated that 352 Ukrainian civilians have been killed so far, including 14 children. Moreover, tens of thousands of Ukrainians have fled to Romania and other neighbouring countries to seek shelter.

    Earlier, Zelensky had asked the European Union (EU) to admit Ukraine as a member state. As a result, multiple European countries are offering military aid to Kyiv.

    Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said that North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member states are also stepping up their support for Ukraine by “providing Kyiv with air-defence missiles and anti-tank weapons.”

    More than 63 million children to be vaccinated in massive five day polio drive

    A five-day anti-polio drive began in different parts of the country on Monday. More than, 63 million children will be will be vaccinated during the polio drive. The government has set a target of twenty-two million children in Punjab and more than one hundred and fifty thousand polio workers have been deployed for the purpose.

    In Sindh, anti-polio drops will be given to approximately ten million children under the age of five in thirty districts. The initiative will involve seventy thousand health professionals and ten thousand supervisors.

    During the drive, anti-polio drops would be given to nearly 2.5 million children under the age of five in Balochistan. Approximately 10,000 teams have been formed for this purpose.

    In the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, anti-polio vaccination will be provided to around 6.2 million children under the age of five in twenty-nine districts.

    During the door-to-door campaign, over 30,000 teams will administer anti-polio drops to children. To esnure the administering anti-polio drops to maximum children polio teams will also be available at railway stations.

    Pakis­tan People’s Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Sunday began to march towards the federal capital.

    “You [people of the country] have heralded a war and let me tell you that Islamabad is trembling,” he said to the crowd.

    Chairman Bilawal said that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan asks people not to worry due to price-hike, unemployment, poverty, and crises of gas, water, and fertiliser. Now, the time has come for the PM to start worrying.

    “The puppet is frightened of the Jiyalas so he has sent a few of his ministers to defend him but this selected party is a coterie of political orphans,” said an official statement released by the party.

    “Imran Khan has lost the confidence of the people and it is about time that he loses the confidence of the parliament too. The no-confidence motion will expose who is with the people and who is with the selected Imran Khan. We believe that the people will be victorious.”

    “This storm of public anger against Niazi and his government is just the beginning of what lies ahead. From now onwards for the next 10 days, people from across the country would send him messages of their sentiments and make a countdown. It’s a beginning. It’s a beginning of an end. It’s the beginning of a new era. It’s a beginning of a realization [prevailing] among the masses that how their dreams were snatched over the last three years and their hopes were stolen in the name of change.”

    PPP released a charter of demands, “Why We March”.

    “We march to realise your dreams, aspirations, dignity, self-respect, and prosperity. We fight to heal the wounds inflicted by this regime, heal our society, heal our country. The people of Pakistan shall not be enslaved, they will not be defeated.”

     The PPP caravan would cover 2,000kms and pass through 35 cities to reach Islamabad on March 10.

    Mohammad Zubair, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and spokesperson for party supremo Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, said that it could not be the PML-N’s priority to hand over the Chief Minister (CM) seat to Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in Punjab.

    Speaking on Geo News programme ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath’, Zubair said, “There are still many things that have yet to be agreed upon.”

    “Discussing the option of handing over CM Punjab portfolio to Pervaiz Elahi doesn’t mean that the PML-N leadership has decided on this,” said Zubair.

    “Ousting the incumbent government is in the interest of the country and we [Opposition] are completely agreed on it,” said the PML-N spokesperson.

    Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said that in the meetings with former President Asif Ali Zardari, Chief of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and Leader of the Opposition Shehbaz Sharif, several things were discussed and shall be revealed at the right time.

    Shujaat also said that poor people would stop trusting politicians if they were just busy in political meetings. Economic conditions should be given utmost importance.

    More than 25,000 women abducted in Punjab in three years, police records reveal

    According to police records, 25,099 women were abducted in Punjab between 2019 to 2021. As per details, 6,571 cases of abduction of women were registered in 2019, 8,129 cases were registered in 2020 and 10,399 cases of abduction of women were registered in 2021.

    According to the police, in the last three years, suspects involved in only eight cases of abduction have been convicted. Furthermore, 5,947 cases are still under investigation while challans of 5,157 cases have been submitted to the courts.

    As per the police records,13,901 cases of abduction of women were withdrawn because the abducted women said that they had left by choice. Moreover, 94 women have not been traced yet.

    Earlier this month, a report published in The News said that in the last six months 2,439 women were raped, 9,529 were kidnapped, while 90 women were killed in the name of honour in Punjab.

    Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif has said that he is thankful to those who have proposed his name for the slot of prime minister (PM).

     In an interaction with journalists on Friday, Shehbaz Sharif said, “I am thankful to those who have proposed my name for the slot of prime minister… but who says I am taking the office (as premier) for a year or so?”

    “The decision about the new prime minister in the wake of the success of a no-trust move will be finalised by (PML-N Quaid) Nawaz Sharif in consultation with Opposition parties.”

    Shehbaz Sharif, former President Asif Ali Zardari, and Chief of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Maulana Fazlur Rehman met on Wednesday evening at the residence of the PML-N leader.

    After the meeting, it was reported that Shehbaz Sharif wanted someone from within the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) as the prime minister while the PPP wanted Shehbaz Sharif to be the next prime minister, a proposal that he was reluctant to accept. They claimed that former president Asif Ali Zardari nominated Shehbaz Sharif as the prime minister while Shehbaz named PPP’s Khursheed Shah for the slot.

    The Opposition parties have also started signing the no-confidence motion against PM Imran Khan and the united Opposition claimed the support of 24 members of the ruling party.

    Get your seat online: PCB announces ticket availability for Pakistan-Australia Test series

    The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the availability of Pakistan-Australia test series tickets online from today (Friday).

    The matches will be played in several cities of Pakistan— Rawalpindi (March 4-8), Karachi (March 10-12) and Lahore (March 21-25 ).

    According to the board, the ticket price for the general enclosure has been fixed at Rs 100, a first-class ticket at Rs 200, a premium ticket at Rs 350 and VIP Enclosure ticket at Rs 500.

    In the first phase, 50 per cent of the tickets will be sold. The remaining ones will be offered for sale after the confirmation of the number of spectators from the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC).

    PCB has directed that ticket holders are required to bring their Covid-19 immunisation certificate and Identity cards along with them.

    Australian test skipper Pat Cummins said his team is “comfortable” with security arrangements and excited by what lies ahead.

    The Kangaroos are due to leave over this weekend.
