VIDEO: ‘Gilani is a bika hua siyasatdaan,’ Shah Mahmood Qureshi warns Senate

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi while addressing the Senate lashed out at Leader of the Opposition Yusuf Raza Gilani.

“I said it yesterday and I am saying it today, he [Gilani] said that I don’t want to be Leader of the Opposition, he was lying. He will stay, he will take back his resignation. He will stick to this chair. This was all a drama,” said Qureshi.

Qureshi said, “I am warning you, honourable members of the Senate, listen and pay attention to what I am saying. Members of the Senate, the Leader of the Opposition is a compromised leader. Don’t rely on him.”

“Don’t you see a seasoned and respected parliamentarian like Raza Rabbani? Don’t you see a respected politician like Sherry Rehman sitting in your rows? He [Gilani] is compromised and a sellout,” said Qureshi.

On Monday, Gilani announced that he had submitted his resignation as Leader of the Opposition to his party. “In the end, I will say that I have already submitted my resignation to my party that I don’t want to be the Leader of the Opposition.”

Money Laundering: Sindh High Court stops FIA from taking action against TikToker Hareem Shah

The Sindh High Court on Monday stopped the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) from taking any action against TikTok star Hareem Shah related to an inquiry on money laundering charges till March 8.

Hareem’s counsel filed an urgent petition against the FIA’s investigation into a money laundering case on behalf of her husband, Syed Bilal Hussain Shah. After which the SHC issued a stay order.

Despite the FIA’s orders freezing the social media celebrity’s bank accounts, Hareem’s lawyer told the court that she wants to help the agency in the investigation but is afraid of being imprisoned when she returns from the United Kingdom.

Hareem would join the investigation as soon as she returns to Pakistan, according to the lawyer.

“No coercive action shall be taken against the petitioner till the next hearing,” the court remarked.

Is Shahnawaz Dahani ‘overrated’? Divided battle rages on Twitter

Young pacer from Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans Shahnawaz Dahani on Monday failed to impress fans with his bowling figures and the recent spanking in the match against Quetta Gladiators pushed him in hot waters as Pakistani Twitter is discussing if Dahani is overrated.

Dahani was less accurate in the penultimate over and fortunate not to see more slot balls dispatched, leaking 15 in his six deliveries. While he conceaded 33 runs in his two overs.

We have collected some reactions of the Twitterati, where they are discussing that if the young pacer needs to improve his game while some are suggesting to give him another chance. Have a look:

David Willey’s last over wickets and Shan Masood’s 88-run knock sealed the deal for the Sultans. The Gladiators were smelling victory in the last over as they needed eight runs from six balls, but Willey did not let them get the better of the Sultans at the National Stadium.

Willey dismissed two players, Sohail Tanvir (13) and Naseem Shah (1) to take Sultans to a 6-run victory, as Gladiators were all-out at 168, with a ball remaining.

Khushdil Shah, Willey, and Imran Tahir picked up three wickets.

Earlier, in the match against Lahore Qalandars, the pacer from Larkana had conceaded 44 runs in his 4 overs, taking only one wicket.

Nawaz Sharif has not undergone any procedure since 2020

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif has not undergone any medical procedure since 2020, reports Dawn.

Sources privy to the matter revealed to the news outlet that the former prime minister was advised to undergo a fresh cardiac procedure that is not without its risks.

Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid said that Sharif has had ample time for treatment — Covid or no Covid — and “if he has survived for two years on medication alone, he is stable” enough to travel back to Pakistan.

Rashid further points out that while cardiac catheterisation — the procedure that the former premier was scheduled to undergo when he proceeded abroad — could also have been carried out in Pakistan, Sharif had insisted he would prefer to undergo the procedure in the UK, where he had already been operated upon twice.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Attorney-General of Pakistan (AGP) Barrister Khalid Javed Khan has said that there is no evidence to support that Nawaz Sharif’s medical reports are fake.

Speaking on Geo News show ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath’, the AGP Javed said they do not want to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Shehbaz Sharif over the subject of Nawaz Sharif’s return. Instead, he said, they want the situation to be settled amicably.

AGP Khalid Javed said that Rashid too said that the medical reports of Nawaz Sharif were not fake.

Earlier the AGP had written a letter to the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif to bring back his brother Nawaz Sharif to Pakistan.

The AGP had instructed Shehbaz to submit Nawaz’s medical reports within the next ten days. In case he fails to do so, contempt of court petition will be filed against Shahbaz.

  • Taliban to reopen universities, silence on female students maintained

Taliban to reopen universities, silence on female students maintained

The Taliban acting Higher Education Minister Shaikh Abdul Baqi Haqqani has made an announcement that the public universities will be opened next month, i.e. February, across the country without specifying whether female students would be able to return or not.

According to Reuters, the minister said universities in warmer provinces will reopen from February 2, while those in colder areas would reopen on February 26.

The minister did not say what arrangements, if any, would be made for female students. However, earlier this month, government officials said that they hope to open all schools for girls and women in the country after March 21 but stressed that girls and boys must be completely segregated in schools.

Since Taliban’s takeover in August, girls in most of Afghanistan have not been allowed back to school beyond grade seven. However, private universities in Kabul are still operating.

Western governments have made education for female students a part of their demands as the Taliban seek more foreign aid and the unfreezing of overseas assets for which they have called Muslim countries to recognise them and made a recent visit to Oslo, Norway, where they presented their demands.
