Shaukat Tarin leaves US without concluding talks with IMF

Adviser to the Prime Minister (PM) on Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin left Washington on Thursday without concluding the talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), reports Dawn.

The minister, however, left Finance Secretary Yousaf Khan behind to further carry on the talks for the resumption of a $6 billion loan facility that would bring immediate relief to the government by delivering a suspended tranche of $1billion.

Tarin first came to Washington in early October and went to New York on October 15.

Tarin met IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and other officials twice, and after both meetings, each side expressed the hope that the consultations would soon lead to a positive conclusion.

However, Tarin quietly left Washington on Thursday. He may join PM Khan who is scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia this weekend.

Here we are once again, mid-week blues are hitting me very hard. Or maybe it is just the smog or the changing weather. I just want to sleep these days. Does this happen to you as well?

Ah, and did you hear that social media giant Facebook might be changing its name next week. I didn’t see that see coming. It’s not suspcious, actually. The platform is just rebranding itself to reflect its focus on building the metaverse, a virtual-reality space in which users can interact with a computer-generated environment and other users. That sounds incredible! What do you think would be Facebook’s new name?

Also, did you watch another disturbing video of Zahir Jaffer’s outside the court? The reporter asked Zahir about his view on the ongoing trial. Zahir replied, saying “the whole thing is a f***g joke. That’s what I would say”. This is unbelievable. May justice prevail!

It is going to be sunny today.

PPP leader Khursheed Shah granted bail, name to be placed on ECL

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah was granted bail from the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan today (Thursday) in the assets beyond means case, reports Geo News.

The court has directed Shah to submit bail bonds worth Rs10 million as the surety against his bail and ordered that his name be placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).

Justice Umar Atta Bandial, who chaired the hearing of Shah’s bail plea, also directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to continue its investigations but not keep Shah permanently in jail.

In July, the Sindh High Court (SHC) dismissed Shah’s request for bail. Later, he challenged the local court’s decision in the apex court.

NAB had arrested Khursheed Shah on September 18, 2019, accusing him of allotting himself an amnesty plot illegally from a cooperative society in Sukkur.

NAB also accused Shah of acquiring assets worth some Rs700 million in the names of his frontmen through illegally acquired money.

A 70-year-old woman in Indian Gujarat has given birth to a baby boy after conceiving through In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) treatment.

As per reports, Jivuben Valabhai does not have any ID to prove her age, but she said that she has seen 65-70 summers till now. The couple had been married for 45-years but could not have children.

They approached Dr Naresh Bhanushali, who runs the Harsh IVF Centre in the area, after finding out about the procedure through relatives.

“Her blood pressure was high and we had to deliver the child via C-section in the eighth month of the gestation period,” Dr Bhanushali added.

“We had a team of doctors including a cardiologist, a physician on standby — anything could have gone wrong because of her age but she was fine and gave birth to a healthy baby.”
