  • Two men arrested for pretending to be women

    Cyber Crime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has detained two men in Lahore — one of them a foreign national — on charges of looting people while posing as women on Facebook, Samaa has reported.

    The Cyber Crime Wing has arrested one foreigner and one local man named Darlington and Asif Ali, respectively.

    FIA Additional Director Shahid Hussain said that during the investigation, the suspects said that they duped people by uploading pictures of beautiful girls. They chatted with different men and then looted them by asking them for dollars.

    As per the FIA, “They force youngsters and women to send them inappropriate pictures and then blackmail them.”

    Earlier, FIA booked model Ifrah Khan on charges of blackmailing a businessman and demanding extortion of millions from him.

  • Justice Ayesha Malik makes history, first woman judge elevated to the Supreme Court

    Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed has nominated Justice Ayesha A. Malik for the elevation to the Supreme Court, tweeted senior journalist Hasnaat Malik.

    Justice Ayesha will be the first woman judge in the history of Pakistan to be elevated to the Supreme Court.

    She will become the first woman Chief Justice of Pakistan after Justice Yahya’s retirement in January 2030.

    Justice Ayesha A. Malik is one of the only two women judges in the 40 esteemed judges of the Lahore High Court. According to Women in Law, a group working for equal opportunities for women lawyers in Pakistan, only 15 per cent of women judges are part of the Pakistani judiciary.

    Justice Ayesha Malik’s name came to fame after her landmark judgment against the ‘two-finger test’ or two-finger virginity test of sexual assault survivors.

    Justice Ayesha Malik, 54, received her early education from Karachi Grammar School and her LLM degree from Harvard Law School in the United States, after which she returned to Karachi to practice law.

    As per reports, the 20-year-old Kork Akbar was getting married to his fiancee last month when Kork’s girlfriend showed up at the wedding.

    Kork Akbar’s fiancee allowed Akbar to marry his girlfriend after which the boy married both at the same time.

    The couple told that Akbars’s girlfriend got the news of his marriage from social media.

    Celebrities Ayesha Omar and Yasir Hussain are set to reunite on-screen after their successful film, Karachi Se Lahore. As per reports, the movie titled The Untold Story of a Serial Killer: Javed Iqbal has been written and directed by Abu Aleeha.

    The Jhooti actor will be playing the role of the Serial Killer while the Zindagi Gulzar Hai diva will be playing the role of a cop.

    Javed Iqbal murdered over a hundred children after assaulting them, upon his conviction he was sentenced to die in a manner similar to that in which he had tortured and killed his victims.

    The film will release in 2022.

  • PM Khan not ‘waiting’ for a phone call from President Joe Biden

    Prime Minister Imran Khan, while talking to foreign journalists at his residence on Wednesday night, said he was not “waiting” for a phone call from United States (US) President Joe Biden.

    “I keep hearing that President Biden hasn’t called me. Well, it’s his option. If he wants to call or not it’s his business. If he thinks it’s necessary or not. Not that I am waiting for any phone call,” he said in response to a question from Reuters journalist, Gibran Peshimam.

    PM Khan’s comments come after National Security Adviser (NSA) Moeed Yusuf had said that Pakistan has other options if Joe Biden continues to ignore the country’s leadership.

    While speaking to Finacial Times (FT), Yusuf categorically said, “If a phone call is a concession, if a security relationship is a concession, Pakistan has options.”

    “We’ve been told every time that . . . [the phone call] will happen, it’s technical reasons or whatever. But frankly, people don’t believe it,” Yusuf added.

    The prime minister also talked about the current situation in Afghanistan, its impact on Pakistan, and the withdrawal of US troops.

    PM Khan further said, “The only solution to Afghan problem is the formation of an inclusive government through a political settlement.”

    He said the prevailing situation in Afghanistan could lead to a civil war in the country resultantly making us suffer being the immediate neighbour. He said it could also affect our geo-economic agenda of improving trade links with Central Asia.

    Prime Minister said, ” Pakistan is ready to work with any government in Afghanistan that is elected by its people.” He once again made it clear that we have no favourites in Afghanistan.

    A Lahore man was sent to jail for not telling his second wife about his first marriage, Samaa News reported.

    Arfah Naz has alleged that Rehmat Ali had not revealed his first marriage and she got married to him thinking he is single.

    The woman registered an FIR against Rehmat at the Shahdara police station when she came to know two days after the marriage that the latter was already married and had children too.

    She demanded that Rehmat should be booked for deceiving her. A district court sent him to jail on judicial remand.

    Section 6(5) of the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance, 1961 states that a man has to submit written permission from his first wife if he wishes to marry for the second time. If a man violates the law, then he may be jailed for a year.

  • Fawad Chaudhry clarifies stance on Noor’s murder coverage

    Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has clarified his stance on Noor Mukadam’s murder coverage. Fawad made a comment regarding the social media outrage after the murder of Noor Mukadam, while addressing a press conference along with National Security Adviser Moeed Yusuf.

    During the press conference, Fawad Chaudhry — while referring to Noor Mukadam’s murder case — said that a campaign was designed through social media to show that Pakistan is an unsafe country for women, adding that Indian channel WION made videos on Noor murder case of hundreds of minutes to portray that Pakistan is not a safe country for women.

    Chaudhry received backlash on social media for his comments, after which The Current reached out to him for his comment on the matter. “There is an Indian channel WION, which made 3O videos on how unsafe Pakistan is for women, and see this case [Noor Mukadam murder] has happened in Pakistan. This is how [Indian channels] make the issues bigger and create a [specific] narrative,” said the information minister while speaking exclusively to The Current.

    Noor Mukadam was murdered on July 20 in Islamabad. Noor’s murder sparked outrage in the country and many protests and vigils were held in Pakistan and abroad subsequently and the story was covered by all major news outlets in the world including CNN, BBC, The Guardian and The New York Times.

  • Noor Mukadam reportedly raped before murder, forensic report

    The forensic report prepared by Punjab Forensic Agency has revealed that Zahir Jaffer raped and tortured Noor before murdering her, SAMAA has reported. The report has been submitted to the Islamabad police.

    As per Punjab Forensic Agency the CCTV footage obtained from Zahir Jaffer’s house showed both him and Noor Mukadam in the same premises and Jaffer’s fingerprints were present on the murder weapon.

    Postmortem examination of Noor’s dead body was conducted 12 hours after her murder.

    Earlier, Investigators in Noor Mukadam’ s murder case who are checking the call logs of Zahir’s mother — Asmat Jaffer , revealed that Asmat called the head of Trillium Information Security Systems, a private Rawalpindi-based security firm, several times on the day of Noor’s gruesome murder on July 20, reports Zahid Gishkori for The News.

    District and sessions court in the Federal Capital on Monday extended the judicial remand of Zahir Jaffer’s parents till August 23 in the Noor Mukadam murder case.Interior Minister Sheikh has announced that Zahir Jaffer and his parents’ names have been placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).
