  • Do you know which Pakistani actress starred in Bollywood hit Animal?

Do you know which Pakistani actress starred in Bollywood hit Animal?

Indian film ‘Animal’ was a weird creature, a film without a script or a story but lots of pointless action and misogyny.

Many people do not know that a Pakistani actress also acted in the film, directed by Sandeep Reddy, albeit in a small role.

Geo Digital spoke to UK-based Pakistani actress Shafina Patel Shah, who played actor Bobby Deol’s second wife in Animal.

She was initially offered the role of Deol’s third wife, which was eventually played by Indian actress Mansi Tuksak.

When asked how she got the role in the film, she said, “One day I received a message asking me to audition for a role in an Indian film.”

“Last year I was in Peshawar in Pakistan when I received a message that there is a Bollywood film in which there is a role. Will you do this role?”

She continued, “I replied to the message that I had no objection and that I would do the role.”

She further added, “I had also sent the audition tape and I didn’t get any response for a week. One day they replied that you have been finalized for the role.”

She said, “I had auditioned for the role of Bobby Deol’s character Abrar Haq’s third wife, but I was selected to play the second wife.”

The Persian song Jamal Jamalo, featured in the film, was also very popular in both India and Pakistan. However, an unusual incident occurred on the set during the filming of the song.

Shafina narrates: “When we were shooting Jamal Jamalo, there was a scene with Bobby Deol where, on the wedding day, he gouged out the eyes of his informant in front of all the guests. A lot of fake blood was used in the scene. While filming, a girl in the junior cast collapsed and fainted. Thank God she’s fine now, but we were shocked to witness this. Animal was also criticized for its violent scenes.”

Shafina has also worked with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan in an advertisement a few years ago. About the experience, she told Geo Digital, “When I saw King Khan for the first time, my heart started racing. He came up to me and asked, ‘How are you?’ I replied, ‘I’m fine, how are you?’ But the truth is, my heartbeats were abnormally fast.”

She also shared, “I played the role of an agent of the Indian secret agency RAW in a film with Tiger Shroff, but this film has been shelved for now.”

Jerusalem Post article is ‘propaganda’, says Imran Khan

Founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has rejected the accusation that he supports dialogue with Israel and declared a The Jerusalem Post article which said he is central to establishing good relations between the countries propaganda against him.

Speaking with journalists at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, the former Prime Minister clarified that critics misinterpreted the article due to a “lack of understanding of English.”

He asserted, “They (critics) are making it seem like I am the biggest supporter of talks with Israel.”

He remarked that Israel, before considering dialogue, must announce a ceasefire in Gaza first and strive for a two-state solution.

Responding to questions about PTI’s next rally to be held in Rawalpindi, he said that if permission were denied, they (the party) would stage protests.

Criticising the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), he claimed, “They are giving extensions to the very people ensuring that the truth about the May 9 CCTV footage and electoral fraud never comes to light.”

The Jerusalem Post, one of Israel’s most widely-read newspapers, declared Imran Khan a central figure in normalising Pak-Israel ties.

An article written by Harry Richer asserted, “Figures like Khan could very well be central in changing both public opinion and military policy” for Pak-Israel ties.

  • Sajal Aly’s acting in ‘Zard Patton Ka Bunn’ has made a fan out of Shamoon Abbasi

Sajal Aly’s acting in ‘Zard Patton Ka Bunn’ has made a fan out of Shamoon Abbasi

Actor and director Shamoon Abbasi is known for not mincing his words and giving straightforward opinions.

Abbasi is part of ‘Kya Drama Hai’ which airs on Channel 24, where he praised Sajal Aly’s acting in the drama serial ‘Zard Patton Ka Bunn’ in his usual no-holds barred style.

Sajal Aly is playing the character of Meenu in the drama, written by Mustafa Afridi and directed by Safie Hassan.

Shamoon said, “Sajal, my child, you know how much I love you, she is like my family, she actually belongs to my family. From the very beginning, I have been working with her. You can even see her now, a little bit, peeking over my shoulder. Sajal has always been very dear to me. When she started working, I respected her from day one because even as a young girl, the way she elevated her roles was impressive. I always thought she was very serious about her work.”

“Every month some actor from India says something about Sajal and praises her. I say, when Allah gives someone respect, no matter what you do, Allah has given Sajal a lot of respect, not just as an actor, but as a person as well. She is such a sweet person – no controversies, no problems, no issues, no unnecessary talk. She doesn’t make statements or do anything like that. I think she is a very professional actor. Forever, whatever she does, it’s always great.”

  • Not so fast, Supreme Court: Election Commission to hold meeting today to discuss response to verdict

Not so fast, Supreme Court: Election Commission to hold meeting today to discuss response to verdict

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is to hold another meeting today to consult a legal expert on how to respond to the Supreme Court’s (SC) recent verdict regarding the allocation of reserved seats to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the National Assembly and provincial assemblies.

The Commission has been conducting meetings on a daily basis since last week to discuss the legal quandary arising after the parliament passed the Election Amendment Act 2024, Informed sources told Dawn.

It further claimed, “But the situation has changed after the announcement of the detailed judgement of the Supreme Court, and the commission will meet again on Tuesday to seek the opinion of the legal expert.”

Earlier, the ECP’s law wing claimed that PTI had no organisational structure and refused to allocate reserved seats to PTI.

On August 8, President Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari signed the Election Amendments Act 2024, which ultimately clashes with the Supreme Court’s July 12, 2024 reserved seats verdict.

Election Amendment Act 2024 stated, “If a political party fails to submit its list for reserved seats within the prescribed time, it will not be entitled to reserved seats of women and non-muslims candidates.

Last week, Speaker of National Assembly (NA) Ayaz Sadiq penned a letter to Chief ECP Sikander Sultan Raja, which reads, “The amended Elections Act is in the field and, therefore, it is the statutory obligation of the ECP to honour the laws made by Parliament and uphold the principles of democracy and parliamentary supremacy.”

  • ‘I’m already quite late for marriage,’ says Ali Rehman Khan

‘I’m already quite late for marriage,’ says Ali Rehman Khan

Actor Ali Rehman Khan says that the pressure to marry early is greater on women than on men.

He recently appeared as a guest on ‘Fuchsia Magazine’ where he discussed societal pressures on not getting married.

“I think men also face social pressure to marry, but my parents didn’t put any pressure on me,” he said.

“Yes, it is too late for my marriage, but whenever I get married, I will do it of my own free will,” he added.

He also pointed out that society, ‘especially aunties,’ puts a lot of pressure to marry, and questions about marriage are always asked.

“But I think that women face more pressure than men if they get married late,” he said.

“Marriage is a wonderful relationship, everyone should consider it, but it should be done when the person feels ready and is responsible.”

He added, “I think our social system marriage is also a problem. I don’t want to say it but now, joint family system is not good for newly wed couples.”

“This is my point of view, I don’t want to impose it on others but I think newlyweds should spend at least one or two years away from their family. Husband and wife should spend time with each other so that both of them can understand each other,” Ali Rehman Khan explained.
