    OGDCL discovers gas reserves in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

    Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday that gas reserves had been found in Tolanj West-02, a development well in the Tal block situated in Kohat Plateau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

    According to Brecorder, gas condensate from the Lockhart formation was found in Tolanj West-2 by the Tal joint venture, which included MOL Pakistan (operator), OGDCL, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL), and Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL).

    According to the notice, the well was spudded in on April 10, 2022, to extract hydrocarbon from the Tolanj West D&PL’s Lumshiwal Formation, which has already been found, and to investigate the hydrocarbon potential of the Lockhart, Shinawari, and Samanasuk Formations (as exploratory targets). The well was successfully drilled to a depth of 4119.34 metres, according to OGDCL.

    The Lockhart Formation (exploratory target) was tested successfully at a rate of about 8.3 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas and 34 barrels per day (bpd) of condensate at choke size 32/64” at wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 1285 pounds per square inch, according to interpretation results of wireline logs data (Psi). According to OGDCL, the recent discovery has reduced the risk of an exploratory play in the Tal block, opening up new potential for growth.

    The aforementioned development, which follows a comparable hydrocarbon discovery in the Tal block in August, will also add to the hydrocarbon reserves base of the company, its joint venture partners, and the nation. It will also help improve the energy security of the country by utilising indigenous resources. OGDCL first reported the discovery of oil and gas reserves from its exploration wells in Sindh and Punjab back in June.

    High Court orders that terror charges against Imran Khan be dropped

    The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered government authorities to drop terror charges against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in a case pertaining to alleged threats made against police officials and a female judge.

    Khan was booked in a case under the section of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) for threatening remarks against Additional Sessional Judge Zeba Chaudhry and officials of the Islamabad Police during a rally in Islamabad on August 20.

    Earlier, PTI approached the high court to grant Khan transit bail, but at the time the court had directed the former premier to approach an ATC since it was a terror case.

    On September 14, Khan appeared before Islamabad Police’s Joint Investigation Team (JIT) for questioning in connection with a terrorism case registered against him.

    Talking about the case there, he said, “This is a joke in front of the entire world. Why? Because everyone knows me, there have been headlines across the world that an FIR (first information report) has been registered against Imran Khan on terrorism charges.”

    Last week, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) extended Khan’s interim pre-arrest bail till September 20 in the terrorism case.

    It is pertinent to mention that the PTI chairman, since the registration of the case, has repeatedly been granted bail by the court.

    A father in Karachi allegedly burnt his 12-year-old son alive in Karachi’s Orangi Town by pouring kerosene oil on him.

    Shaheer, the 12-year-old boy, succumbed to his injuries after spending two days in the hospital.

    As per the details, the father of the child Nazir Khan stopped him from kite flying but Shaheer went on to do the same. It made the father angry, and he questioned his son about his studies and homework.

    The boy failed to satisfy his father with his answer after which Nazir poured kerosene oil and thinner on him.

    To further scare him, Nazir also lit up a matchstick and threw it on Shaheer which set him on fire.

    Police have arrested the accused after the mother of the deceased filed a complaint against the father.

    ‘Don’t bypass me’: IK warns party members against meeting the establishment without his knowledge

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has warned his party members to not “bypass” him to meet the establishment.

    His remarks came during the PTI core committee meeting, in which he said that he is aware that some PTI members are in contact with the establishment and issued the warning that no one should bypass him.

    It has been reported that Imran Khan was visibly angry at the meeting, lashing out at the unnamed party members.

    He instructed his party members to clearly inform and get approval from him before establishing any contact.

    The PTI chairman directed core committee members to tweet according to PTI policy. He gave charge of implementing party policy to senior leader and former minister Shireen Mazari.

    “People are more active in the campaign against the government than party’s bodies,” Imran Khan said adding that there is a possibility that people may outpace the efforts of PTI bodies.

    He instructed core committee members to play an effective role in the upcoming long march in Islamabad.

    Pakistan bowling coach and former Australian pacer Shaun Tait has heaped praise on his young bowlers, singling out right-arm pacer Naseem Shah who he said reminds him of his younger self.

    With Pakistan England series and ICC men’s T20 world cup 2022 just around the corner, Tait lauded Pakistan’s pacers’ energy.

    “Pakistan fast bowlers have their natural abilities. They like to keep things simple but they’ve got so much ability and have a lot of flair. So, that’s already ingrained in these guys,” he said.

    Admiring the emerging pacer Naseem Shah, he said, “In some ways, he reminds me of myself when I was a younger cricketer. He’s sort of free-spirited. But I wasn’t as intelligent. I think you’ve all seen his natural abilities and skill with the new ball.”

    Speaking about another paceman, Haris Rauf, who seemed at his absolute best in Asia Cup 2022, Tait said, “He’s got the pace, he’s got the swing, he’s got the aggression, all that stuff and we just talked about being more consistent in his areas and bowling in the right areas that were going to make it difficult for the batsman and be more consistent doing that. We worked and we talked about his death bowling a lot and worked on his death bowling as well but they’re just the usual things.”

    Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders, Federal Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and PML-N central leader Javed Latif, have been booked in terror cases in Punjab.

    The two have been accused of allegedly “using religion to instill and spread hatred” against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and former prime minister Imran Khan.

    Punjab Home Minister Hashim Dogar shared on Twitter the First Information Report (FIR) filed against the PML-N leaders.

    Pakistan Television Managing Director Sohail Khan and controller programme Rashid Baig have also been nominated in the case. The complaint said that a press conference in which Imran Khan was accused, was shown on national television.

    Taking to Twitter, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said, “Using religion card against PML-N and other opponents is as bad by any PTI follower as it is for others.”

    “We demand not to use religious hatred campaigns against our leadership or opponents,” tweeted Fawad.

    Latif had accused the PTI chief of “attacking the basic principles of Islam” by “supporting” the Ahmediyya community during his tenure.

    “When Imran made Naya Pakistan, units of Qadianis became active in Karachi […] Did Imran not give interviews to the foreign media in which he said that Qadianis will be given religious freedom,” Latif had asked.

    ‘Elections, appointment of new COAS, Punjab govt’: Sharif brothers discuss it all in London

    Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo, Nawaz Sharif, in London on Sunday, September 18.

    According to media reports, both brothers had a thorough discussion on various matters, ranging from a time frame of general elections, to the appointment of the next army chief and to the Punjab government.

    The Sharif brothers agreed that the present coalition government will complete its constitutional term. Despite being under pressure from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to announce snap polls, PML-N leadership decided that general elections “should be held at the stipulated time”.

    Both Nawaz and Shehbaz pondered over making changes to the Punjab government, and the name of former Chief Minister Punjab and son of Shehbaz, Hamza Shehbaz, among other possible candidates, was considered for the post of the province’s chief minister. The provincial capital of Lahore has been awash with rumors of a change within Punjab parliament that could derail PTI and PML-Q coalition government.

    The matter of important appoi­nt­ments due in November also came under discussion, including the Chief of Army Staff (COAS). The current COAS, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, is due for retirement at the end of November this year.

    The Sharifs had a three-hour meeting at Hussain Nawaz’s office in Stanhope House. The meeting, the brothers’ second in London since Shehbaz became PM, was also attended by former finance minister Ishaq Dar and Shehbaz’s son Suleman.

    According to reports, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb did not participate in the meeting.

    Covid Vaccination of children aged 5-12 begins

    The Covid-19 vaccination programme for childern aged 5 to 12 has begun.

    The vaccination drive will continue through September 24 to immunise kids between the ages of 5 and 12 against Covid-19, according to health officials.

    In its letter to parents, the NIH stated that Covid-19 immunisation protects kids against contracting the virus.

    Data entries for the vaccination will be made from the B-form of a child.

    Covid vaccines for children aged 5 to 12 now available

    The Ministry of Health has decided to provide COVID-19 inoculation to children aged five years to 12 years. However, parental approval is required for the inoculation.

    According to the health ministry, the immunisation program will begin on September 19 across Sindh, Punjab, and Islamabad.

    “Children will also be able to receive COVID-19 jabs in schools and they will be vaccinated after the consent of their parents,” said the ministry.

    “Children’s registration in National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is mandatory for the vaccination and entry will be made through B-form,” said District Health Officer Rawalpindi, Ahsan Ghani while talking to Geo News.

    Woman in Iran beaten to death by police for allegedly not wearing headscarf properly

    A 22-year-old Iranian woman breathed her last on Friday, days after being arrested by a police unit responsible for forcing Iran’s strict dress code for women. She was arrested for not complying with hijab rules.

    According to eyewitnesses, Mahsa Amini was beaten while inside a police van when she was picked up in Tehran on Tuesday.
    Photographs of the Mahsha lying in a hospital bed have gone viral, showing the young woman in a coma with her head wrapped in bandages and breathing through tubes.

    Police Claim:

    Police have denied the allegations of beating her to death saying Ms Amini had “suddenly suffered a heart problem”.
    However her father has denied the claims made by police. “Authorities have said my daughter suffered from chronic medical conditions. I personally deny such claims as my daughter was fit and had no health problems,” Amini’s father told pro-reform Emtedad news website on Sunday.

    Protests:

    MahsaAmini became one of the top hashtags on Persian-language Twitter on Sunday as Iranians fumed over the death of Amini. The hashtag had gained 1.63 million mentions on Twitter by Sunday afternoon.

    As enraged citizens took to the streets to protest, at least 30 persons were injured. People are protesting against strict Iranian hijab laws and against the existence of “guidance patrol.”
