All-time sporting great Serena Williams to retire from tennis after US Open

The 23-time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams, stated on Tuesday morning that she will conclude her illustrious tennis career after competing in the US Open starting later this month.

In her post-match press conference at the Canadian Open, Serena Williams broke the bombshell that she would be retiring, saying she could ‘see the light at the end of the tunnel’.

At the hard-court competition in Toronto on Monday, the 40-year-old defeated Nuria Parrizas Diaz 6-3 6-4 to win her first singles match in 430 days.

TTP leader Omar Khalid Khorasani killed in Afghanistan

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) senior commander Omar Khalid Khorasani has been killed in the Paktika province of Afghanistan.

“A vehicle reportedly carrying TTP Mohmand chief Omar Khalid Khorasani, aka Abdul Wali Mohmand, Mufti Hassan, and Hafiz Dawlat Khan, was targeted in Sharki village, near Margha, in Bermal district of Paktika province,” one Afghan official told The Express Tribune.

Omar’s real name was Abdul Wali Mohmand and he previously headed the TTP in the Mohmand Agency bordering Afghanistan.

It is pertinent to mention here that Omar was a member of the TTP team involved in negotiations with Pakistani officials, Pashtun jirgas, and recently with religious scholars over the past few weeks.

According to Dawn, in July 2017, one of the UN Security Council’s sanctions committees, upon Pakistan’s request, approved the addition of Jamaat-ul-Ahrar to the list of entities and individuals subject to the assets freeze, travel ban, and arms embargo.

The United States added Omar’s name to the US State Department’s Rewards for Justice wanted list in March 2018. The US had announced a reward of up to $3 million for information on him.

What’s the confusion around Imran Khan posting a picture of his relatives at the Round Table Conference in 1930?

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan is being called out by netizens for misrepresenting the truth after he shared a photograph with two of his relatives present at the 1930 Round Table Conference.

Khan posted a photograph on social media on August 8, and wrote: “The historic Round Table Conference London 1930 with both Quaid i Azam & Allama Iqbal present.”

“The picture is pride of my family because my grandfather’s brother Mohammad Zaman Khan (after whom Zaman Park was named) and my khaloo Jahangir Khan were also present (second and third from left).”

Netizens were quick to point out that neither of the two relatives mentioned by Khan was ever present at the Round Table Conference and that Khan had mixed up the relations.

However, after much debate, it has also been assumed that the picture in question could have been from another event and not the Round Table Conference itself. There were three Round Table Conferences from 1930 to 1932. The picture shared by Khan was from sometime between 1930 and 1934 in London and happened to be from a dinner that also had Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal in attendance.

PTI moves August 13 rally to Lahore from Islamabad

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to move the venue of its August 13 public rally to Lahore from Islamabad.

The rally will be held at Lahore Hockey Ground on the night of August 13. PTI’s focal person Azhar Mashwani said, “PTI and the proud Pakistanis of Lahore will celebrate the 75th Independence Day in a grand manner at Hockey Stadium Lahore,” adding that Imran Khan will specially attend and address the occasion.

PTI leader Omar Ayub stated the PTI had been given permission for the rally at Islamabad’s Parade Ground. “But at the last moment, we found out that the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) wanted to hold a protest there and it could have created problems.”

“Hence, we came to the conclusion that Lahore is the best location for the rally,” he added.

The development came after Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah warned the PTI leadership that they will not be allowed to create chaos and that only a peaceful rally in Islamabad will be allowed.

He said that PTI will be allowed to stage a peaceful rally, otherwise it will face treatment far worse than May 25.

On Monday, it was reported that TLP is set to gather at Faizabad on August 13 the same day as PTI was holding its public rally.

PTI plans to stay overnight at Parade Ground on Independence Day

Earlier, PTI said that the party would stay overnight at Islamabad’s Parade Ground between August 13 and 14.

The decision was made by PTI political committee that the public gathering will be held at Parade Ground on August 13.

Former Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said that the PTI workers would gather at the Parade Ground in the evening on Saturday (August 13) for the rally and will stay there until August 14 to commemorate Independence Day.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Chaudhry said that the “imported government” is running away from elections but the people will not let them run away.

“On August 13, the entire nation will gather at Parade Ground in support of Imran Khan to hear the future roadmap,” he wrote, urging the party supporters to gear up for the final level. “It is either election or revolution.”

The public gathering was reportedly being held to pressurise the government into announcing fresh elections in the country.

Last week, PTI staged a protest at Islamabad’s F9 Park against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja.

  • Why did Kim Kardashian split with Pete Davidson?

Why did Kim Kardashian split with Pete Davidson?

American magazine Page 6 has exclusively revealed that reality television star and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian and comedian Pete Davidson’s age difference caused them to split earlier this month.

“Pete is 28 and Kim is 41 — they are just in very different places at the moment,” the insider says.

“Pete is totally spontaneous and impulsive and wants her to fly to New York, or wherever he is on a moment’s notice,” the source adds. “But Kim has four kids and it isn’t that easy. She needs to focus on the kids.”

The source also tells us that Kardashian — who runs multiple businesses and stars on a reality show — was “totally exhausted by this relationship and other things going on in her life.”

The “Kardashians” star has recently had a tumultuous relationship with ex Kanye West, which caused strife while she was dating the “SNL” alum.

Why Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson broke up

The insider explained, “When Kim is with someone else, Kanye can cause problems with the kids. He tries to divide and conquer. He can’t help it.

“Kim is a really dedicated mother, and her kids will always come first. She wants and needs harmony at home and in her life.”

Earlier this year, a fan embarrassed the reality television star while she was heading out from her movie date with Davidson, whom she started dating in November 2021 after filing for divorce from rapper Kanye West.
