PCB refuses to issue NOC to Haris Rauf for Big Bash League

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has refused to issue a No Objection Letter (NOC) to national fast bowler Haris Rauf for the Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia. Despite interest from several teams, he was not selected because of the NOC policy.

The fast bowler had requested a special NOC for the Big Bash League from the PCB, but the board rejected his request.

PCB responded that he has played in two leagues, Major League Cricket (MLC) and The Hundred, so NOC cannot be given now. The Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunders were keen to sign him in BBL.

PCB did not issue NOCs to other cricketers, including Babar Azam and Saim Ayub, due to the Champions Cup. However, PCB issued NOCs to Usama Mir for Big Bash.

  • Man convicted for sharing unwell wife’s explicit photos on Whatsapp

Man convicted for sharing unwell wife’s explicit photos on Whatsapp

A local court in Karachi has sentenced a man to nine years in prison for sharing explicit images of his cancer-stricken wife on WhatsApp.

The court declared Syed Faizan guilty of the offences under Sections 20 (dignity of natural person), 21 (modesty of natural person and minor), 24 (cyberstalking) of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 and awarded him three-year imprisonment on every offence.

Additionally, Faizan was fined Rs90,000. In case of default, the convict will have to undergo an additional three-month imprisonment.

    Observations of the court

“This action [of the accused] aimed at shaming and blackmailing the victim and her family, underscores the accused’s intent to exert psychological pressure and manipulate the victim, especially during a vulnerable period in her life when she was battling cancer,” the court observed.

The judge stressed that the impact on the victim and her family had been profound, causing emotional distress, reputational damage and further deteriorating the victim’s already deteriorating health.

The court also observed that the motive of the accused behind sharing these photos is “appeared to be rooted in a pattern of control, exploitation, and intimidation directed towards the victim”.

“After their marriage, the accused consistently demanded money and misappropriated the victim’s dowry, including substantial amounts of cash and gold. Abusive behaviour intensified over time, culminating in the accused’s deliberate act of sharing explicit images of the victim with her brother,” the judgment noted.

In her testimony in court, the victim stated that she got married in 2019; however, her husband’s behaviour was abusive. She also claimed that the accused demanded dowry, including Rs500,000 in cash and 30 tolas of gold. After she confronted him, the accused further threatened her with maltreatment while she was battling cancer. In February 2022, the victim left her husband’s house and returned to her parents’ home.

The brother of the victim lodged a complaint against his brother-in-law.

The complainant informed the FIA Cyber Crime Cell that in March 2022, he had received obscene images of his sister on his WhatsApp number sent by Faizan to harm the reputation of his family and to blackmail him and his sister. Consequently, the FIA team apprehended him and seized his mobile phone, in which obscene material was found.

While the victim’s lawyer stated in court that no consistency has been found in the testimonies of prosecution witnesses and that the forensic report matched the ocular version of the complainant and his witnesses. The report clearly showed the transmission of explicit images from the accused to the complainant (then deleted).

However, the defence counsel contended that the complainant falsely implicated his client in this case while the images in the forensic report were blurry.

However, the court rejected the defence plea and noted that the defence failed to produce evidence to support its claims.

Motion to expel illegal immigrants from Sindh passes unanimously

The Sindh Provincial Assembly on Tuesday passed the “substantive motion” unanimously demanding that authorities expel illegal immigrants of other countries from the province.

The motion tabled by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) lawmaker Heer Soho read, “This Assembly is of the opinion that illegal immigrants residing in the Province Of Sindh belonging to other countries be extradited to their original countries.”

However, the Sindh Assembly atmosphere heated up after Soho’s discriminatory comments on the Bihari community, terming them alien.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leadership strongly condemned Soho’s remarks, which were ultimately expunged from the proceeding at the request of Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Zia Lanjar.

A member of MQM-P from Orangi town responded to Soho’s speech by stating that the Bihari community migrated twice to their homeland, Pakistan.

“I am proud of being Bihari, and we cannot be termed illegal immigrants,” he concluded.

  • Did Babar Azam take retirement from Test cricket?

Did Babar Azam take retirement from Test cricket?

A post about Babar Azam’s retirement from Test cricket after individual scores of 31 and 11 in both innings in the second Test match against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, has gained immense attention on X (formerly Twitter).

A slightly detailed retirement announcement post is circulating on social media with the message ‘Khuda Hafiz Test Cricket’ and a thumbprint from Babar Azam’s parody account. Two such posts on Monday surprised cricket fans, but both posts had nothing to do with reality.

Pakistan cricket team’s batting star, Babar Azam, is under heavy criticism on social media platforms after poor performances in international cricket.

Moreover, his batting last year failed to produce any victories for Pakistan. As a result, social media users have been targeting him with often offensive memes, and now fake posts related to his retirement have gone viral.

Babar Azam stepped down as captain after ODI World Cup 2023 but was reinstated for the T20 World Cup 2024.

His recent form in Test cricket has been disappointing. He has scored just 190 runs at an average of 19 in his last 10 innings, while his average in the 50-over format has dropped to 34 a year earlier. Meanwhile, the 29-year-old cricketer has maintained an average of 38 in T20 cricket.

Under Babar’s captaincy, Pakistan exited from the T20 World Cup 2024 group stage after losing against the USA and India.
