Man poisons wife, children to death in Thar

A man killed his wife and children after poisoning them and later committed suicide on November 29 in the area of Tharparkar.

Local police recovered five bodies from a house in Koya village of Nangarparkar, a suburb of Tharparkar, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

The initial report by the police reveals that the man allegedly poisoned his three children and wife before committing suicide by hanging himself.

The deceased include a husband, wife, one daughter and two sons, as per the report.
Police say that the bodies have been shifted to Tehsil Hospital Nagarparkar while an investigation into the incident has been initiated.

According to the initial investigation, the head of the house, Shankar, first poisoned his wife and children and then committed suicide by hanging himself.

Upon receiving information about the incident, a police team was dispatched towards the spot as the village where the incident had happened is remote.

However, the SHO of Nagarparkar asserted that more details will be revealed when the police team returns.

A report suggests that the number of incidents declared as suicide in Tharparkar-a, a region plagued by poverty, limited sources and water this year alone, has reached 135.

A similar incident happened in Lahore when the head of a household in the Shahdara Town area fed poisonous pills to his family on August 28.

Local police at the time of the incident said that the suspect fed poisonous pills to seven people, including his wife and children.

However, the family was saved by timely medical assistance.

The man said in his statement that he tried to poison his family because of poverty.

“There is not a grain of food in the house, rent has not been paid for seven months. Tired of poverty, I poisoned my wife, children and myself,” he stated.

Crypto entrepreneur eats banana artwork he bought for $6.2m

Chinese entrepreneur Justin Sun ate a banana artwork which he bought at an auction for $6.2 million.

According to foreign media, Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan had taped a fresh banana to the wall of an art gallery, which was being called artwork.

Justin Sun, a Chinese-born cryptocurrency founder, bought it for $6.2 million (About 2.5 billion Pakistani rupees).

Justin described the Italian artist’s artwork as “iconic” on Friday at a luxury hotel in Hong Kong and ate the banana bought for billions of rupees in front of journalists and influencers.

After eating the banana, Justin Sun said, “This is much better than other bananas, it’s really good.”

Immediately after winning the auction last week, Mr Sun announced his plan to eat the fruit to make it part of the history of the artwork.

He also said, “It is not just a work of art, it represents a cultural phenomenon that connects the worlds of art, memes and the cryptocurrency community.”

Each participant at the event on Friday was given a banana and a roll of duct tape as souvenirs.

  • PIA’s comeback: Ban reversal opens European skies, new opportunities

PIA’s comeback: Ban reversal opens European skies, new opportunities

The board of directors for airline companies set their eyes on Europe as it opened its metaphorical doors to them. This good news comes as Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) was finally able to comply with the safety standards of the European Union Aviation Safety Standards (EUASA) after four grueling years.

The ban was initially imposed due to the results of a post-crash investigation, that claimed the lives of approximately 100 people, revealing that around 40 per cent of PIA pilots were flying with forged licenses.

The truth is, when PIA flight 8303 crashed in Karachi, it took the whole company down with it. PIA lost the rights to fly to various high traffic destinations such as the United States, Canada and the European Union (EU), to name a few. While most bans didn’t stick, the EU remained adamant to keep PIA on its ‘blacklist’.

However, with the ban being reversed, PIA stands to benefit immensely from the new revenue stream. After PIA had been blacklisted, the company suffered a loss of 40 billion rupees as per Reuters. However, it will be an easy task for PIA to capture their customers back.

According to Geo News, ticket fares from United Kingdom to Pakistan skyrocketed by a staggering 300 per cent after PIA was banned from operating flights to the country. Airlines that could still run flights to Pakistan were able to raise prices of tickets as PIA was not around to put up any competition.

However, with PIA resuming flights, airfares from the EU to Pakistan are expected to drop to more reasonable levels. There is another reason behind experts predicting airfares to drop though: EUASA has allowed Air Blue to operate flights to Europe too. According to the principles of basic economics, it is evident that the increased supply of commercial flights will drive prices down.

Aside from the executives of airline companies, lawmakers in Islamabad are also pleased about PIA’s resumption of services. Investors were not particularly interested in purchasing a company that was crippled due to not being able to operate flights to numerous countries.

Financial experts certainly believe that international investors will now be more inclined to purchase PIA off of Islamabad’s hands. However, many are now wondering if it would even be worth considering PIA if the profitable routes open up again.

Local businesses, especially those located at popular tourist destinations, are also pleased with the reversal of the ban, expecting to see a greater number of European tourists flooding into the hotspots.

It is certain that the ban reversal is good for Pakistani businesses. One thing is not certain: If privatizing PIA is still the best course of action.

  • Maham Aamir applauds Hareem Farooq’s bold stance on body positivity

Maham Aamir applauds Hareem Farooq’s bold stance on body positivity

Actor Maham Aamir has praised Hareem Farooq for promoting body positivity through her character Masooma in the TV series Bismil.

In a recent interview, Hareem Farooq shared that she chose not to lose weight through crash diets for her role in ‘Bismil’ because it was affecting her mental health during a tough period in her life. Maham Aamir, wife of actor-host Faizan Sheikh, took to Instagram to applaud Hareem for her honesty about societal pressures.

“Thank you for saying this, Hareem Farooq,” Aamir wrote in response to Hareem’s viral confession.

“Constant pressure to look a certain way isn’t easy for a lot of women in our society,” she added.

“Comments that women face in our everyday life… These are not nice, and trust me, nobody wants to hear how fat/skinny/chubby or different a woman looks.”

“They know what they are going through, please STOP telling them,” Aamir urged, ending with a folded hands emoji.

Earlier, actress and producer Hareem Farooq’s journey in ‘Bismil’ revealed her character’s complexities and her battle with psoriasis.

In a recent interview with BBC Urdu, she discussed her role in the drama.

“I developed a skin condition called psoriasis during the shoot, which caused red spots to appear on my face and other parts of my body. The scars on my face may not look appealing to everyone, but they will encourage others who suffer from the same condition,” she said.

Psoriasis is a condition where the skin cells grow too quickly, causing red, scaly patches on the skin. When asked about her physical transformation, the ’22 Qadam’ actress shared that she initially considered losing weight before shooting ‘Bismil’.

“Before shooting started, I was going through a difficult phase in my life, which caused me to gain weight. I thought about losing it but eventually gave up. I had the option to delay the shoot by months, but I chose not to. I decided to shoot with the weight I had,” Hareem Farooq stated.

When asked about her work in the industry, Hareem explained, “Pakistan doesn’t have a film industry, so the same actors work in both films and dramas. All the other Pakistani actors, including me, work in films out of passion. If the country had a film industry, we wouldn’t have to work in dramas.”

Earlier, in a recent interview with Something Haute hosted by Hassan Choudhary, Hareem Farooq talked about her role in ‘Bismil’.

Hareem Farooq said, “When I first discussed the role of Masooma in ‘Bismil’, my primary focus was to align it with the director’s vision. I always asked the director [Aehsun Talish], ‘How do you see this character?’ I wanted to ensure we were on the same page.”

“The director described Masooma as someone who acts out of innocence, not malice. This resonated with me because I believe people are rarely inherently evil. Their experiences shape their actions. Masooma’s impulsive decisions reflect innocence… where she doesn’t consider long-term consequences… a characteristic I find relatable in real life,” the ‘Bismil’ actress explained.

Talking about Masooma’s intentions, Hareem shared, “I wouldn’t call her a gold digger because it wasn’t just about money. She was also running after security, wanting power, wanting change in her life. She wanted that lifestyle for herself. It’s a very selfish manner, but she cared about securing her future. Once she has something in her grasp, she won’t let go. I think Masooma’s relationship with TT [Nauman Ijaz] is more than just that of a gold digger… she is a selfish person, but not just running after money.”

‘Bismil’, featuring Hareem Farooq, Nauman Ijaz, Savera Nadeem, and Saad Qureshi, airs every Wednesday and Thursday on ARY Digital.

  • Nabeel Zafar slams award shows

    Nabeel Zafar slams award shows

Actor and producer Nabeel Zafar doesn’t hold back when it comes to award shows.

Appearing as a guest on Faysal Quraishi’s Pressure Buhat Hai podcast, Nabeel expressed frustration with biased award selection process and emphasized the need to honor those who truly deserve recognition.

“For me, awards hold no personal significance. Be it national or private, I view awards as a form of appreciation. However, if the appreciation is discredited toward the wrong individual, it can be upsetting for those who truly deserve it,” he remarked.

The Dhuwan actor raised concerns about the unfairness in the award system, saying, “In our system, there’s so much bias that even when someone receives an accolade like the Pride of Performance, they end up justifying themselves, saying they have no political affiliations or ulterior motives. It makes one think, I believe awards should exist but must go to the deserving ones. After all, real recognition comes directly from the audience, starting the moment you step outside.”

Nabeel shared a special moment that showed him what true recognition really is.

“Recently, I received a call about a child with Down syndrome who wanted to meet me. When we met, he enthusiastically discussed Bulbulay, asking repeatedly about the characters, including Mahmood Sahab and Khoobsurat. His father told me that the child believes the show’s world is real. Moments like these, for me, are the true awards,” the Bulbulay actor shared.

Nabeel looked back at the early days of Bulbulay and shared the challenges they faced in casting Ayesha Omar.

“Casting Ayesha Omar was a challenge. She was transitioning from being a VJ, and many actors hesitated to take on comedy due to its delicate nature—too much, and it seems overdone; too little, and it falls flat. Despite initial skepticism, Ayesha joined, though she often faced criticism from her family about the show’s ‘nonsensical comedy.’ But, as I once assured her, Bulbulay would eventually define her identity,” the Qissa Saat Raaton Ka actor said.

Earlier, Nabeel Zafar appeared as a guest on FHM podcast hosted by Adnan Faisal and shared an exciting story about his on-screen mother and fellow colleague Hina Dilpazeer, who plays the character of Momo in the show.

“When I called Hina, we had previously worked together on the telefilm ‘Burns Road Ki Nilofar,’ which was very successful. In that project, we had scenes together and it was a very good telefilm. People knew ‘Burns Road Ki Nilofar’, so I called her and said, ‘Look, you might be two or four years younger than me, but the role is of a mother.’ To which she said, ‘No, no, no, I will do it’.”

While multiple PTI supporting accounts ran trending hashtags like #گولی_کیوں_چلائی and #IslamabadMassacre.

After PTI began its “final call” towards Islamabad, tensions between law enforcement and protesters ran high, as the federal government deployed the military in Islamabad by invoking Article 245 of the Constitution.

A notification issued by the Interior Ministry said that the army had been authorised to impose a curfew in any locality deemed necessary to maintain law and order.

The opposition leader in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub Khan, on Friday demanded a judicial probe into the recent use of force against protesters in the federal capital.

“The chief justice of Pakistan should constitute a fact-finding committee to bring facts to the fore,” said Omar Ayub who is the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member National Assembly from the Haripur district while talking to reporters in the Peshawar High Court (PHC) where he had turned up to secure a transit bail.

Josh Hazlewood out of second Test match against India

Bad news has come out for the Australian team before the second Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy against India after Josh Hazlewood suffered an injury and got ruled out of the second Test.

Cricket Australia has announced that Shane Abbott and Brendan Doggett have been included in the Australian squad to fill the gap left by Hazlewood, who will be with the team in Adelaide.

The second day-night Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy will be played in Adelaide from December 6, with India leading the five-Test series by one-nil.

On the other hand, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given a strict deadline for Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami to return to the team. Shami has less than a week to convince the selectors to select him for the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

He has recently returned to cricket after an injury and is reportedly being closely monitored by the BCCI medical team.

After an impressive performance in his first Ranji Trophy match for Bengal, Shami will be evaluated in some Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches. It is also reported that Shami needs to lose some weight and regain fitness.

The BCCI medical team feels that he will start losing weight as he continues to play matches, which will help increase his endurance.

The first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 series took place at Optus Stadium in Perth from November 22 to 25, 2024. India delivered a commanding performance, defeating Australia by 295 runs and taking a 1-0 lead in the series.

Despite a valiant effort, the Australian batsmen crumbled, posting 238 in their second innings, with Bumrah taking another 3 wickets for 42 runs. India secured a comprehensive victory, winning by 295 runs.

Government decides to file cases against Ali Amin Gandapur, Bushra Bibi

Prime Minister (PM) Shahbaz Sharif’s government has decided to tighten the noise around founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan’s party leaders by filing cases against them.

Shahbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting on Friday in which it was decided that cases would be lodged against Chief Minister (CM) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Ali Amin Gandapur, and founder PTI Imran Khan’s spouse, Bushra Bibi; both were leading the recent protest march towards the federal capital in which multiple people were killed, including four law-enforcing officers.

“This is not a political party [PTI] but a fitna [mischief] and a group of terrorists,” Shahbaz Sharif said.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir, Punjab’s Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz, federal ministers and other security officials attended the meeting.

After a “final call” given by incarcerated Imran Khan, CM KP Ali Amin Gandapur and former First Lady led a convoy from Peshawar to Islamabad, which started on November 24 and ended on November 26 night after security forces cracked down on the demonstrators.

On Tuesday (November 26) night, grand operations were initiated to disperse the opposition’s biggest party protestors, in which multiple casualties were reported and hundreds of protestors were wounded.

Attendees of the meeting told Dawn News that it was also decided in a top-level meeting to register cases against the PTI leaders and workers who were allegedly involved in the killing of security officials during the recent protest march.

A press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) noted, “Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif established a task force under the chairmanship of Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi to identify the people involved in spreading chaos and violence in Islamabad earlier this week and take strict action against them.”

Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Cheema, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and officials of security departments will also be members of the task force.

Furthermore, it was also decided to modernise the federal capital Safe City project along with strengthening the federal prosecution service. It has been observed that the quality of the project is so poor that its cameras cannot recognise people, particularly at night and when travelling in vehicles.

Previously, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Muhammad Fayyaz submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly secretariat seeking a ban on arch-rivals PTI.

The resolution demands stringent action against former PM Imran Khan’s PTI, labelling the party a “disruptive group” operating under the guise of a political party, and calls for those responsible for the November 24 protests to be brought to justice.

  • We can respond with weapons too: Gandapur warns in fiery speech

We can respond with weapons too: Gandapur warns in fiery speech

Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur gave yet another fiery speech in his first address to the KP Assembly after an unsuccessful party march towards Islamabad saying, “We have fire and ammunition and we can respond with weapons too,” the Premier of the province said.

PTI supporters on social media are angry and disappointed with party leaders for abandoning workers in D-Chowk when security forces started their crackdown on November 26.

Around midnight, the media reported that Gandapur and Imran Khan’s spouse Bushra Bibi, escaped from the capital and went towards Peshawar.

Since then, PTI has claimed that the security forces opened fire on the protestors leading to multiple fatalities – a claim the government denies.

“Be wary of that day if we reply to fire with fire and to ammunition with ammunition; if we abandon peace slogans because we have weapons too. We can take our rights that way as well. Listen to this as well, we do not care about powerful chairs that you could scare us with the threat of Governor Raj. I challenge you to impose Governor Rule here and see if you can stay here,” he challenged.

After Gandapur led the caravan from KP towards Peshawar for its “final call,” rumours quickly spread that the federal government was mulling imposing Governor’s rule in KP.

Ali Amin Gandapur warned the federal government that PTI cannot be “intimidated” by such actions as tensions grow following the late-night crackdown against protesters in Islamabad.

“Release Imran Khan as soon as possible or we will respond to bullets with bullets and then you will see what happens, and you will be responsible for whatever happens,” warned CM KP in his address to the provincial assembly.

The CM also addressed the soldiers of the Pakistan Army, saying, “You must see your children at home, what would their mother think if this happened to them? Allah bestows rizq to every human being, but what you have done for a job, you will not find peace in this world and in this world! Today I pray to Allah that you [soldiers] may find yourself in such pain and hurt that you become an example in history for Allah’s justice in the world who oppressed the people.”

“Let it not happen that we start feeling comfort in killing you. Release Imran Khan, otherwise we have a meeting, prepare a strategy, if we don’t get rights, we will kill for them,” concluded Gandapur.

Gandapur has been heavily criticised by party workers and followers for the perception that he is in touch with the establishment. Party followers tweeted and posted on other social media platforms against Gandapur, dismayed at him leaving party workers on D Chowk while he and Bushra Bibi got passage to safety.
