    Here’s why the Bollywood clip was deleted from PM Khan’s Instagram

    Prime Minister Imran Khan’s official Instagram account on Tuesday became very interesting after a short clip from the Bollywood movie Inquilaab was posted on it leading to a social media meltdown.

    Through the clip, PM Imran attempted to make a point about how political parties discredit their rival political parties in order to replace them.

    “It is what has been planned against the PTI govt from day one by the corrupt mafias,” read the caption on the clip, which was deleted five hours after it was posted.

    Speaking to BBC Urdu, Focal Person to the Prime Minister on Digital Media Dr Arsalan Khalid said that the clip was posted by a member of PM Khan’s social media team because the scenes “accurately reflected the current situation and the unrest of the opposition.”

    Explaining the reason behind the deletion, Dr Arsalan said that a routine quality control check — that takes place after few hours — led to the deletion of the clip.

    When asked if PM Khan personally makes these posts on social media, Dr Khalid said the premier mostly uses Twitter and that all tweets are posted by him, adding that PM Imran rarely uses Instagram and has a team to manage that.

    Released in 1984, Inquilaab featured Amitabh Bachchan, Sridevi, Utpal Dutt, Kader Khan, Ranjeet and Shakti Kapoor. The film’s official synopsis reads: “A politician helps a jobless man become a police officer and then uses him for his nefarious activities. After his wife finds out he is being used as a pawn, she tries to change his ways.”

    In the clip shared on PM Khan’s account, Kader Khan and Utpal Dutt are seen planning a sinister move against the government.

    “We have the right to form a government. In order to form a government, we need to win the elections. To win the elections, we need votes; in order to get these votes, we need people’s confidence. And how do we get the people’s confidence? We will need to take away people’s confidence from the government. Haha. And how do we do that? We will create an environment where we will make them think that this government is incompetent and inefficient. This way, the people will be forced to get rid of the government and bring another party in its place. For this we need to create chaos. We need riots, killings, dacoities in cities. We need religious disturbance, sectarian conflict, which renders government incapable of thinking and police is unable to do anything to control the crisis. When all this is happening, we will go out and take out rallies addressing crowds and present ourselves and our party as an option to control this mess.”

    Responding to this, someone in the meeting says it is an excellent idea.

    “We need money for this, which is why we have invited rich businessmen here today to raise it.”

    When someone asks if 50 lakhs will be enough, Kader Khan says that for the time being it’s enough but a politician is like a farmer and politics like a crop. If you invest millions, the return will be in billions, if billions, it can go up to trillions.”

    22 COVID patients die after oxygen leak in Indian hospital

    At least 22 patients died on Wednesday in a hospital in western India after a disruption to their oxygen supply caused by a leaking tank, the health minister said, as a nationwide surge in coronavirus cases soaks up supplies of the crucial gas.

    The incident in the city of Nashik, one of India’s worst-hit areas, happened after the tank of gas leaked, said Rajesh Tope, the health minister of Maharashtra, the richest state, where the city is located.

    “Patients who were on ventilators at the hospital in Nashik have died,” Tope said in televised remarks.

    “The leakage was spotted at the tank supplying oxygen to these patients. The interrupted supply could be linked to the deaths of the patients in the hospital.”

    The world’s second-most populous nation reported 295,041 new infections on Wednesday for the world’s highest daily rise, stretching its hospitals to breaking point, officials said.

    On Tuesday, hospitals in Delhi, the capital, said they had enough oxygen left for just another eight to 24 hours, while some private institutions had enough for only four or five.

    The situation was so severe that some people had tried to loot an oxygen tanker, forcing authorities to beef up security, said the health minister of the neighbouring state of Haryana.

    “From now, I’ve ordered police protection for all tankers,” Anil Vij told Reuters.

    Television showed images of people with empty oxygen cylinders crowding refilling facilities as they scrambled to save stricken relatives in hospital.

    “We were completely blocked out of supplies yesterday but by the end of the day we received some and it is helping us today,” said Charu Sachdeva, an official at the state-run Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre in the capital.

    In the northern city of Lucknow, one man said a hospital had asked him to arrange oxygen supplies for his uncle or take him away since it had run out.

    Delhi, a city of 20 million people, recorded 28,395 new cases and 277 deaths on Tuesday, its highest tally since the pandemic began. Every third person tested for coronavirus proved positive. Several high-profile figures like former PM Manmohan Singh and former Congress president Rahul Gandhi have also tested positive for the virus.

    About 80 of 142 hospitals in Delhi had no beds left for virus patients, government figures showed.

    India faces a coronavirus “storm” overwhelming its health system, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a national address overnight, adding that authorities were working with states and private firms to deliver oxygen with “speed and sensitivity”.

    Delhi, like large parts of India, let its guard down when the virus seemed to be under control, allowing big gatherings such as weddings and festivals as daily infections fell to fewer than 1,000 during the winter, health experts said.

    When no one stood for Pakistan in the batting, Rizwan stood there and helped Pakistan get a decent total of 149 runs. On the other hand, the rest of the team managed to score only 67 runs.

    Zimbabwe failed to put the struggling teams away, and Pakistan were there for putting away several times in that first innings. In the end, the 12 wides bowled, and the sloppiness in the field came back to cost them, and the frenetic nature of the chase when it should have been a cakewalk didn’t quite work in the end. They could only reach up to 138 runs with the fall of 7 wickets.

    Rizwan’s unbeaten 82 of 61 balls also helped him win the Player of the Match award.

    “They won the toss and used the pitch well. The wickets here are different, the pitch keeps low. But Babar and I have this plan where if one fails the other tries to go deep. It’s working for now. In Zimbabwe, the ball doesn’t quite come on to the bat, but once Hafeez fell, my aim was to get us to 150,” said Rizwan in the presentation ceremony.

    Meanwhile, Qadir’s three-fer for only 29 runs and Hasnain’s brilliant bowling spells led Pakistan to victory.

    Pakistan has defended total of under 150 thrice against ZIM and ZIM made 137, 137 and 138 this time too close.

    It’s 2021, and people sitting in parliament are playing the religious card against each other and accusing each other of being a lesser Muslim.

    TLP Issue Round-up?

    A session of National Assembly was called yesterday to vote on the expulsion of the French ambassador from Pakistan. The session was attended by all major political parties except for the PPP, which boycotted it.

The banned TLP had held the country hostage with violent protests that led to the killing of four police officers and left 800 police officers injured.

    Senior Journalist Absar Alam attacked

    Senior journalist and former chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Absar Alam was shot in Islamabad yesterday evening. 

     Absar recorded a video on his way to the hospital after being shot. He says he was shot in the stomach and is heading to the hospital and he will not lose hope. 

     It is still unclear who was behind the attack. There is a certain pattern of reactions we see when any journalist is attacked; one of those reactions we see is that the person faked or planned their own attack. I don’t get it how can someone plan an attack on themselves? And why would they? This is just preposterous. Such reactions are highly insensitive.

    People who blame victims in these situations lack nothing but empathy.  

    As per the official Twitter account of Islamabad Police, a team has been directed to use all scientific and forensic methods to trace the accused involved in the incident.

  • Asad Umar warns complete lockdown in major cities if SOPs not followed

    Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umair has warned that a complete lockdown in major cities of the country could be imposed if the public does not strictly follow COVID-19 SOPs.

    Addressing the media after chairing a session of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Umar hinted at the possibility of shutting down major cities of the country amid a surge in COVID-19 cases.

    “Further restrictions will need to be imposed,” said Umar. “Let me make it clear, the level at which the virus is spreading and our hospitals are filling up, if we don’t act now, we will have no choice but to close down major cities.”

    “Presently, the number of patients on oxygen is more than 4,500 which is 30% more than than the first wave of the virus,” stressed Umar, adding: “Health facilities are under stress due to increasing number of positive cases which have now crossed 83,000.”

    Reiterating his warning, Umar said: “This is the last chance to follow SOPs and curb the spread of the virus otherwise we will not have any other choice but to close big cities.”

    Umar also said that the government has prepared a new set of guidelines and shared them with the provincial governments. They will be announced on Friday, April 23.

    Pakistan started the COVID-19 vaccination drive of people in the age group 50-59 today (April 21). Registrations for those 50 and above commenced on March 30. Those who haven’t registered can send their CNIC number to 1166 to register or can register online.

    Pakistan is experiencing the third wave of coronavirus with the situation worse than it was during the first wave. According to the NCOC, 5499 new cases and148 deaths were recorded in the country in the last 24 hours.

    Are Jahangir Tareen and Imran Khan back together?

    Following the sugar inquiry commission report last year, the friendship between Jahangir Khan Tareen (JKT) and Imran Khan ended, with JKT leaving for London and then later returning. Although Imran Khan has not publicly talked about his relationship with his old friend and former Secretary General of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), it seems like they are calling each other again and are about to meet up.

    PTI MNA Raja Riaz, who is part of what is called the ‘Jahangir Tareen group’, has revealed that the two ex-friends had spoken to each other.

    Raja Riaz told Geo News that the JKT group was going to meet for iftar today (Wednesday) but it was postponed after they were told they were going to be meeting with the PM, and their issues would be resolved during that meeting. Riaz also said that it wasn’t confirmed whether JKT would be attending. “An iftar dinner scheduled to be held at Tareen’s residence has been postponed after we were told the prime minister will meet the PTI lawmakers.”

    “We are confident that most of the issues will be resolved during the meeting,” he said.

    There was confusion over whether JKT would be meeting the PM as well (along with the group of PTI lawmakers known as the JKT group), but JKT told the Express Tribune, “We have been assured that the premier is ready to meet us. However, [I want to make it clear that] we will only meet the prime minister and not a governmental committee…during the meeting, we will present our grievances with regard to the sugar inquiry commission and the FIA’s [Federal Investigation Agency] cases [filed against the JDW group owned by Tareen].”

    Raja Riaz also said on Shahzeb Khanzada’s programme that they are of the view that JKT was being unfairly targeted and he said that “hopefully we will get a big relief when the prime minister comes to know about the facts.”

    Last week, more than 30 lawmakers were known to have sided with JKT, some that were willing to resign, and had met with JKT in the public showing up at a dinner at JKT’s place in Lahore. After the public show of support by the PTI lawmakers, PM Khan had contacted JKT.

    Sri Lanka’s Mrs World gives up title after criminal charges

    A Mrs World winner facing criminal charges after an on-stage fracas at a Sri Lankan beauty pageant has relinquished her title, organisers said Wednesday.

    Caroline Jurie made international headlines after yanking the crown off the winner at the local segment of Mrs World in Sri Lanka at a Colombo theatre this month.

    Jurie won the entire Mrs World competition last year in Las Vegas but California-based Mrs World Inc. said in a statement she had now voluntarily stepped down and the 2020 crown has now gone to runner up Kate Schneider of Ireland.

    Jurie had faced social media calls to give up her title after being arrested with an associate Chula Padmendra, following the unruly scenes on stage.

    Both have been charged with using criminal force and causing damage. They are on bail ahead of a first hearing on June 28.

    Jurie had claimed that this year’s Mrs Sri Lanka winner Pushpika de Silva was ineligible for the prize as she was divorced. The Mrs Sri Lanka victor qualifies to enter the next Mrs World competition.

    To qualify for the title, contestants must be married. De Silva is estranged from her husband, but they are legally married.

    The local franchise holder for the pageant, Chandimal Jayasinghe, has demanded compensation from Jurie for damage to the stage and dressing rooms where several mirrors were smashed.

    De Silva told reporters outside the Cinnamon Gardens police station in Colombo on Thursday that she was ready to drop charges if Jurie made a public apology, but she had refused.

    “I tried to end this out of court, but she has refused,” de Silva said. “I can forgive, but not forget.”

    There was no immediate comment from Jurie or her lawyer.

    Police sources had told AFP that a court hearing was likely next week and Jurie and her associate, who crashed onto the stage, could be granted bail.

    Jurie had come onto the stage claiming that de Silva was divorced and therefore not eligible for the prize. To qualify for the title, contestants must be married. De Silva is estranged from her husband, but they are still legally married.

    Britain’s Queen Elizabeth, the world’s oldest monarch, turns 95 on Wednesday, but there will be no public celebrations just days after she bade farewell to her husband of seven decades at his funeral.

    Prince Philip, whom Elizabeth married in 1947, died on April 9 at the age of 99. The royals paid their final respects to the family’s patriarch at his funeral on Saturday at Windsor Castle.

    Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the queen sat alone during the sombre service for Philip, who she had described as her “strength and stay”.

    Elizabeth, who is also the world’s longest-reigning monarch, will be at the castle for her birthday, which traditionally passes off with little or no ceremony.

    However, this year, with the royals marking two weeks of mourning, there will be no gun salutes at the Tower of London or the capital’s Hyde park which usually occur on the queen’s birthday.

    “I was at the funeral on Saturday, her Majesty was, as always, more concerned with other people than herself, and she will be on her birthday,” Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, told Reuters.

    “She doesn’t do ‘I’m the most important person in the room’. She does ‘I mind about the other people more than about myself’. She is an extraordinary person.”

    The queen also has an official birthday, which is usually celebrated with greater pomp on the second Saturday in June.

    Philip’s death has robbed Elizabeth of her closest and most trusted confidant, who had been beside her throughout her 69-year reign.

    Newspapers have suggested that family members would be visiting the queen over the coming days to ensure she would not be left alone while mourning her late husband.

    A Buckingham Palace spokesman declined to comment, saying all family matters after the funeral would be private.

    Elizabeth was born on April 21, 1926, in Bruton Street, central London. She ascended to the throne in 1952 at the age of 25, and surpassed her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria as Britain’s longest-reigning monarch in September, 2015.

    Elizabeth is also queen of 15 former British colonies including Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

    “I would like to send my warm wishes to Her Majesty The Queen on her 95th birthday,” British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Twitter. “I am proud to serve as her prime minister.”

    European Super League: All six clubs withdraw from competition, Prince William concerned

    All six Premier League clubs bowed to supporter pressure and have withdrawn from the European Super League (ESL).

    As per reports, Manchester City was the first club to pull out after Chelsea signalled their intent to do so by preparing documentation to withdraw. Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal all followed suit and confirmed they intended to withdraw from the project.

    Italian side Inter Milan are also set to withdraw as they no longer wish to be involved with the project. BBC Sport reported that bosses at the Serie A club are preparing for their exit following the dramatic developments.

    The 12-team Super League, set up by the seven aforementioned teams and Spain’s Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid and Italy’s AC Milan and Juventus was announced on Sunday to widespread condemnation.

    “Despite the announced departure of the English clubs, forced to take such decisions due to the pressure put on them, we are convinced our proposal is fully aligned with European law and regulations,” the ESL said on Wednesday, adding it was “convinced that the current status quo of European football needs to change”.

    In an interview with Italian newspaper la Repubblica, Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli said the remaining clubs will “press ahead” and the project still had “a 100% chance of being a success”.

    Balague also says Atletico Madrid are meeting on Wednesday morning to review their position.

    Prince William, who is president of the Football Association (FA), also expressed his concern over the “damage” the plans risk causing to “the game we love”.

    “Now, more than ever, we must protect the entire football community – from the top level to the grassroots – and the values of competition and fairness at its core.” wrote William on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s official Twitter account. “I share the concerns of fans about the proposed Super League and the damage it risks causing to the game we love.”

    William’s intervention comes as the royal family continues to mourn the death of his grandfather Prince Philip, whose funeral was held on Saturday.

    Fans of the “Big Six” Premier League teams were left upset and disappointed by the Super League announcement, having not been informed of the plans. Coaches and players were also not aware of the situation.

    In the hours following the confirmation of the Super League, fans of the Premier League “Big Six” took to their stadiums to protest the announcement, with Liverpool fans hanging banners and flags outside of Anfield.

    Chelsea supporters then voiced their concerns at Stamford Bridge in numbers prior to their Premier League game against Brighton. 

    Liverpool supporters’ groups also made the decision to remove their flags from The Kop, protesting the owners’ decision to “put financial greed above integrity of the game”.

    Rapper-vlogger Ali Gul Pir, who is known for dubbing popular videos, recently made a parody of actor Hina Altaf from her interview with Nida Yasir.

    “Case of the missing anday wala burger and incomplete halwa puri,” Ali titled the video.

    Ali also shared the original video in his post. In the original video, Hina is talking about how her ‘Anday wala burger‘ and ‘Halwa Puri‘, went missing.

    Hina found Pir’s video on her “hilarious”.

    The actor also shared a video of herself in fits while watching the video.

    Earlier this year, Ali also paid a humorous tribute to the four trees Pakistan lost in the Balakot airstrike.
