Shahroz Sabzwari responds to Yasir Hussain’s comments on his acting skills

Shahroz Sabzwari has responded to Yasir Hussain over his comments that the former should have stuck to television instead of venturing into films.

In a recent interview with a local media outlet, when Yasir was asked to name an actor who should have stayed on television instead of doing films, the actor named Shahroz Sabzwari.

Responding to Yasir’s comments, Sabzwari said: “I think everyone has their own opinion and I respect Yasir’s. I respect everyone’s opinions, whether it comes from someone in my family or a random person on the street. No one has been subjected to flak the way I have.”

The actor further said: “And he’s [Yasir’s]… I know him. So if that is what he thinks, then that’s fine by me.”

It is pertinent to add here that Sabzwari has been subjected to a lot of criticism ranging from nepotism to his acting skills to his ‘questionable’ personal decisions.

“Nowadays, people say so many things and many of us take them to the heart. We need to be stronger. We have to nurture ourselves and filter out the bashing that comes our way. If you don’t filter it out, you will lose,” said Shahroz.

“I own all my characters and my films. One of them Chain Aye Na was a dead flop, but I own it. I think everyone should do that too. A bad film or a character that doesn’t work for you should never define your potential. An actor is only done when he tells himself in the mirror that he is done,” expressed Sabzwari.

When asked if he thinks he made the right choices with his films and if there could be some weight in Hussain’s opinion, Shahroz said: “I’ve never made a wrong decision in my life. Before taking on anything I say Bismillah and I give it my best.”

“But again, Yasir is entitled to his opinion and if you ask me mine, I will say that I respect all the actors around me,” said Shahroz, adding: “Even someone who plays a minor role is significant to me because when the camera is rolling, even saying ‘Assalamualaikum, kaisay hain aap’ becomes a task.”

  • ‘Key state institutions telling lawmakers to support PTI’s candidate for Senate chairman,’ alleges PML-N

‘Key state institutions telling lawmakers to support PTI’s candidate for Senate chairman,’ alleges PML-N

With Senate chairman vote approaching, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has brought to the fore a senator who claims to have received calls to support the ruling party’s candidate for the slot, Sadiq Sanjrani.

Senator Hafiz Abdul Karim, while talking to media on Thursday, said that he received multiple telephone calls from officials of key state institutions to cast his vote in favour of Sanjrani in the election to be held through secret ballot on Friday.

He was accompanied by former prime minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbas, Marriyum Aurangzeb and Ahsan Iqbal.

“I received the first call on March 6 but I could not attend it. Later, calls were also made on March 7 and March 9. I attended the last call when I was told to support the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) candidate,” he claimed.

The PML-N senator said that he had been nominated in a four-year-old case to pressurise him, adding that he would continue to support Nawaz Sharif come what may.

The presser came shortly after PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz said that her party’s senators were being contacted and told to not support opposition alliance, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), in the forthcoming elections for chairman and deputy chairman of the upper house of the parliament.

‘We’re not a racist family’: Prince William rejects Meghan’s claims of racism

Prince William has defended the British royal family after his younger brother Harry and wife Meghan accused them of racism in a bombshell interview watched by millions across the world.

“We’re very much not a racist family,” William told reporters during a visit to a multi-racial school in a deprived area of East London, becoming the first royal to directly address the explosive interview.

The Duke of Cambridge, son of heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles, added that he had yet to speak to Harry in California since the interview first aired in the United States on Sunday.

“No, I haven’t spoken to him yet, but I will do,” he said, as his wife Kate Middleton walked by his side.

Harry and Meghan’s allegations of racism and mistreatment have rocked the royal family, and though Buckingham Palace tried to diffuse the situation saying that they will address the couple’s grievances privately, it has failed to quell the controversy.

Meghan, who is biracial, said in the interview she was so isolated and miserable as a working member of the royal family that she had suicidal thoughts. She also said Harry told her there were “concerns and conversations” by a royal family member about the color of her baby’s skin when she was pregnant with their son, Archie.

Meghan and Harry’s comments have touched off conversations around the world about racism, mental health and even the relationship between Britain and its former colonies.

Meanwhile, Charles has yet to comment on the controversy but was filmed on Tuesday touring a Nigerian Christian church in London whose pastors are promoting a drive to vaccinate more black people against the coronavirus.

  • Atif Aslam opens up about having a lonely childhood

Atif Aslam opens up about having a lonely childhood

Atif Aslam, in a rare interview, has opened up about his childhood, relationship with his brothers and how he ended up becoming a singer.

Speaking to Anas Bukhash on his show AB Talks, Aslam said: “I’m the youngest amongst my siblings. My stubbornness comes from there.”

“When I was a kid, I never bonded with my siblings because of a drastic age difference. I am the youngest, and got beat[en]-up the most.”

Aslam further said: “I have always been a naïve, sensitive kid who would disconnect with the world if I was not feeling right or in the correct head-space. I guess because of my personality being so disruptive, I never made great friends and went through a lonely patch at that time.”

The award-winning singer also shared that the strict environment in his household restricted him from being open with his parents.

“As a child, I have never been expressive because in my household we never hugged or cuddled each other,” shared Aslam. “I knew they [parents] loved me and I loved them back but to be affectionate towards them was out of the box, maybe because I was too scared of an aggressive reaction.”

Atif also revealed that while growing up he wanted to become a cricketer but later gave up because his parents were not satisfied with it.

“I worked really hard at it but my parents took it as a hobby and didn’t know how good I was. That led to me giving up on cricket as I was skipping classes,” shared Aslam.

Talking about his journey into the field of music, Aslam confessed: “I think I explored myself in that. I did not have any sort of an outlet and was in dire need of one. I became quiet and lonely,” adding that listening to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (NFAK) changed his interest and helped him cope.

“About 23 years ago, my brother introduced me to NFAK. While I felt alone and at my worst, his [NFAK] music calmed me, brought me closer to God and when I started praying, I started getting the answers.”

“During that time, I explored and found my own voice,” he shared further. “I didn’t know that this would become my career. It all started when we were shifting, the house was empty as the night sky prevailed at almost six in the evening. I started singing, my voice echoed through the four walls and upon reaching the high-notes, I was scared of my own voice.”

Revealing more about his first song, Aslam shared that he invested his own pocket money into recording that one song he penned in his free time.

“I recorded my first song Aadat out of my pocket money. It took me a few seconds to upload it on the internet when there was nothing like WhatsApp. People started loving it and led to the making of a music video. The rise of my career began at that moment.”

Aslam also expressed his love for his fans, acknowledging how being a successful male singer leads to a women-centric fan base. The 37-year-old revealed how balancing that with married life is sometimes difficult.

“In fame sometimes, things get tricky make you feel powerful. You have the opportunity to talk to anybody around the world but if you misuse that… it’s sort of difficult to look in the mirror because you know you’ve gone wrong somewhere,” stated the singer.

Concluding the interview, Aslam appreciated and lauded his wife for standing by his side despite him being difficult at times.

“Our senators are being called and asked not to vote for PDM candidate. Some of them have recorded the evidence,” wrote Maryam on social media.

“Classic, twisted and dark,” wrote the singer on Twitter. “A marginalized, victimized and vulnerable sector of society takes peacefully to the streets on a universally designated single day set aside for them, the usual rabid suspects take it straight into the twilight zone!”

“Corona ko kahin hum na ho jayein,” she added on a humorous note.

In another tweet, Shafi shed light on the main reason behind the backlash.

“And remember, this whole thing started this time because a young lady displayed a poster stating she was sexually abused by a maulvi,” said the singer.

  • Samsung, Oppo to start assembling mobile phones in Pakistan

Samsung, Oppo to start assembling mobile phones in Pakistan

Smartphone manufacturing companies Samsung and Oppo are likely to start assembling mobile phones in Pakistan soon after the removal of sales tax, worth more than $200 USD, on locally assembled phones.

According to reports, Samsung and Oppo are keen to enter the local market, but they are waiting for the implementation of a policy that will remove sales tax on locally assembled mobiles.

The Mobile Device Manufacturing Policy 2020 was approved by the Economic Corridor Committee (ECC) in May 2020. The decision was subsequently approved by the Cabinet on June 2, 2020.

Companies like Vivo, Airlink Communications, Invovi Telecom are new investors in the Pakistani market, and they have already started local assembly trial productions of mobile phones in February 2021.

Together, these companies can produce over one million handsets per month. Besides, Karachi-base company Tecno has increased local mobile assembly form 150,000 to 650,000 cellphone units per month due to the increase in demand.

With experienced companies like G-Five and Q Mobile already operating in the Pakistani market, the entry of new players and capacity enhancement by existing companies will allow Pakistan to meet a major portion of the local demand, which was around 3.6 million per month in 2020.

In foreseeable future, the mobile production industry will likely become larger than the automotive industry of Pakistan.

To further boost the electronics sector, work has already been started on preparing the appropriate framework for local assembly of tablets and mobile accessories to make this the fastest growing sector in terms of employment and exports.
