  • Senate Election: After Gillani’s video, Sindh minister’s alleged audio suggests horse-trading

Senate Election: After Gillani’s video, Sindh minister’s alleged audio suggests horse-trading

As lawmakers elect colleagues to the upper house of the Parliament amid controversies, Sindh Information Minister Nasir Hussain Shah has purportedly been heard in a leaked audio making assurances to ruling party lawmakers.

The audio clip being reported as a conversation between Punjab MPA Ali Haider Gillani and Shah emerged shortly after a video of former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gillani’s son instructing a lawmaker on how his vote can be wasted in the Senate election went viral on social media.

In the audio, two people can be heard talking about offers of millions of rupees to PTI lawmakers ahead of the Senate polls.

Ali can allegedly be heard saying that he spoke to Shah, who asked him to bring down the “offer”. An assurance is given in the audio that development work will be done in constituencies as per the wishes of PTI lawmakers.

“We could carry out uplift projects worth around Rs100 million,” said a voice being attributed to Ali.

The son of the Senate candidate allegedly said it would be difficult to carry money if payments are made in cash as it would attract attention.

The same voice further said that ‘friends’ (PTI lawmakers) were standing with him and wanted to talk to the provincial information minister.

“Tell four of them that they would be taken care of,” another man responded. The voice is said to be of Shah.

The provincial information minister has denied that the voice is his.

Indian politician requests Pakistani comic Akbar Chaudhry to mimic Imran Khan

India’s Shashi Tharoor has requested Pakistani comedian Akbar Chaudhry to mimic Imran Khan after enjoying Chaudhry’s hilarious take on the politician’s oratory English skills.

Tharoor, a member of the Indian National Congress, is known for using extensive English vocabulary during his speeches and interviews. Chaudhry had made a fun video on that and shared a few tips on how people can also speak fluent English like Tharoor.

The video shows the comedian making a drink out of the Oxford Dictionary and then drinking it. The second tip is to get a ‘blood transfusion’ with the Oxford Dictionary on one side and Tharoor’s speech on the other.

In the third step, Akbar crushes a dictionary and snorts it. According to the comedian, if these steps are followed, anyone can speak like Tharoor.

Soon after the comedian’s video went viral on social media, the politician responded and requested him to mimic PM Khan. Tharoor shared the video with a laughing emoji and wrote: “Next one on Imran Khan please!?”

Speaking about the video, Akbar told The News that his friends from India have told him that the video is a hit on Indian WhatsApp groups.

When asked about the idea behind the video, Akbar said that he had earlier done a video on “How to Speak English Like a Burger” and had received a lot of positive response on it.

Akbar said that when that video did very well, he thought about doing similar stuff.

He shared that almost two weeks ago, he had seen a tweet which joked that this year’s English exam for the Civil Superior Services (CSS) was set by Shashi Tharoor given the extensive and difficult vocabulary used in it.

“[That’s when] the idea came to me that I can do a video on ‘How to speak English like Shashi Tharoor’,” said Akbar.

He shared that he has been a big fan of Shashi Tharoor’s usage of the words in the English language.

The comedian from the improvisational comedy group ‘Lol Waalay’, said that he had been hopeful that his effort would reach Tharoor.

“Obviously, I didn’t believe it would happen, but somehow lots of people tagged him [Tharoor] in it and he replied,” said Akbar, adding he was “very happy” with the response.

Mahira Khan, Aiman Khan are done with the ‘pawri’

After weeks of ‘pawri-ing it up’, it seems that Pakistan, including our favourite divas Mahira Khan and Aiman Khan, are done with the trend.

Mahira expressed her feelings on the trend with a hilarious meme featuring Batman and Robin. In the meme, Batman can be seen slapping Robin who tries to recreate ‘Pawri Ho Rai Hai,’ asking him to shut up.

However, fans were quick to criticise Mahira, saying she was among the first to recreate the Pawri video.

While one social media user wrote: “Yeh pehly khudi dance kar rahi thi, ab chup karwa re. Ajeeb,” another thanked Mahira for asking for a stop on the trend, saying: “Thank you for being brave enough to speak about the things no one talks about!!”.

Meanwhile, Aiman also shared the same meme on social media.

  • Amazon Prime offers rare apology ‘to anyone who felt hurt’ over ‘Tandav’

In a rare move, Amazon Prime has issued an apology to its Indian viewers over the scenes in its political drama Tandav which sparked outrage and hurt religious sentiments, Reuters has reported.

In a statement, the streaming said that it deeply regrets that viewers found certain scenes to be objectionable.

Amazon apologises “unconditionally to anyone who felt hurt,” read the statement, adding that it will continue to “develop content while respecting the diversity of audiences’ culture and beliefs”.

While Tandav controversy began in January, soon after the series released, it escalated last week when police in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh (UP) questioned one of Amazon’s top executives for hours in one case filed against the show.

When asked about the company apology, a senior state police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said authorities would continue to investigate the matter.

Featuring Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Sunil Grover, Gauahar Khan and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub in key roles, Tandav has been accused of disrespecting Hindu deities, with several political leaders including Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya demanding legal action against the team. Karni Sena also announced a Rs 1 crore award to the person who will chop of the tongue of Tandav’s makers.

Earlier, following the backlash and outrage, Tandav creator Ali Abbas Zafar issued an unconditional apology” on behalf of the team and, clarified that “Tandav is a work of fiction and any resemblance to acts and persons and events is purely coincidental” and that’s how one should also take it. While the series does appear to have been inspired by real-life incidents, it is also imperative to keep in mind that creative liberty has been taken.”

Later, Ali issued another statement, in which he said that the makers decided to “implement changes” to the web series after concerns were raised. At least two scenes were removed from the show.

  • Vawda resigns from National Assembly after casting his Senate vote

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday reserved its judgement in the case seeking Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Vawda’s disqualification. Prior to this development, Vawda cast his vote for the Upper House and resigned from his National Assembly seat, The Express Tribune has reported.

A single bench of the IHC comprising Justice Aamer Farooq was hearing the petition moved against the federal minister by Barrister Jahangir Jadoon. During the hearing, Vawda’s counsel argued that the case against him in the court stands ineffective following his resignation.

However, Jadoon objected to the argument, stating that several members of the assembly resigned from their seats and joined the parliament again in the past. He added that a person remains a member of the assembly unless the Speaker of the National Assembly accepts the resignation.

Faisal Vawda was a dual national at the time of filing nomination papers for 2018’s General Election and concealed his American citizenship by falsely declaring on the oath he submitted to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

8yo signs Rs5 million contract with esports team

Joseph Deen has become the youngest esports professional player as he signed up for Team 33, one of the best competitive teams for egames.

The eight-years-old got a position and a $33,000 (approximately Rs5 million) sign-on bonus for his skills as a Fortnite player.

The news has shocked many because of Deen’s age and the impressive amount of money he was offered for joining Team 33.

Although Deen is the youngest asset of Team 33, he is not the only underage player to have joined a professional esports team.

But Deen has signed the contract with Team 33 under different conditions. For example, Joseph Deen cannot participate in any Fortnite cup tournaments since he is not legally allowed to do so, and he will only be training for two to three hours a day.

He has proven his outstanding skills in the Fortnite game. The co-founder of Team 33 Tyler Gallagher has mentioned that Deen got $33,000 sign-up because he had beaten another professional member of Team 33 in a Fortnite match.

Deen himself has said that he has not been taken seriously before, and he hopes that the perception will change now after he became part of a professional esports team.
