Qubool hai: Hamza Ali Abbasi & Naimal Khawar

After a whirlwind week which began with speculations, followed by Hamza’s lengthy acceptance and then a note on the right way of finding love, Hamza Ali Abbasi and Naimal Khawar have said their Qubool hais and are now officially man and wife.

Their nikkah ceremony, which was an intimate affair, took place in Islamabad in the presence of family and some very close friends. Both the bride and groom looked radiant in white outfits and since it was a day time event they made sure to take some sunkissed selfies and pictures.

Naimal opted to wear her mother’s bridal dress and jewellery. Islamabad-based designer Maheen Shah did Naimal’s outfit.

“Naimal wanted to reuse her mother’s bridal and we thought it’ll surely make her look like a timeless bride. Playing with the vintage old world charm we paired it with a gold kamdaani kameez with gota and silma work on the front/back border, sleeves and the neckline. We added another organza dupatta with kamdaani chatta, finished with lace, lappa and taamba lace,” said the designer on the bride’s outfit.

Close friends of the couple which included Gohar Rasheed, Ammara Hikmat, Usman Mukhtar, Bilal Lashari, Umair Jaswal and Atif Aslam graced the event with their presence. Senior PTI leader Senator Faisal Javed Khan and Murad Saeed were also present at the event.

Student arrested for posing as PRO to CM Buzdar

A university student, posing as the public relations officer (PRO) to Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar was arrested and sent to Adiala jail.

According to police sources, Hamza Feroz, a resident of Gulraiz Colony, Rawalpindi, wanted police protocol for his parents who returning from Hajj. In this matter, he called the police security branch and introduced himself as the chief minister’s PRO and asked for police deployment along the route starting from Golra Mor to Soan Camp.

Feroz’s demand made the chief security officer (CSO) of Special Branch suspicious, who then verified details and found them to be fake. The CSO then informed the city police officer and alerted the police.

Hamza along with his brother was going to the Islamabad International Airport (IIA) in a luxury car with a flashing blue revolving light and Pakistan’s flag on its front to receive their parents when the police intercepted them for driving recklessly. Upon investigation, it was revealed that he was the same person posing to be the CM’s PRO. The police then took them into custody.

Karachi-based matchmaker Mrs Khan says women are to blame for divorces

Welcome to your daily dose of cringe.

A Karachi-based matchmaker, who is popularly known as Mrs Khan, on live television said that rising divorces are due to women’s inability to bow down before their husbands and because they argue too much.

“We were told from the start that we should hold our tongue and keep it in control,” Mrs Khan said. “If a woman keeps her tongue in check, we wouldn’t have to face these problems. Such problems arise when women are unable to control themselves and try to dominate their husbands.”

She continued, “We were told that when the husband comes home, his shoes and clothes should be properly placed. There should be a roti on the tawa just ready to be served with the salan, which is supposed to have been prepared beforehand. But girls nowadays – they say that will not make rotis or do any work.”

Phir shaadi kyun ki?” she asked angrily. “If you’re not capable of doing this, then don’t get married…Until and unless you’re not a proper woman then don’t get married. Marriage means responsibility.”

When the host interrupted Mrs Khan and said that girls say “Hum maasi ban kar thori kisi kay ghar ja rahe hain, hum toh biwi ban kar ja rahe hain,” Mrs Khan attacked her.

“Were they maids in their parent’s house? Or are they some minister or governor’s daughter? You’ll have to do it [house work] like your mother. Who would take care of you and your needs, give you food etc? Who would bring money to the house? The same rules apply in your own marriage.”

She then reiterated her earlier point that no matter strata of the society girls belong to they must always keep their mouths shut and never voice their opinions.

She then proceeded to say that the media has ruined women and encouraged them to “open their mouths” while the husband listens silently.

Needless to say, Mrs Khan’s comments sparked outrage among women who were disgusted by her misogynist and outdated comments.

And men had a field day because they found a woman who agrees with their misogynist thoughts.

Did you know reading is healthy?

We all know books are good for the brain and food for the soul. But what we may not know is that books are healthy for us in other ways as well.

Unfortunately, according to a recent survey carried out by Gallup, 75% of Pakistanis claim not to read any books at all and only 9% are avid readers.

Here are some health benefits of reading books which might encourage you to head to the nearest bookstore and grab a book or two.

    Reduces stress

Research from the University of Sussex suggests that daily reading can lessen stress up to 68 percent, even more than listening to music, drinking a cup of tea or taking a walk.

    Improves IQ

Books improve verbal IQ and stimulate parts of the brain related to language and memory. Reading also delays cognitive decline in the elderly.

    Helps in weight loss

For those struggling to lose weight, adding a good novel to your diet and exercise routine could help. A study from Duke University suggested that reading an inspiring novel helped young girls to achieve weight loss within six months compared to those who didn’t read.

    Boosts emotional intelligence

Reading boosts emotional intelligence. By reading and imagining a character in mind, it becomes easier to see yourself in a character’s actions. Beyond just entertainment, you find inspiration and empathy.
