Railways suffer losses worth over Rs28bn in PTI’s first eight months

In contradiction to Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed’s claims, Pakistan Railways (PR) has suffered a loss of Rs28.62 billion within the first eight months of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, it was revealed Friday.

Just last month, Rasheed had claimed that PR has generated a profit of Rs43 billion ever since he was handed the reins of the department.

However, according to a report submitted to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Railways, the department’s total expenditure stands at Rs72 billion, while six of the 10 new trains inaugurated by Rasheed are suffering losses.

The trains running to further ruin the crippling department include Dhabeji Express, Shah Latif Express, Mohenjodaro Express, Rohi Passenger Train, Thal-Mianwali Express, Faisalabad Non-Stop Train and Rawalpindi Express.

  • Why Ranveer Singh is #HusbandGoals

    Why Ranveer Singh is #HusbandGoals

Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone are one of Bollywood’s most-loved couple and with good reason. Not only do they both complement one another beautifully but the fact that Ranveer is always first to cheer on his wife is probably the single-most reason why they are so popular. The subcontinent is used to having the woman one step behind thanks to the internalised concept of patriarchy which is why these two are like a breath of fresh air.

Internationally Deepika is the bigger star, but does that hurt Ranveer’s “ego and masculinity?” Doesn’t look like it and here’s proof.

Deepika recently made two high-profile appearances, one on the Met Gala and the other on the Cannes Red Carpet and Ranveer’s comments on Deepika’s pictures were probably more fun than her looks. *sigh*

Later, Deepika also indulged in some PDA with a tweet.

  • Celebrity blunders

    Celebrity blunders

The past month has seen a surprising number of irresponsible acts and statements by major celebrities in Pakistan. Though one can brush them off saying that’s it okay because celebs are also human, but the fact is that they are followed by thousands of people across the country who look up to them and follow what they say. Which is why they need to be careful in what they say and do.

Here’s taking a look back at some major blunders made by celebrities in just the past month.

    Hira Mani

In her appearance on Jeeto Pakistan, Hira Mani said that she believes that men are smarter than women and that a woman can sometimes make bad decisions. To this Fahad Mustafa, who hosts the show, said that’s not true and that his wife has always made the best decisions. He added, “Our country’s women are smarter than men.”

    Ali Zafar

In his interview with Mubashir Lucman, Ali Zafar said that he has hung out with some of Bollywood’s most beautiful women, including Katrina Kaif and Taapsee Panu, so if he had a history they would also have an issue with him, which they don’t.

    Yasir Hussain

Yasir made not one but two major blunders. A few weeks back, Yasir cracked insensitive jokes about transgenders when he revealed that he will be essaying the role of a woman in his upcoming telefilm. He later apologised for his comments and said that he did not mean to degrade anyone.

Yasir also trolled Hania Aamir when she opened up about her struggle with acne and ‘imperfect’ skin. This led to an Instagram feud between the two. But latest pictures from Nomi Ansari’s white aftar suggest that the two have patched things up.

Saboor Aly & Saheefa Jabbar Khattak

Saboor and Saheefa came under fire after Saboor posted a story on Instagram in which she appears to be making fun of the window cleaner. The actors later apologised for their video and said that the person in the video was their friend and they were cracking an “inside joke”.

    Samina Peerzada

In her interview with Affan Waheed, Samina implied that friends and family can replace the need for a shrink. Her comments are problematic because mental illness is serious and requires proper medical assistance.

Aamir Liaquat believes Bermuda Triangle is ‘Dajjal’s eye’

Televangelist Aamir Liaquat Hussain has claimed that Bermuda
Triangle, also known as the Devil’s Triangle, is “actually the right eye of Dajjal
    (Antichrist)”.

Liaquat revealed the “reality” behind the loosely-defined region
of the North Atlantic Ocean while hosting a Ramzan show on Pakistan Television
    (PTV).

A number of aircraft and ships are said to have disappeared under
    mysterious circumstances in the area.

While the TV host — also an elected representative — is
not the first person to have such a theory about the region, most reputable
sources dismiss the idea that there is any mystery.

Several people believe that the Bermuda Triangle and the
surrounding areas are either haunted or occupied by aliens.

Paparazzi pays Prince Harry ‘substantial’ damages for taking intrusive photos

Prince Harry has won “substantial damages” from a news agency that has apologised for taking aerial photos of the country home he and Meghan Markle lived in before they moved to Windsor.

According to People, the pictures were taken from a chartered helicopter that flew close to their former home in Oxfordshire in January. The low-altitude shots were said to have looked “into the living area and dining area of the home and directly into the bedroom.”

Harry’s lawyers told the High Court in London that the home “had been chosen by the Duke for himself and his wife given the high level of privacy it afforded given its position in a secluded area surrounded by private farmland away from any areas to which photographers have access.”

They further argued that the release of the images “very seriously undermined the safety and security of The Duke and the home to the extent that they are no longer able to live at the property.”

Following the court proceedings, the media agency Splash, agreed to pay a substantial sum in damages and legal costs and has apologised to The Duke.

Buckingham Palace, in a short statement, said that Harry “acknowledges and welcomes the formal apology from Splash News and Picture Agency as referenced in the Statement in Open Court today.” Reports also suggest that the money that Prince Harry receives in damages will be given to a charity of his and Meghan’s choice.

Shehbaz Sharif applies for political asylum in UK?

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Shehbaz Sharif has applied for political asylum in the United Kingdom (UK), a private media outlet reported on Wednesday night.

According to BOL News, the opposition leader in the National Assembly, who is facing multiple National Accountability Bureau (NAB) cases of corruption and misuse of power as Punjab chief minister, has applied for political refuge.

Soon after the report was aired, other media outlets made similar claims as another popular channel explained why one seeks humanitarian protection outside his or her home country.

Social media was abuzz with conflicting reports when Shehbaz’s spokesperson Attaullah Tarar took to Twitter to clarify the situation.

Rubbishing the claims, Tarar said Shehbaz will be returning to Pakistan before the budget session for the fiscal year 2019-20 in the National Assembly and Senate on May 24.

He said that the younger Sharif had an appointment with a cancer specialist on May 8 in London and another one on May 14. “It is likely that he may be suggested a few more tests after which he will be returning to Pakistan,” he said.

Earlier, Shehbaz himself had also said he would be back in Pakistan in a matter of days.

“I have a few medical check-ups to attend to in the next few days and I will be returning to Pakistan after that. It could be much sooner than the budget session,” he had told a media outlet earlier this month.

Shehbaz, a cancer patient, has been in London for over three weeks now. He has reportedly undergone various tests as part of his medical check-ups, especially for the pain he had developed while in NAB custody.

  • Usman Buzdar outclasses Balochistan, KP, Sindh chief ministers

Usman Buzdar outclasses Balochistan, KP, Sindh chief ministers

Despite the ire that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has drawn for its economic policies and questionable performance of some of its lawmakers, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar has outperformed all his counterparts.

According to the latest survey conducted by Gallup Pakistan, CM Buzdar has topped performance charts against the chief ministers of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Sindh.

The survey was conducted on the holistic performance of all
chief ministers in the previous year. As many as 37 per cent people termed CM Buzdar’s
performance good, followed by KP CM at 34 per cent, Balochistan CM at 30 per cent
and then Sindh CM at 27 per cent.

A total of 60 per cent of Pakistanis (those who voted for him
as very good, good and appropriate) are satisfied with CM Buzdar’s performance.

A large chunk (65 per cent) of youngsters are among those satisfied
    with the Punjab CM.

    ‘WE LOVE IMRAN KHAN’:

Meanwhile, a majority of Pakistanis have a favourable
opinion of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s performance after his first nine
    months in power.

According to the same survey, 58 per cent people are
satisfied with his individual performance as prime minister.

The survey, however, showed that the performance of the PTI
government in the field of economy was weaker than the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz
(PML-N) government. According to 51 per cent people, the PML-N government’s
performance in the field of economy was better than the current government.
