Local police have resolved the mysterious disappearance of an 8th grade student from Kotri area. The missing girl, Karishma Magsi, was recovered from her sister’s house.

News of the girl’s disappearance went viral on social media.

Express Tribune reported that Karishma’s father Himmat Ali Magsi initially lodged a case of Karishma’s abduction against his three nephews including Naik Mohammad Magsi, Amir Magsi, and Munir Ahmed Soomro in Kotri police station.

The police reported that Karishma was recovered from her elder sister’s house living in Daur. The raid happened 12 days after the incident. Later, she was produced in the court.

The police revealed that the girl’s father created the hoax of her kidnapping and registered a case against the nephews because of his personal enmity with them over property and other domestic issues.

SHO Khair Muhammad Mallah said that action would be taken against Himmat Ali Magsi for lodging a false case.

However, Karishma’s parents along with their relatives, protested in front of Kotri Press Club.

They alleged that the abductors left the child at her elder sister’s house as soon as the case was registered. They also accused the police of pressurising and harassing them.

They demanded that the Chief Minister and IG Sindh take notice of the unfair attitude of the police and provide justice.

PCB dashes hopes of officials hoping to get free American trip during World Cup

The dreams of a few officials who wanted to visit America under the guise of the T20 World Cup have been dashed.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials have banned unnecessary visits.

According to Express sources, PCB officials will no longer be able to make unnecessary trips for free after Chairman Mohsin Naqvi banned the practice. This will be applied both internally and abroad.

The board used to spend a lot of money on travel and stay and also had to bear losses in terms of allowances but when the matter came to the notice of the chairman, he took action.

On the other hand, sources further claimed that the process of changes in PCB is not over yet but will start again soon. The Chairman now has an idea of the performance of most of the top officials and wants to make appointments based on merit.

Some officials also came into light who do not work much but apparently it was done as if the board was running on their bill. Preparations have started to send such people home. Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises have also complained to the PCB.

  • Iran’s Raisi to be laid to rest in home town

Iran’s Raisi to be laid to rest in home town

Iran’s president Ebrahim Raisi, who was killed in a helicopter crash, will be buried Thursday in his hometown after two days of funeral processions attended by thousands of mourners.

Raisi, 63, died on Sunday alongside his foreign minister and six others when their helicopter crashed in the country’s mountainous northwest while returning from a dam inauguration.

His final resting place will be at the holy shrine of Imam Reza, a key Shiite mausoleum in the northeastern city of Mashhad, where the ultra-conservative president was born.

Images published by Iranian media on Wednesday showed officials in Mashhad preparing for the final day of funerary rites.

Large photos of Raisi, black flags and Shiite symbols were erected throughout the streets of Iran’s second city, particularly around the Imam Reza shrine.

Massive crowds had gathered for a funeral procession on Wednesday in the capital Tehran to pay their final respects to the president, whom officials and media dubbed a “martyr”.

Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei — whom Raisi had been widely expected to succeed — led prayers for the late president, kneeling before the coffins of the eight people killed in the crash.

Among them was foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, who will also be buried Thursday in the shrine of Shah Abdol-Azim in the town of Shahr-Rey south of the capital.

    – June 28 election –

Tunisian President Kais Saied and Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani attended an afternoon ceremony for Raisi on Wednesday in which around 60 countries took part, said state news agency IRNA.

Member countries of the European Union were among the absentees of the ceremony, while some non-member countries, including Belarus and Serbia had their representatives.

Khamenei, who wields ultimate authority in Iran, has declared five days of national mourning and assigned vice president Mohammad Mokhber, 68, as caretaker president until a June 28 election for Raisi’s successor.

A presidential election in Iran had not been expected until next year, and Sunday’s crash has caused some uncertainty as to who will succeed Raisi, with some expressing concern about the upcoming president.

“How do I find someone like him? I’m really worried about that,” said 31-year-old cleric Mohsen at Wednesday’s funeral in Tehran. “As far as I know, we don’t have anyone of his stature.”

Raisi was elected president in 2021, succeeding the moderate Hassan Rouhani at a time when the economy was battered by US sanctions imposed over Iran’s nuclear activities.

The ultra-conservative’s time in office saw mass protests, a deepening economic crisis and unprecedented armed exchanges with arch-enemy Israel.

After his death, Russia and China sent their condolences, as did NATO, while the UN Security Council observed a minute’s silence.

Messages of condolence also flooded in from Iran’s allies around the region, including the Syrian government as well as Hamas and Hezbollah.

  • Telecom companies block 9,000 SIMs of non-filers under FBR directive

Telecom companies block 9,000 SIMs of non-filers under FBR directive

Telecom operators have taken action by blocking the mobile SIMs of approximately 9,000 individuals who have not filed their taxes, following directives from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

According to a spokesperson from the FBR, this measure has been expedited, with telecom companies receiving updated data daily for the purpose of blocking SIMs.

It has been revealed that the FBR has already provided data for around 30,000 individuals whose SIMs are earmarked for blocking.

However, the spokesperson acknowledged that there is still a substantial number of approximately 506,671 individuals who have not filed their Income Tax Return for Tax Year 2023 but are obligated to do so.

Initially, telecom operators were hesitant to execute this directive, citing various legal concerns. Nevertheless, they eventually consented to manually block SIMs in smaller batches.

The FBR had issued an Income Tax General Order (ITGO) in late April, instructing the disabling of mobile phone SIMs belonging to over half a million individuals not appearing on the active taxpayer list.

At the time of issuance, telecom companies were directed to furnish a compliance report by May 15 regarding this matter.

  • Gold prices in Pakistan dip marginally amid declining purchasing power

Gold prices in Pakistan dip marginally amid declining purchasing power

Gold prices in Pakistan saw a slight decline on Wednesday, with the rate for 24-karat gold falling by Rs300 to Rs248,200 per tola.

The Karachi Sarafa Association reported that the price of 24-karat gold also decreased to Rs212,791 per 10 grammes, marking a drop of Rs236. Similarly, the price of 22-karat gold was adjusted to Rs195,059 per 10 grammes.

This decrease in gold prices can be attributed to a significant reduction in purchasing power, with the current rate maintained at Rs4,000 below its actual cost.

In contrast, silver prices remained stable in the domestic market. The price for 24-karat silver was steady at Rs2,850 per tola and Rs2,443.41 per 10 grammes.

On the global stage, international spot gold traded near $2,418.3 per ounce, down by 0.11 per cent for the day. A notable trend is emerging in China, the world’s largest consumer of gold, where bullion imports have slowed.

April saw overseas purchases of physical gold fall to 136 tons, a 30 per cent decrease from the previous month and the lowest total for the year, as per the latest customs data.

Meanwhile, international silver prices held near an 11-year high. The surge in silver prices is driven by increased investor interest, a favourable macroeconomic environment, and a projected fourth annual market deficit.

The evolving dynamics in the precious metals market reflect broader economic trends and shifting consumer behaviours globally.
