VIDEO: ‘Salman Akram Raja resigned after Bushra Bibi abused him’

Journalist Kashif Abbasi has claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Salman Akram Raja resigned after wife of party founder Imran Khan and former first lady, Bushra Bibi, hurled abuses at him among other party leaders.

Raja had on Thursday afternoon tendered his resignation to party chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan citing “personal reasons”. The party chief had confirmed the receipt of resignation; however, he had said that the same had not yet been accepted.

During his show later in the day, Abbasi claimed that the resignation came after the former first lady “humiliated and dishonoured” PTI leadership, “calling them bayghairat [shameless] and vultures seven times” in an earlier meeting. She once again used those words for party bigwigs in a meeting following the abrupt end to PTI’s Islamabad protests, the journalist added.

Claiming this was the reason behind Raja’s resignation as well as discontent among senior leaders of the party, Abbasi also quoted Raja as saying that he was “not accountable to any family member of Imran Khan”.

Meanwhile, journalist Shahzeb Khanzada claimed that Bushra’s behaviour was also the reason behind Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) Sahibzada Hamid Raza’s resignation from the PTI core and political committees.

Reports also quoted sources within the PTI as saying that Bushra’s insistence on marching towards D-Chowk was what led to party’s humiliation amid strong resistance from law enforcement. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Ali Amin Gandapur did not want to advance past Kulsoom Hospital but the former first lady kept insisting, they said.

Speaking to a private media outlet, PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat confirmed the claim. “The KP CM was stressed out as he did not want to proceed beyond the Kulsoom Hospital limit. He was not in favour of marching towards D-Chowk […] He even visited Bushra’s vehicle twice,” he said.

The developments come following Tuesday night’s grand operation against PTI demonstrators in the federal capital. The crackdown prompted CM Gandapur and the former first lady to fall back and flee to KP where PTI is in power.

Prior to the operation, the two had led a mammoth convoy to Islamabad, demanding the release of incarcerated party founder Imran Khan. Convoys led by the duo as well as other leaders of the party met with heavy resistance from law enforcement.

With the three-day protests turning violent, multiple casualties were also reported.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had on late Tuesday night addressed media to announce that the capital city had been cleared of protesters after a join operation by police and Rangers personnel.

  • Pak-India relationship like KMKT’s Mustafa and Adeel: Emmad Irfani

Pak-India relationship like KMKT’s Mustafa and Adeel: Emmad Irfani

In a recent interview with India Today, the Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum actor opened up about the love and appreciation his work has received from across the border.

The host, Sana Farzeen, asked, “Tell me, when you get such love from India for your project, how do you feel? When your work is so appreciated from the neighboring country, how do you feel?”

Emmad Irfani replied, “I mean, for an entertainer, applause is the best form of encouragement. What more could a performer ask for?”

The Jaan-e Jahan actor reflected on the relationship between Pakistan and India and described it in a unique way.

“I always believe that the relationship between Pakistan and India is like Mustafa and Adeel. They are probably brothers, raised in the same house, have blood ties, but they don’t see eye to eye. Their relationship is just like that of brothers, a story we tell, going back in time,” Emmad Irfani said.

The Jalan actor discussed the long and thoughtful journey behind the project (Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum), emphasizing the dedication that went into it.

Irfani said, “As for how it all started, the shooting began last year, and I was tapped by Badar Mahmood much before that. It took a sweet time, and everything didn’t happen quickly. In fact, if you ask me, Badar Mahmood, our director, I think his journey took about two and a half to three years, from the idea to the writing, from casting to shooting, and finally the release. So, I think it was made with a lot of patience, a labor of love.”

Emmad Irfani portrayed the character of Adeel in Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum.

“I’ve been to India twice, once I visited Delhi, and another time I came to Bombay. It feels like the same surroundings, the same vibe, and everything appears the same. So, thank you so much. I mean, Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum has totally introduced me to an audience that was unaware of who I was. It’s really one of the proudest moments of my life. I came for Bridal Asia in Delhi in 2002, and I came for Bridal Waves in Bombay in 2004,” Emmad shared.

Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum was written by Farhat Ishtiaq and directed by Badar Mehmood.

  • New ECB rules restrict English players from PSL but allow IPL participation

New ECB rules restrict English players from PSL but allow IPL participation

The English Cricket Board (ECB) has banned its players from playing in any franchise league during the English domestic season.

British media say that English cricketers cannot play in several leagues, including PSL, MCL, LPL and CPL. ECB’s decision will also affect the Pakistan Super League (PSL), to be held in April next year. However, ECB has given players an exemption from playing the India Premier League (IPL) in the new policy.

Due to the Champions Trophy, PSL Season 9 window has been kept in April and May. The English county season also takes place in the same months. The ECB’s decision is likely to cause financial loss to players playing franchise cricket, and there is a fear that this decision may cause some players to leave red-ball cricket.

ECB Chief Executive Richard Gould said, “We have to protect the dignity of our game and the strength of our cricket competitions. No player will be given a No Objection Letter (NOC) to participate in any other competitions during the English Vitality Blast and The Hundred League.”

The ECB says that the decision will improve the quality of domestic cricket.

  • We will bear the wounds, but not let ourselves be dishonoured: Mohsin Naqvi’s blunt stand for Champions Trophy

We will bear the wounds, but not let ourselves be dishonoured: Mohsin Naqvi’s blunt stand for Champions Trophy

The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, has taken an unapologetic stand in light of the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s stance on hosting the Champions Trophy.

Speaking on Geo News’ Geo Pakistan program, senior sports journalist Abdul Majid Bhatti revealed that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi went to Dubai yesterday, where he spent a busy day at the ICC headquarters.

“Mohsin Naqvi held one-on-one meetings with ICC officials. The PCB Chairman met ICC CEO Jeff  Allardyce and other officials, but many PCB officials in Lahore are unaware of his departure for Dubai,” he revealed.

“Mohsin Naqvi presented Pakistan’s position sternly to the ICC officials and also outlined Pakistan’s legal stance regarding the Champions Trophy. He is still in Dubai today, where he will join the ICC board meeting via video link,” Bhatti added.

“Voting in the ICC emergency meeting regarding the hosting of the Champions Trophy is the last option.

“If we talk about the hybrid model, then undoubtedly, the most popular venue is Dubai, which is close to both Pakistan and India and has a large number of citizens from both countries. However, Pakistan is not considering this option at the moment. If such a situation arises, Mohsin Naqvi will consult the Pakistani government again and respond to the ICC,” he said.

He also speculated that there is a possibility that a decision regarding the Champions Trophy may not be made in today’s meeting, and the matter will be deferred to the next meeting, during which Jay Shah will take over the ICC presidency.

“Jay Shah will be expected to fulfil the requirements of justice, but obviously, he will not do so and will follow the policies of the BJP,” Bhatti said.

The ICC board meeting will begin at 3 pm Pakistani time. This will be the last meeting of Greg Barclay as ICC Chairman.

According to Geo, Mohsin Naqvi has made it clear to the ICC that the Pakistan Board is firm on its stance regarding the Champions Trophy and that they will bear the scars and not allow themselves to be dishonoured.

The ICC has not yet been able to announce the new schedule for the Champions Trophy due to Indian stubbornness, which is also worrying broadcasters, who fear a loss of millions of dollars.

The ICC has called a board meeting for Friday, November 29. An ICC spokesperson has confirmed that this meeting will be held online, and the agenda has been sent to all board members.

The scheduling and future of the Champions Trophy will be considered during the meeting, and various options for the Champions Trophy will be discussed.

The PCB also told the ICC that if a formula is devised to play matches with India at a neutral venue, Pakistan will never go to India to play.

On the other hand, according to a report by the cricket website Cricinfo, the option of holding the Champions Trophy in Pakistan without India may be discussed in the ICC board meeting. The choice of a hybrid model for the Champions Trophy will also be addressed, in which most of the events will be played in Pakistan, but India’s matches will be held in another country.

According to the cricket website, the board meeting will also discuss the proposal to hold the entire tournament in another country, with PCB as the host. However, the chances of a “minus India” formula are low due to commercial value.

The PCB has already discussed the “minus India” proposal based on past examples.

  • UK filmmaker Richard Curtis makes first foray into animation

UK filmmaker Richard Curtis makes first foray into animation

Two decades after scoring a surprise holiday season global hit with “Love Actually”, British filmmaker Richard Curtis is bidding to repeat the trick with his first foray into animation.

The 68-year-old writer and director has co-adapted his own trilogy of children’s books, and commandeered longtime friend Ed Sheeran into contributing an original song, to bring “That Christmas” to the big and small screens.

Featuring the voices of Brian Cox (“Succession”), Bill Nighy (“Love Actually”) and a host of other acting talent, it hits select UK cinemas this week before its worldwide release on Netflix from December 4.

Curtis, behind box office successes like “Four Weddings and a Funeral” and “Notting Hill”, before 2003’s “Love Actually”, said his first venture into animated movies was full of surprises, particularly the time-consuming nature of the genre.

“I’ve been shocked by the amount of time (it takes),” he told AFP as the film premiered at the London Film Festival last month. There were some silver linings, however.

“My theory is that it means that people working in animation are nicer than people working in normal movies, because they know they’ve got to get on for five years.

“You really do get married. It’s not a one night stand — it’s not a sexy holidayy in Ibiza! It’s a long journey together. So I really enjoy it.”

    – ‘Edgy’ –

“That Christmas” — a series of entwined tales about a town of friends and relatives during a troubled festive period — is a family-friendly offering which still has a grown-up contemporary edge to it.

It features plenty of jokes and references to everything from Jesus being a hipster to abortion and climate change.

“If love were easy, your father wouldn’t have run off with his 25-year-old dental nurse,” one of the main animated characters, Mrs Williams, tells her schoolboy son, Danny.

Curtis said he and co-screenwriter Peter Souter were confident the format meant they could be “modern and sometimes edgy and satirical without crossing any big red lines”.

“I’ve always thought that you shouldn’t, as it were, dumb down if you’re dealing with kids,” he explained.

Veteran stage and screen actress Fiona Shaw was equally enthused about contributing to a film not just aimed at adults.

“I really love a young audience, because they watch with such enthusiasm and such accuracy and such memory. They remember things,” she said.

“So I’m hoping that this audience will enjoy Ms Trapper as much as I enjoyed playing it.”

    – Suffolk story –

Simon Otto, known for his work heading character animation for the “How to Train Your Dragon” films, makes his feature directorial debut on the project, which he said breaks new ground in the genre.

“In animation, it’s very uncommon to tell multi-thread storylines — it’s usually about a single hero on a fantastical journey,” he explained.

“Bringing the charm and timelessness of animation to Richard’s real-life stories that have universal appeal and wish-fulfilment felt like a really interesting match to everyone.”

Curtis revealed that Sheeran wrote and recorded an original song for the film, “Under the Tree”, largely thanks to the story’s setting in the southeast English county Suffolk, where both of them live.

“Ed is, as it were, the epitome of Suffolk,” the filmmaker explained, while joking the star musician’s involvement could also be down to him looking “like an animated character”.

“I went round, showed him the film, and he said: ‘Oh, I’d love to write a song for this’. And he did it fast, and it’s a really beautiful song,” said Curtis. “We’re really lucky.”

Otto noted that the track “really became the heart of the film” as it features at a climactic moment in the movie.

“It’s building towards this moment,” he said. “And he could be one of our characters.”

THIS Pakistani superstar is Dania Enwer’s father-in-law

Actress and Tamasha 3 contestant Dania Enwer has revealed that she is married to the son of a veteran actor.

Appearing as a guest on Mazaq Raat, the actress disclosed that she was married to Farhan Baig, the son of legendary actor Nadeem Baig.

During the show, Dania also openly shared her thoughts on love and her relationship with husband Farhan.

“I love him very much… now I know what love is,” she said.

The actress also candidly shared her thoughts on unrequited love. “One-sided love is useless. I experienced love twice in my life and both times I went ahead to express my feelings directly.”

“The first one didn’t work out while in the second one, I realised the true meaning of love,” she said while also hinting at her first marriage.

Earlier, in a morning show with Nida Yasir, Dania had opened up about her marriage and divorce.

“People say that divorce is easy, but when I got divorced, I realised that it was a difficult process for me,” she said, adding that she initially didn’t tell her family that she was going to end her marriage.

“But when they came to know about it, they supported me, saying that now I have made a decision and will stick to it.”

She added, “I got divorced for peace of mind and don’t regret any of my decisions.”

Talking about her ex-husband, she remarked, “Not only did I get peace from the divorce, but people around me also got peace. It would get better, but instead of getting better, things got worse.”

“My ex-husband was not addicted to drugs before marriage, but then gradually became addicted to drugs. He also subjected me to physical violence.”

“I think that drugs are just an excuse; even in drunkenness, what comes out of a person is what one is. It became difficult for me and the children, and then the house and the children were destroyed. The responsibility also fell on me because my first husband was not even earning, and when he needed money, he started beating me.”

Earlier, Dania Enwer’s video was getting a lot of attention on Instagram.

She posted the viral video on her Instagram, sharing her cheerful and lively side.

“You healed the wounds on the rollercoaster called ‘LIFE’,” the text on the Dania Enwer’s video read. “Sometimes it is better to just let things be. Don’t fight for closure. Don’t expect people to understand where you are coming from. You chose to heal. Instead of spreading pain. That’s strength.”

  • Majority of federal cabinet members in favour of governor’s rule in KP: report

Majority of federal cabinet members in favour of governor’s rule in KP: report

Following violent clashes amid Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) protest march in Islamabad, a majority of federal cabinet members have extended their support to the proposal of imposing Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

According to Article 232 of the Constitution of Pakistan, powers of the provincial chief executive can be transferred to the governor in an emergency situation, marking the imposition of Governor’s Rule under highly extreme circumstances.

The president of Pakistan issues the notification in this regard after he is satisfied that there are certain circumstances – such as internal disturbance or war-like situation – which are not under the control of the provincial administration.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan have submitted their opinions regarding the Governor’s Rule in KP, reports said Thursday.

The government, reports added, was of the view that KP itself created grounds for Governor’s Rule by “launching two attacks on the federal government” with the “help of provincial government’s employees and official machinery”.

The federal cabinet meeting focused solely on the imposition of Governor’s Rule, reports said and added that the final decision in this regard will be taken after consulting political allies. All stakeholders will also be taken into confidence.

It merits a mention that government’s allies in the province include the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Awami National Party (ANP) and Qaumi Watan Party (QWP).

Speculations regarding Governor’s Rule in KP come after PTI’s three-day long march on Islamabad, which ended with multiple casualties due to violent clashes with law enforcement.

KP Chief Minister (CM) Ali Amin Gandapur led the march along with former first lady and PTI founder Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi.

Separately, senior PTI leader and former KP minister Shaukat Yousafzai on Thursday blasted his party leadership over mismanagement of the Islamabad march.

He said that due to the party leadership’s blunders, the hardships of incarcerated party founder Imran Khan were mounting.

“All the responsibility (for this) lied on the central leadership,” the PTI leader stated in a statement.

He asked that if the PTI founder gave instruction to hold the sit-in at Sangjani, then why it was ignored. “Strategy in politics is made by looking at the situation,” he added.

  • PTI leaders question Bushra Bibi’s role in party decision-making

PTI leaders question Bushra Bibi’s role in party decision-making

The core committee and political committee of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday inquired about the role of party founder Imran Khan’s spouse, Bushra Bibi, in the party’s decision-making process.

Former Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s party emphasised that decision-making authority should be in the hands of the party’s political leadership and not non-political persons, a party source told The News.

PTI leadership raised the question of who led the protest towards D Chowk Islamabad when Imran himself had ordered that demonstrations be limited to the Sangjani area. Some members questioned why Imran Khan’s directions were ignored, asking who acted against the PTI founder chairman’s order.

However, party sources claimed that in both meetings, no one defended Bushra Bibi.

Investigative journalist Ansar Abbasi revealed that CM KP Ali Amin Gandapur and Opposition Leader of the National Assembly Omer Ayub Khan conveyed Imran Khan’s message to Bushra Bibi to limit the protest march at Sangjani area; however, she remained adamant about marching towards D Chowk.

Ansar Abbasi had claimed that following the meeting of Chairman PTI Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and KP’s Advisor of Information and Broadcasting Barrister Saif with party founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail Rawalpindi, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi provided them with a helicopter to fly to Bushra Bibi and convince her to stop the march.

However, two PTI leaders were a bit late as the march had already moved to the federal capital.

On November 21, incarcerated Imran Khan had put demands before the federal government, including his release till Friday (November 22), to postpone his “final call” which the government did not agreed.

PTI political and core committee on Wednesday condemned the alleged killing of their party demonstrators by the government. They demanded initiating the probe from within the party to identify those responsible for the decision to march to D Chowk, which led to the workers’ deaths.

In the party meeting, it was also maintained that if the party founder’s direction had been strictly followed, there would have been a sit-in at Sangjani, and it would not only have avoided the killing of party workers but would have also led to the initiation of a formal dialogue between the Prime Minister (PM) Shahbaz Sharif’s led government and PTI.

It should be mentioned here that following the Tuesday night grand operation against the protestors in the federal capital, multiple casualties were reported.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leadership claimed that more than twenty party workers had died. However, the government denied such a number of casualties.

  • Pakistan refuses to play in India in future: report

Pakistan refuses to play in India in future: report

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made its position clear to the International Cricket Council (ICC) on the issue of holding the Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

According to Geo, PCB has approached the ICC on the issue of holding the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, making its position clear.

Pakistan has demanded that an acceptable formula for the Champions Trophy be provided before the board meeting. The PCB also told the ICC that if a formula is made to play a match with India at a neutral venue, Pakistan will never go to India and play there.

Now, the PCB is waiting for the ICC’s response.

India has refused to come to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, while Pakistan has completely rejected the formula of shifting the tournament to another location or a hybrid model. Due to Indian stubbornness, the ICC has not yet been able to announce the new schedule for the Champions Trophy, which is also worrying broadcasters as they fear losing millions of dollars.
