  • ‘She didn’t mention which Khan’: Azma Bokhari’s inappropriate attack on Bushra Bibi draws criticism

‘She didn’t mention which Khan’: Azma Bokhari’s inappropriate attack on Bushra Bibi draws criticism

Punjab’s Minister for Information, Azma Bokhari, has come under severe criticism on social media for her recent highly inappropriate and misogynistic press conference against the former first lady, Bushra Bibi.

She referred to Bibi’s speech during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests when she said that she would not leave the dharna without the incarcerated former prime minister and her husband, Imran Khan – implying that they would not leave until Khan was free.

“She said she would not be back from Islamabad without Khan, but she did not mention Imran Khan. So what is all the fuss about?” the minister said.

“If she didn’t mention Imran Khan, that is because she went back with many Khans. Ali Amin Gandapur is also a Khan, and there were many other Khans with her,” stated the provincial minister.

Bokhari’s press conference was held after PTI remained unsuccessful in having a rally in Islamabad that started on November 24 –  a move deemed as the party’s “final call” to push the government to agree to the party’s terms.

One social media user wrote, “The more they abuse, troll and vulgar talk, the more points they get in Maryam’s weekly evaluation chart.” Another X user commented, “@AzmaBokhariPMLN, this is so below the belt, you wouldn’t like it if the other sides throw stones at your glasshouses.”

Bushra Bibi had taken a central role in leading the PTI caravan to the federal capital from Peshawar; however, around midnight of November 26, the entire PTI leadership was nowhere to be seen as the security forces launched a crackdown on the protestors.

Media outlets quickly reported that Bushra Bibi, along with the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Ali Amin Gandapur, had left for Peshawar through Haripur, while the PTI supporters on social media denied these reports at the time.

PTI supporters on social media have been strongly criticising the entire PTI leadership for abandoning the people in the dark in Islamabad as the government launched a crackdown.

The political situation in the country became tense over the last few days as protestors defied the government’s warning not to enter Islamabad while violent clashes took place between the PTI protestors and security forces, leading to multiple casualties.

The government also deployed the Pakistan Army after violent clashes led to the deaths of Rangers personnel. A notification issued by the Interior Ministry said that the army was authorised to impose a curfew in any locality deemed necessary to maintain law and order.

Interestingly, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi blamed a “secret hand” for failed negotiations with the PTI protestors, saying, “The PTI leadership wants to hold talks, but a secret hand is controlling the party, and it is stronger than all others. They have some other motives.”

Naqvi’s comments came after reports claimed that PTI leadership, including founder Imran Khan, had approved shifting the protest to Sangjani amid violent clashes. The same was not accepted by Bushra Bibi, who said she would continue leading protesters to D-Chowk till she had spoken to her husband herself.

  • Nigeria’s pregnancy scam: Woman convinced to be pregnant and deliver baby after 15 months

Nigeria’s pregnancy scam: Woman convinced to be pregnant and deliver baby after 15 months

A horrific fertility scam in Nigeria has been revealed by BBC Africa Eye through an investigation in the Anambra State of the West African country.

In a video report, BBC Africa Eye’s journalists went undercover to record footage of a woman named Doctor Ruth running a dubious facility.

Investigators reveal that women struggling to conceive end up supporting an underground trade of newborn babies. “The woman is convinced that if she visits a cryptic nurse or doctor, she is going to get an injection, a tablet or a solution that she would drin,k and after she goes home, she sleeps with her husband and then she is going to get pregnant,” Chiagozie Nwonwu, a BBC disinformation reporter, explains.

The fertility scam involves a network of scammers and fraudulent clinics that exploit desperate couples and women, in particular, with promises of “a miracle pregnancy” involving a fertility treatment which subjects them to false pregnancies and baby trafficking.

The investigator further revealed:  “Scammers convince women that they are pregnant and only they can deliver the baby. Incredibly, they claim the woman could be pregnant for years while they wait for a rare and expensive drug to bring on the birth.”

Nwonwu further adds, “Your doctor will call you and say, come and give birth today.”

The scammers often pose as medical professionals, luring women with promises of miraculous cures. One such-Dr Ruth costs the victims a whopping amount of money for initial “treatment” which is 200 dollars and gives injections for “sex selection” as well.

These mysterious injections or concoctions lead to swollen bellies, mimicking the appearance of pregnancy and giving women the impression of being pregnant and carrying a child despite the lack of any genuine medical evidence.

The women are warned against seeking any kind of medical attention.

The fraudsters tell women that traditional medical tests would not detect the pregnancy because the fetus is developing outside the womb.

Although these are biologically wrong facts, psychological manipulation and the victim’s own desperation keep them trapped in a cycle of deception.

One woman named Chioma claimed to have “carried” a child for 15 months.

When the time comes for the “delivery” of the child, women are told that they need to pay an additional fee for “special drugs” to induce labor.

Many women who go through the scam actually end up with a child, and they insist they have given birth. While some say that they are given injections and told to push, others say that they wake up with a c-section-like incision.

    Cryptic Pregnancy

The fertility scam often leverages the concept of “cryptic pregnancy,” a rare medical condition which is used by fraudsters to further deceive women.

Ify Obinanabo, Anambra State Commissioner for Women’s Affairs, outrightly called it out by saying that “cryptic pregnancy cannot exist without child trafficking.”

Journalist Yemi Adegoke, while talking to BBC News, revealed that the kind of Christianity practised in Nigeria has a lot of emphasis on miracles, which is why women get trapped in this scam easily.

Where do the children come from?

Yemi revealed that the children are trafficked, and there have been instances where young, vulnerable women are forced to sell their children.

In February, a raid by Anambra State health authorities exposed the facility housing women against their will, some as young as 17, who were forced to surrender their newborns.

Scammers exploit social media platforms like Facebook to spread misinformation about miraculous and cryptic pregnancies to target vulnerable women nationwide.

  • ‘People criticise me if I put on lipstick’; Hina Bayat on life after her husband’s death

‘People criticise me if I put on lipstick’; Hina Bayat on life after her husband’s death

Life in the spotlight isn’t always as glamorous as it seems, especially when personal choices are harshly judged by the public.

Recently, veteran actress Hina Bayat appeared as a guest on Subh Ka Samaa Madeha Kay sath, where she spoke about the criticism she faced after the death of her husband, Rogar Bayat.

“If I apply lipstick and makeup and go somewhere, people will say, ‘She’s one of those women.’ It hurts these women when their husbands are mentioned like this. I’ve even read comments from people about it,” Hina said.

The Shehr-e-Zaat actress shared how people criticize her for wearing makeup, especially after her husband’s passing.

“Why? Now tell me, it’s my job. I come on television, and if the character demands that I wear makeup, I’ll do it. I’ve done roles where I’ve gone with a bare face, no makeup at all. But you didn’t comment on that. Even if there’s no demand, I’m saying it clearly, the first thing is that I am appearing in a role. If the character needs it, I’ll do it. What’s wrong with that?”

She then revealed how her mother taught her to live fully, even in hard times.

After losing her late husband Roger Bayat to cancer, she stayed strong, remembering her mother’s words. Hin asaid, “We must live the years Allah blessed us with and move on.”

Hina Bayat lost her husband, Roger Dawood Baayt, to cancer on January 04, 2023.

Hina Bayat also starred in drama such as, ‘Jhumka Jaan’, ‘Ishq Gumshuda’ , ‘Uraan’, ‘Humsafar’, Mata-e-Jaan Hai Tu’, ‘Khumar’, ‘Jannat say agay’ and ‘Jaan Nisar.’

Earlier, in a recent podcast with FHM, Veteran actress Hina she shared her opinion on the growing number of divorces in society and how tolerance levels have changed.

“Why should I blame social media? Basically, over time, people’s tolerance has decreased. I believe that. I’ve heard some people say, ‘I was born to put up with this’, but in any relationship, even at work, not every colleague is someone you click with,” she said when asked about issues in marriages and if social media has played any role in it.

“You have to compromise a little bit somewhere… you have to tolerate something. There are some things you just can’t tolerate. There are lines you don’t cross, and the same applies to marriage… you set your own boundaries.”

  • Saheefa Jabbar Khattak laments internet outages and air pollution in Lahore

Saheefa Jabbar Khattak laments internet outages and air pollution in Lahore

Actress Saheefa Jabbar Khattak has expressed her concerns about the situation in Pakistan, underlining the recent internet outages and “out of control” air pollution in Lahore, saying it is no longer just an inconvenience – “it’s about survival.”

In a series of Instagram stories, the actor questioned why basic services like the internet were not working, calling it “unacceptable on so many levels.”

“I’ve reached a point where I no longer care what’s happening in the government because, as a citizen, I’ve learned not to expect much. But at the very least, I should be able to access my most basic rights in this country.”

She shared, “I paid my taxes, followed the law, and did not engage in anything that wouldn’t benefit Pakistan, and in return expected reliable internet.”

“Is that too much to ask? It’s disheartening to say this, but my expectations from my own country have dwindled to the bare minimum. I’m not asking for luxuries; I’m asking for what should be given in any functioning society.”

Her comment came after several parts of Pakistan faced internet outages and an increasing digital clampdown. Citizens reported issues with WiFi, mobile data services, and social media apps, including Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. They were unable to or facing difficulties while sending pictures, voice notes, large files, or uploading videos.

The outages are linked to the protests that began on November 24 by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) supporters heading towards the capital, Islamabad, where barricades and blockages worsened the situation.

She also expressed concern about the air quality in Lahore, saying she was unable to breathe because the “pollution is out of control.”

“Even when I choose to stay indoors to avoid the toxic air, I can’t find peace because the internet, essential for my work, communication, and connection with my loved ones, is barely functional.”

She questioned what hope was left when the basics of life, such as clean air, safety, and connectivity, were denied to people.

“As a nation, we need to reflect. Where is the welfare of the people? Where is the focus on security, infrastructure, and a better quality of life? It feels like the priorities have shifted away from the citizens and their needs.”

“It breaks my heart to say this, but I am deeply disappointed in the state of my country and the choices of those governing it. Pakistan has so much potential, yet we are failing at providing the most fundamental necessities.”

  • PTI to be banned? Faisal Vawda certainly thinks so

PTI to be banned? Faisal Vawda certainly thinks so

Following Tuesday’s violent clashes between followers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and law-enforcing forces in the federal capital, which led to multiple casualties, Senator Faisal Vawda, while appearing on the Geo News programme Capital Talk on Wednesday, claimed that former Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s party will be banned.

The Senator’s remarks came about as the ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) decided to table a resolution in the Balochistan Assembly seeking a ban on PTI after clashes with security officials during the three-day-long party protest.

PML-N parliamentary leader Saleem Khosa, who is set to tabled the resolution to suspend PTI, commented, “Once again, it [the former ruling party] is carrying out violent actions.”

Faisal Vawda stated, “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister [Ali Amin Gandapur] will not be arrested, but Bushra Bibi [Imran Khan’s wife] will.”

Faisal Vawda also pointed out the absence of PTI’s big names during the recent protest: “Where was Omar Ayub Khan, Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly?”

He alleged that the former First Lady has a “major role” in bringing founder Imran Khan’s party to a “dead end.”

Vawda took a jab at Imran Khan’s spouse, saying, “Woman [Bushra Bibi] said she would march on D-Chowk but later ran away.”

He criticised Bushra Bibi for insisting on marching towards D Chowk despite the party’s big wigs having agreed to change their protest venue to the Sangjani area, in the outskirts of the federal capital.

It should be mentioned here that PTI marched towards Islamabad on the “final call” of party founder Imran Khan.

PTI demanded the reversal of the recently passed 26th Constitution Amendment, the “stolen mandate,” and the release of all party political prisoners, including Imran Khan.

On September 8, PTI staged a rally in Islamabad. However, the November 24 protest was different as the party founder’s wife, Bushra Bibi, was leading the convoy along with CM KP Ali Amin Gandapur.

Following the crackdown on demonstrators on Tuesday night, former First Lady along with Ali Amin Gandapur had fled from Islamabad to Masehra.

However, CM Gandapur, while addressing party workers and media persons in Mansehra on Wednesday, declared, “This is not just a political demonstration but a fight for our fundamental rights.”

He also claimed that hundreds of his party workers were killed during the grand clearance operation in Islamabad, which the government denied.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ataullah Tarar had, on Tuesday night, said that “no bodies fell in the operation.” Government officials and ministers have also alleged that PTI protesters caused severe damage to public and government property in the federal capital.

‘Not everyone you work with is your friend’: Maryiam Nafees on social media BFFs

The entertainment industry is a notoriously cutthroat place and actress Mariyam Nafees agrees.

Appearing as a guest on Gup Shap hosted by Vasay Chaudhry, she discussed how she navigates relationships in the entertainment industry.

Rabbania Shirjeel asked, “Mariyam you are quite vocal about social issues, so how do you navigate within the industry?”

Maryiam replied, “I try not to get into it too much. I say, ‘you do your thing, let me do mine.’ I’ve learned that no one is truly your friend here. The few friends I have in the industry were already my friends from before.”

Speaking about the trend of social media best friends forever (BFF), Jaan – e Jahan actress emphasized, “They’re mostly just for show. Real friendship is something very deep, and not everyone you work with or post pictures with is truly a friend. Most people are just colleagues or acquaintances. I have a very small circle of genuine friends who have stayed consistent through everything, and they mean a lot to me.”

When it comes to her professional life, the Yaqeen Ka Safar actress stays focused on her work.

“When it comes to navigating projects or scripts, I just focus on doing my part for those 12 hours on set. Thankfully, we now have writers, directors, and producers who are willing to listen. If there’s something in a script that doesn’t align with what I want to portray, we discuss it and usually find a middle ground,”  Maryiam Nafees explained.

Earlier, actress Maryiam Nafees fearlessly expressed her opinions on various matters during an interview, be it politics, social issues, or her industry.

Appearing as a guest on Ahmed Ali Butt’s show ‘Mind Na Karna’, Mariyam was asked about having more than one spouse, as cricketer Shoaib Malik’s marriage came up in the discussion.

She said, “I respect that Islam allows men to have up to four marriages, but our religion also says men can’t treat their wives equally. I think very few women can accept their husbands marrying again.”

Nafees said that if her husband wants to marry again, she won’t object, but will instead ask for a divorce. “If someone isn’t happy in their marriage, they should end it and marry again, whether it’s the second or third time. But I want to emphasize that it’s tough for men to treat multiple wives equally, as our religion states.”

New video hints at Aishwarya dropping Bachchan surname

Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai Bachchan recently attended the Global Women’s Forum in Dubai, where she delivered an emotional speech on women’s empowerment.

The event’s official Instagram page shared a video showing the actress on stage, with her name displayed behind her: “Aishwarya Rai, International Star,” omitting the surname Bachchan.

This led to a flurry of social media reactions, with many users speculating that Aishwarya had officially removed Bachchan from her name.

However, a fact-check by News18 confirmed that Aishwarya’s full name remains unchanged on her verified Instagram profile, where she is still listed as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Some social media users suggested that the exclusion of Bachchan was a professional choice rather than a personal one, emphasizing Aishwarya’s identity.

The speculation comes amid ongoing rumors about Aishwarya and her husband Abhishek Bachchan’s alleged separation.

Adding to the buzz, Aishwarya recently shared photos of their daughter Aaradhya’s 13th birthday party, which notably did not feature Abhishek.

Chinese Pizza Hut introduces deep fried pizza with frog topping

A Chinese Pizza Hut has come up with the most bizarre pizza topping that is making waves across the internet. It is serving customers deep-fried frogs on top of their pies.

As per the menu, this is called a ‘Goblin Pizza’.

An image of the Pizza Hut advertisement featuring a thick-crust pizza with a red sauce base under a bed of parsley with the bullfrog on top and two halves of hard-boiled egg with black olives appearing as the ‘eyes’ of the frog has gone viral on the internet.

A translation of the Chinese caption suggests that the pizza is available for a limited time with a “special bullfrog” being ‘used’ in it.

However, it is unclear for how long Chinese Pizza Hut will be offering the pizza as the company does not specify on their website either.

Global food trendwatcher and industry consultant David Henke posted a picture of the special pizza that’s supposedly being offered in the Cinese pizza outlet on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

Henke shared the poster and captioned it: “Per@Technomic Global Navigator, in proof that other countries/cultures prefer different types of proteins, Pizza Hut is offering a pizza topped with a frog for a limited time offer in China – and frog is trending.”

A Korean news outlet, Maeil Business Newspaper, reported the protein-packed pizza has been launched in collaboration with Dungeons and Dragons and is named “Goblin Pizza” after one of the popular game’s characters.

One user commented “Cannot decide which is worse: The frog or the grotesque ‘eyeballs’ above it.”

One of the users said, “Guess they really jumped on the idea of thinking outside the box.”
