Fans gather to mourn Liam Payne’s death at UK and other vigils

Fans mourning Liam Payne’s death turned out across Britain and beyond at organised vigils Sunday, with at least 1,000 gathering in central London to pay tribute to the former One Direction star.

It came four days after Payne died aged 31 following a fall from the balcony of his Buenos Aires hotel room, prompting an outpouring of grief and condolences from family, former bandmates, fans and others.

Investigators have said he appeared to have been “going through an episode of substance abuse”.

Those at the London memorial at the Peter Pan statue in Hyde Park were encouraged in social media posts to bring “flowers, letters, balloons, pictures” and did not disappoint.

Gathering in the rain under umbrellas bearing those things and more, the crowd of mainly young people sang One Direction songs after also standing in silence for periods.

“He was such a big part of our childhood — we just came to pay our respect,” student Katie Etchells, 20, wearing a One Direction t-shirt, told AFP.

She was one of many who said that they at first thought word of his death was “fake news”, calling the realisation it was true “very upsetting”.

“I think he’ll be happy to know that so many people does love him,” a tearful Luna Franco, 20, from Italy, told AFP.

    – ‘Unify’ – –

Musician Shukhrat Turdikhodjaev, 21, said he had gone from “disbelief at first” to shock on hearing Payne had died.

He added the turnout showed that the singer “was able to connect and unify so many different people”.

Elsewhere, news reports and social media posts showed hundreds also gathered in the Scottish cities Edinburgh and Glasgow, as well as Paris, New York, Stockholm and many other places.

Fans were also set to gather later Sunday in Birmingham in central England — near Wolverhampton where Payne was born and raised.

He would shoot to fame around the world as a teenager in the hugely successful pop group One Direction, which formed in 2010 after its members appeared on “The X Factor”.

Sunday’s meet-ups mirror gatherings seen across Latin American in recent days.

In Buenos Aires, tearful fans have continued to mass in front of the Casa Sur Hotel, where Payne plunged to his death and an altar dedicated to him has been created full of flowers and messages.

On Friday, his father Geoff Payne visited the scene, thanking fans gathered there in a shared moment of grief.

Meanwhile Mexico City, the Ecuadorian capital Quito and various towns and cities in Colombia are among the other places to have seen impromptu ceremonies for Payne.

    – ‘Just really sad’ –

Anguished reactions have continued to stream in, including from Girls Aloud star Cheryl Tweedy, Payne’s former partner and the mother of their seven-year-old boy, who called his death an “earth shattering event”.

Payne’s One Direction bandmate Zayn Malik said Saturday on X that he was postponing the current US leg of his tour until January, citing “the heartbreaking loss experienced this week.”

Payne died from “multiple traumas” and “internal and external haemorrhaging” after the fall from the hotel, an autopsy found.

It suggested he had not tried to stop his fall and was in a state of “semi or total unconsciousness” before his death.

The singer, who had spoken publicly about struggles with alcohol and coping with fame from an early age, was alone at the time and appeared to be “going through an episode of substance abuse,” prosecutors have said.

Back in London, fan Chelsea Willy, 20, summed up the feelings of those mourning the loss.

“It is just really sad,” the actress said. “I’ve been a fan of him since I was very little,” she added, noting she cried on learning the news.

26th Constitutional Amendment passed: Here’s what you need to know

The coalition government’s much-awaited 26th Constitutional Amendment Bill has been passed by both the Senate and the National Assembly in the wee hours of Monday morning.

The Constitutional Amendment bill has been sent to President Asif Ali Zardari, following the approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The bill, containing 22 clauses, was presented by Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar in the Senate where it secured 65 votes, a two-thirds majority in the Upper House.

Following the voting, Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gilani stated, “Sixty-five members are in favour of the motion regarding the passage of the bill, and four members are against it. So, the motion is carried out by the votes of not less than two-thirds of the total membership of the Senate, and consequently, the bill stands passed.”

The 26th Constitutional Amendment bill was tabled at the National Assembly following approval from the Upper House and passed with a two-thirds majority as 225 lawmakers voted in favour of the bill in NA, while the magic number in the Lower House was 224 votes.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Sunni Ittehad Council’s 12 Member National Assembly (MNA) opposed the Constitutional Amendments In the National Assembly.

“225 members cast their votes for ayes, 12 for nos. Consequently, the bill is passed by the assembly by not less than two-thirds of the total membership of the assembly,” the Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq said.

Following the passage of the bill from the NA, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif remarked, “Today’s amendment, the 26th, is not just an amendment, but an example of national solidarity and consensus. A new sun will rise, emanating across the nation.”

The key points of the 26th Constitutional Amendment

The much-debated Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) has been dropped from the Constitutional Amendments bill. However, it has been suggested that constitutional benches be formed in the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan to deal with constitutional matters.

The Supreme Judicial Commission (SJC), headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan and including the three most senior judges of the Supreme Court, two senators and two MNAs, a Law Minister and the Attorney General of Pakistan will form the constitutional bench and ensure that all provinces get representation on it.

The minimum number of judges in the constitutional bench would be five.

A 12-member special parliamentary committee, including eight members from the National Assembly and four Senators, would be responsible for sending the names of the three most senior judges of the top court to PM Pakistan for the appointment of Chief Justice of Pakistan.

The Chief Justice’s retirement age is fixed at 65 years of age.

PCB selection committee approaches Muhammad Amir, claims senior journalist

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committe has approached fast bowler Muhammad Amir, asking about his availability for ODI cricket, journalist Aijaz Waseem Bukhari has claimed.

Talking on his YouTube channel BBN Sports, he said, “Yesterday, I informed you that Muhammad Rizwan would be the captain. Today, there’s more news regarding the Pakistan-Australia series. The selection committee has made an important decision: senior players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Naseem Shah, who were dropped during the Bangladesh-England series due to poor performances, will likely be part of the squad for the challenging Australian tour.”

“Australia is a strong team, especially on their home ground, and considering the current fragile state of Pakistan cricket, the selection committee feels it’s risky to send a young and inexperienced squad to face them. After the Australia tour, Pakistan will play Zimbabwe, where younger players are expected to get their chance”, he added.

Talking about Muhammad Amir’s inclusion in the team, he said, “PCB selection committee is in contact with Muhammad Amir about his potential return to ODI cricket. A key update is that while Shadab Khan is being rested, some players, such as Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Haris, are likely to be part of the squad.”

The Pakistan cricket team has to go on a tour of Australia next month for a white ball series.

After the Australia tour, Pakistan will play three ODI and three T20 matches with Zimbabwe.

Reshma’s timeless song ruined in Bollywood plagiarized version

Bollywood has once again been accused of copying a classic Pakistani song, and this time, Kriti Sanon is at center of the debate. A song from her latest film ‘Do Patti’ is being compared to the iconic Akhiyaan Nu Rehn De originally sung by the late Reshma.

The lyrics of the remake are written by Kausar Munir, and the song is sung by Shilpa Rao. However, many fans feel that the magic of Reshma’s original has been lost.

Reshma had sung some iconic songs such as Laal Meri, Hai O Rabba Nahion Lagda Dil Mera, and Lambi Judai. She died in November 2013 in Lahore after suffering from throat cancer since many years.

Currently, Kriti Sanon upcoming film is Do Patti directed by Shashanka Chaturvedi and written by Kanika Dhillion.

The film will be released on October 25, 2024, on Netflix.

Do Patti’s cast includes Tanvi Azmi, Brijendra, Kala, Kajol, Kriti and Shaheer.

  • FACT CHECK: When did this happen in ‘Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum’

FACT CHECK: When did this happen in ‘Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum’

The drama Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum is currently the most trending show in India and Pakistan. Viewers love the drama, particularly for the chemistry between Mustafa and Sharjeena.

Fans have even given the couple a cute nickname, “Musjeena.” However, today I came across a video that left me shocked. It was an AI-generated video that featured scenes from the drama, but it depicted Mustafa and Sharjeena in a kissing scene that never took place. This was inappropriate, as such content is not part of Pakistani dramas. So, it was obvious that this video was AI-generated.

AI is a powerful tool that offers many benefits by making our work easier, but unfortunately, some people are misusing it, which is causing significant harm.

Hania Aamir spoke against her fake AI-generated videos circulating on the internet.

She expressed concern over the misuse of artificial intelligence on her Instagram account, questioning the absence of laws governing its use.
She shared a screenshot of the news from a private news website on her Instagram story.

According to the news shared by the actress, videos went viral on social media, and the girl’s face resembled that of Hania Aamir.

She clarified that these videos were not hers but were created using Artificial Intelligence (AI), making them appear convincing. She also questioned whether there are any laws to address this issue.

After the videos of a girl resembling Hania Aamir went viral, some social media pages supported the actress and confirmed that the videos were AI-generated.

Some social media users claimed that the girl in the videos is an Indian influencer who resembles Hania Aamir and frequently posts from various accounts.

She shared a screenshot of the Instagram account in question, which is run by Anureet Sandhu, a user with over 22,000 followers and more than 100 posts, many of which were AI-generated videos with her face.

The actress asked her followers to report the account, saying, “She has blocked me, but can you all report this account?”

Shortly after her post, the account’s name was changed to Core Sandhu, seemingly to avoid being caught. Later, the user renamed it Sandhu Core.

The videos have now been removed, after fans reported the profile.

Further investigation revealed the account was created in India, and its location was listed as Chandigarh.

According to a screenshot shared by Hania, the account’s name has changed 18 times since it was created in September 2022.

The incident has sparked new discussions about the ethical usage of AI technology and the need for stronger laws to prevent its misuse.

Nursing college student in Lahore attempts suicide after principal’s verbal abuse

The video of a nursing college student with a bandaged wrist and a branula sticking on one hand has been circulated widely on social media. The girl claims to have tried to take her own life due to the Principal’s verbal abuse.

Syeda Iman Fatima claims to be a student of Public Health at Lahore’s Fatima Jinnah Nursing College. She allegedly attempted suicide after being harassed by the college principal.
In the video, she is seen saying that her principal used abusive words for her and demoralized her by objecting to her character.

“It’s not just me, she behaves the same with all the students. I couldn’t tolerate this, so I went to my room and tried committing suicide,” Imaan says in her statement.

She also claims that she stayed in the hospital for one whole day, but the college administration did not call her parents despite her requests. The student pleaded to Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz to intervene. “It has been five to six months that Madam [principal] has been doing this.”

Geo reports that DG Nursing Tahira Sagheer said that the first-year nursing student tried to commit suicide due to the inappropriate words and harassment of the college principal, but fellow nurses stopped the student from cutting her wrist.

She confirmed that the student belongs to Gujranwala and has requested leave from the principal.

“An application has been submitted by the student to the health secretary, and a hearing will be held with him tomorrow,” she said.

The principal, student and eyewitness nurses have been called in, and action will be taken if the allegations are proven to be true, DG Nursing stressed.

Mom Finds Aubreigh Dead in Her Room

Aubreigh was a little girl who loved to spend quality time with her friends and family. She had many friends at school, but her mother claimed on social media that some girls bullied her at school.

Heather Wyatt’s lawyer said Aubreigh was called hateful and untrue names, and false rumors circulated about her. Moreover, he stated the taunting was so widespread that it continued after Wyatt complained to the school district and attempted to intervene.

Wyatt revealed in a video that she and her older daughter Taylor discovered Aubreigh’s body in her room on Labor Day.

‘I wanted to get it off of her neck, so I’m screaming at Taylor to get a knife, and she runs in there, and I’m holding Aubreigh’s body up… while Taylor cuts and cuts at the rope until it releases,’ she said.

‘She added that I immediately took Aubreigh’s body and placed it on her bed. I started CPR right away, screaming and begging God to let her live. While that is happening, Taylor is calling 911. She also said, It was a lot, and I did not want to deal with it. So, I just lay with her while the police and everyone else arrived. That is how we found Aubreigh; she had committed suicide by hanging herself in her room.

    Bullying Aubreigh Wyatt

Aubreigh took a significant step in her life and committed suicide. Her mother, Heather Wyatt, claimed that Aubreigh was a victim of “bullying” several times. Bullying Aubreigh Wyatt raises some more questions about Aubreigh Wyatt bullies names. She started a campaign on social media to bring attention to the issue of bullying and the mental health of young people. While Heather never mentioned the names of these girls, people who reside on the internet found out who they were. There were also numerous claims involving Heather and Aubreigh that relate to the internet and actual bullying.

    Investigations into Aubreigh Wyatt Death

Even though police looked into the case of Aubreigh Wyatt death, the inquiry stopped because Aubreigh was in no position to take the stand and accuse any of the girls who were suspected to have messed with her.

Millions have come together on social media to talk about Aubreigh’s story. It leads to some of her classmates being hounded online. In addition to the increased coverage of Heather Wyatt’s TikTok, other accounts have taken up Aubreigh’s cause. Some support female mental health, and some seek to blame the individuals argued to be harbingers of Aubreigh Wyatt death.

One of these students was even harassed, and her whereabouts were leaked and spread online. Aubreigh’s mother has been quite categorical, saying that no one should be harmed as a consequence of her daughter’s death. Her message was meant to illustrate the influence that bullying can have on specific populations of youth.

    Aubreigh Wyatt’s Lawsuit

The parents of the four accused girls are so outraged that they are suing Heather. They forced her to delete all relevant posts and photographs from her social media accounts. This lawsuit arose because those girls were abused and threatened a lot after Aubreigh’s case went viral. As for Heather herself, she is not the one who makes threats. Moreover, for the last few of her videos, she has changed the topic of bullying to her mental health and grief stemming from the loss of her beloved member of the family.

  • Rameez Raja blames Babar Azam for bad pitches

Rameez Raja blames Babar Azam for bad pitches

Former Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Rameez Raja has blamed Babar Azam for the bad pitches used during Australia’s tour of Pakistan.

According to Geo, “The pitch during Australia’s tour of Pakistan and the Test series was prepared at the behest of Babar Azam. The preparation of the pitches and the selection of the players were done according to the strategy made by the captain.”

The former PCB chairman said, “I always preferred captain’s strategy over pitch preparation and player selection. When Babar Azam was the captain, I asked him what is your plan. During the series against Australia, he prepared wickets according to the strategy.”

“Babar was allowed to set the game plan and prepare his players accordingly, especially for the first Test match because he was the captain, and what happens on the ground is what the captain plans,” he added.

    Video Source: Twitter

He said, “Without knowing the nature of the pitches, the result of playing the match by guessing is visible to everyone because without understanding the pitch, you cannot adopt any plan or strategy, and in the end, that thing leads to your loss. Pakistan is also going through the same situation, and the reason for the defeat at home is that the pitches don’t match Pakistan’s talent.”

Rameez Raja served as PCB chairman from 2021 to 2022.
