Singer Sahir Ali Bagga has revealed that renowned singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan refused to sing a song to pay tribute to the martyred children of Army Public School (APS) Peshawar, after which he sang the said song to his young son.

He recently appeared in the Sama TV program, where he discussed the anthems for the Pakistan Army.

“After the martyrdom of children in the Army Public School in Peshawar, when the ISPR asked him to compose a song on the tragedy, he first approached Rahat Fateh Ali Khan,” he recalled.

Bagga added that Rahat Fateh Ali Khan had taken the composed song, along with the money, but later, he refused to sing it.

“Rahat Fateh Ali Khan called me and apologised for not singing the song. He told me that he was feeling scared,” he said.

“I felt sorry after Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s refusal and vowed that I would now do a bigger job than Rahat Fateh Ali Khan,” he claimed.

“I was also very sad because of the Army Public School tragedy, and then I suddenly thought of my school-going son and sang the song to him,” he added.

“It was only after Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s refusal that I had my son Azaan sing ‘Bara Dushman Bana Phirta Hai,’ and after that, I also had him sing the second song, ‘Humain Dushman Ke Bachon Ko Parhana Hai,’” Bagga said.

Although he claimed that Rahat Fateh Ali Khan agreed to sing the song and received money for it and later denied it, Bagga did not clarify whether Khan returned the money to him or not.

He also did not clarify what happened to the copy of the song sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.

The songs were released in 2015 after the December 2014 terrorist attacks on the Army Public School Peshawar and were well received.

PCB removes captain, head coach from selection committee

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has updated a section pertaining to members of its selection committees on its official website.

Only five members are included in the selection committee, with the captain and head coach excluded from it.

Conversation with PCB official:

A PCB official, in conversation with The Current, also elaborated on the update.

“Before this, the captain and the head coach also used to be voting members of the selection committee,” they said.

Now, the official added, the head coach and captain will only give their suggestions, whereas only the members of the selection committee will have the final vote on who makes it to the team.

The committee includes Aqib Javed, Aleem Dar, Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali and Hasan Cheema, while PCB has also removed non-voting members.

Punjab College protests: Over 150 arrested as students take to roads in Rawalpindi

Police have arrested at least 150 violent protesters in Rawalpindi who were demonstrating against the alleged rape of an unnamed female student in Punjab Group of Colleges in Lahore.

The police used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.

A social media post went viral alleging that a rape took place in a campus of Punjab Group of Colleges. However, as yet, no student or family has come forward to file a complaint. Enraged students staged protests outside different colleges in Lahore, leaving 28 people injured.

Rawalpindi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operation Hafiz Kamran Asghar today told Dawn that at least 150 violent protesters had been arrested so far, and police have controlled the law and order situation in Rawalpindi.

The Senior Superintendent of Police said that whoever attempts to take the law into their own hand under the pretence of protest would face legal consequences.

“All the closed roads have also been opened,” SSP Asghar added.

Rawalpindi police on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “Rawalpindi Police is fully prepared to deal with any law and order situation.”

Earlier, a college security guard lost his life in violent clashes with students in Gujrat district. Police have booked 185 people in a murder case.

Family members of lawmakers ‘disappearing’ as Constitutional Amendments approach

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member Meher Bano Qureshi, the daughter of former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, posted on X (formerly Twitter) late at night on October 16 that her sister-in-law, the wife of PTI MNA Zain Qureshi, was abducted from near their home by “masked men in plain clothes and multiple cars.”

A few hours later, Qureshi posted a photo with the caption: “Alhamdulillah, she’s home. Thank you for your prayers and support!”

“They have not been able to break us for the last year and half despite all kinds of threats and are now resorting to such low level tactics. Mine & my family’s faith in Allah is unbreakable. He will see us & Pakistan through this fascism,” she wrote.

However, Meher Bano Qureshi is not the only one to complain about the sudden ‘disappearance’ and ‘abduction’ of lawmakers and their family members.

This disturbing trend was first revealed by Chairman Balochistan National Party (BNP) Akhtar Mengal, who recently handed over his resignation as an MNA, citing unheard grievances of Balochistan when he took to X (formerly Twitter) to write that his lodges in Islamabad had been raided.

Mengal also wrote: “My party Senator Naseema Ehsan is confined to her apartment, and her son has been abducted. Meanwhile, my party’s other Senator Qasim Roonjo, who went for his dialysis at 8 a.m. in Islamabad, has been untraceable along with his son since then. Is this what democracy looks like?!!!”

Interestingly, Akhtar Mengal posted about the alleged abduction of his party senators around the same time PTI’s Meher Bano Qureshi tweeted about the short ‘disappearance’ of her sister-in-law.

In a separate post, the PTI member also revealed on X: “She was taken literally yards away from interior minister’s @MohsinnaqviC42 house who happens to be our neighbour.”

Meanwhile, Akhtar Mengal strongly condemned the alleged harassment of his party senators, saying, “After Benazir Bhutto’s and Nawaz Sharif’s Charter of Democracy we now have the Zardari-Sharif Crater of Democracy. Indeed democracy is the best revenge and ofcourse vote ko bahut izzat do.”

Mengal also showed solidarity with PTI’s Meher Bano Qureshi, writing, “All boundaries have been breached to ensure the votes get pushed through. It’s a déjà vu of Musharaf’s dictatorship. Shameful act.”

The BNP leader warned last week that “undemocratic methods” were being employed to enforce the upcoming constitutional amendments.

Meanwhile, netizens also dived into what could be the reason behind the disturbing trend. Journalist Maria Memon quoted Qureshi’s post with a caption: “The so-called “political consensus” is being achieved at a very heavy cost.”

Columnist Arifa Noor posted: “Nearly every other day, there are incidents that leave one speechless.”

Another X user posted, “Picking up someone’s wife who is not even involved in politics is lowest of low. These actions are eroding any remaining trust or confidence in the state. Let sense prevail; don’t compromise your entire humanity over short-term political benefit.”

PTI has been campaigning and protesting against the government’s proposed 26th constitutional amendment, which aims to reform the judiciary, amongst other things.

The coalition government remained unsuccessful last month when it tried to pass the constitutional package, but since then it has been aggressively championed, in a campaign led by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, to get the required votes.
