What messages did celebrities share on Pakistan’s Independence Day?

On Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day, the country’s patriotic spirit was reflected in the messages shared by celebrities across social media.

As the country celebrated its eventful history and achievements, different people from the entertainment industry took the opportunity to express their pride in their nation.

Here are some stories and messages shared by the celebrities:

  • New York City co-names street ‘Allama Iqbal Avenue’ in honor of Pakistani National Poet

New York City co-names street ‘Allama Iqbal Avenue’ in honor of Pakistani National Poet

In the run-up to Pakistan’s Independence Day, an avenue in New York City has been co-named “Allama Iqbal Avenue”.

The honor recognizes Allama Iqbal, an international icon and symbolic figure of Pakistani nationhood, who was instrumental in envisioning a separate homeland for the Muslims of the Subcontinent — a dream that was realized in 1947.

Ambassador Masood Khan lauded the development, extending his congratulations to Ali Rashid, the President of the American-Pakistani Advocacy Group (APAG), for his leadership in this initiative.

“Naming an avenue after our national poet in such a globally renowned city not only cements Pak-US ties but is also a source of pride for the Pakistani diaspora across the United States,” Khan said.

Adrienne Adams, Speaker of the New York City Council, expressed her honor at celebrating the co-naming of the avenue as “Allama Iqbal Avenue” as Pakistan’s Independence Day approaches. She paid tribute to Iqbal’s work and vision that led to the creation of Pakistan and recognized the vibrant Pakistani community’s contributions to the cultural fabric of New York City.

  • SBP unveils Rs75 commemorative banknote

    SBP unveils Rs75 commemorative banknote

To commemorate 75 years of Pakistan’s independence, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) presented the Rs75 commemorative banknote on Sunday during a ceremony conducted at the SBP Museum.

The banknote was unveiled by the acting Governor of SBP Dr Murtaza Syed.

Dr Murtaza made the following observation after the introduction of the commemorative banknote and flag-hoisting ceremony: “While the issuance of coins and postal stamps is a regular and recurring element to honour days of national importance.”

The former SBP governor Dr. Raza Baqir has signed the banknote, which would be available to the general public from September 30.

The colour of the banknote is primarily green, with hints of white and yellow. Green is a symbol of prosperity and development that also draws on Pakistan’s Islamic heritage. White, on the other hand, highlights the diversity of religions among its residents.

The front of the note has portraits of the Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Allama Muhammad Iqbal, and Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah.

The images of the Markhor and Deodar trees on the reverse reflect Pakistan’s dedication as a nation to combating climate change and its effects.

The Markhor and Deodar trees are both representations of the destruction caused by these changes and need immediate action to stop and reverse environmental degradation.

Speaking at the event, Dr Syed remarked, “The SBP Finance Department went above and above to quickly complete this vital project, and I applaud their efforts.”

The central bank has now released two notes of this type, including the Rs75 note. In the past, to commemorate Pakistan’s Golden Jubilee, the SBP released the first and, to date, only commemorative banknote in 1997.

To commemorate the nation’s centennial of independence, children with disabilities also participated and sang national patriotic songs during the ceremony.

  • Independence Day: Five Mili Naghmas we love

Independence Day: Five Mili Naghmas we love

Today is the 75th Independence Day of Pakistan. In seven decades of Pakistan’s history, many mili naghmas (national songs) were produced. We have listed the top five mili naghmas that we think are loved by everyone.

    Yeh Watan Tumhara Hai

This mili naghma was sung by Mehdi Hassan in 1962. “Mir-e-karwaan hum thay, rooh-e-karwaan tum ho. Hum to sirf unwaan thay, asal dastaan tum ho.” These lyrics will surely re-ignite the patriotic spirit in you.

    Dil Dil Pakistan

It won’t be unfair to say that Dil Dil Pakistan by Vital Signs can be termed as the unofficial national anthem of Pakistan. It was released on Independence Day in 1987. It was also copied and used in an Indian film in 1990.

    Ae Watan Pyare Watan

Ae Watan Pyare Watan was released in 1965 and is sung by Ustad Amanat Ali Khan. This mili naghma evokes strength, jubilance, and a sense of patriotism.

    Ae Watan Ke Sajeelay Jawano

Malika-e-Tarranum Noor Jehan recorded 12 songs during the 1965 war. Ae Watan Ke Sajeelay Jawano was one of them. Composed with love and passion, this is a song that is guaranteed to evoke patriotism in you.

    Ae Rahe Haq Ke Shaheedon

The song was composed and sung for the film Madar-e-Watan released in 1966, a year after the 1965 War to pay homage to the martyrs of the 1965 War and is sung by Naseem Begum. The lyrics and music of this song never fails to touch our hearts.

    Happy Independence Day. Pakistan Zindabad!
