‘Sitaare Zameen Par will make you cry,’ says Aamir Khan on upcoming film

If Taare Zameen Par touched your heart, Sitaare Zameen Par will leave you both laughing and crying, Bollywood actor Aaamir Khan has said.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Aaamir discussed his upcoming film ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ and its emotional depth. “It’s a beautiful story, actually, the easiest way I can describe it is that Sitaare Zameen Par is a very emotional film. It makes you cry… it makes you laugh. It’s a humorous film.”

He said that the theme of the upcoming film is similar to Taare Zameen Par — of people with different abilities, intelligence, all with different challenges. “So the theme is similar, but the feel of the film, the emotional feel of the film, is humor as opposed to emotions.”

The 3 Idiots actor also revealed what sets Sitaare Zameen Par apart from Taare Zameen Par.

“In many ways, I feel its way ahead of Taare Zameen Par… because in Taare Zameen Par, the person who was challenged, was Ishaan. He was helped by a character, which was my character. In Sitaare Zameen Par, it is 10 people with challenges who help me… the supposedly normal person. So, it’s a real flip. It goes much further, I feel, than Taare Zameen Par,” he added.

The film Sitaare Zameen Par is an official Hindi remake of the Spanish movie Campeones (Champions). Other than Aaamir, the film also features Genelia D’Souza and Darsheel Safary.

Aamir directed Taare Zameen Par in 2007, which starred Darsheel Safary as Ishaan, a young boy struggling with dyslexia.

According to Indian media reports, Sitaare Zameen Par is expected to release on Christmas 2024.

Earlier, Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan had discussed the emotional journey that led him to change his mind over leaving the industry, explaining how his family convinced him through this interview with The Hollywood Reporter India.

“I was going through a personal journey of my own, and towards the end of COVID, I found myself sitting alone and reflecting. The time alone made me realize that I’d spent the bulk of my adult life, from the age of 18 when I first became an assistant, entirely focused on cinema and films. This made me think that maybe I hadn’t been there enough for my relationships, my kids, my siblings, my family, whether it was with Kiran when I was married to her or Reena when I was married to her. I felt I hadn’t been present enough for these people.”

Aamir shared that the realization dawned on him during the shooting of Laal Singh Chaddha, when the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic halted production.

“I felt a lot of guilt and didn’t feel good about what I had done. So, in an emotional reaction, I thought I’d done enough films in my 35 years in the industry and could now focus on my family and personal relationships,” Khan admitted.

Aamir Khan, one of Bollywood’s biggest starts with over 35 years in the entertainment industry, almost walked away from it all.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Aamir Khan and his ex-wife Kiran Rao, discussed the emotional journey that led him to reconsider leaving films and shared how his family convinced him to stay.

Aamir Khan said, “I was going through a personal journey of my own, and towards the end of COVID, I found myself sitting alone and reflecting.

The Taare Zameen Par actor shared that he realized this during the shooting of ‘Laal Singh Chaddha, when the pandemic halted production.

“I felt a lot of guilt and didn’t feel good about what I had done. So, in an emotional reaction, I thought I’d done enough films in my 35 years in the industry and could now focus on my family and personal relationships”, Khan admitted.

Aamir Khan reached a point where he felt conflicted between his career and family.

“I called my family and told them that I wanted to quit films to spend time with them, this wasn’t out of disappointment with cinema, but rather an emotional feeling that I wanted to be more present for my loved ones. I am quite an extreme person, so when I was doing films, I was doing only films. My son Junaid and my daughter Ira convinced me not to quit. They pointed out that I was swinging from one extreme to another, from only films to only family, and suggested I could find a balance. They explained this to me, and eventually, I came back to films”, the Lagaan actor explained.
Earlier, in a podcast with Reha Chakraborty, Indian actor Aamir Khan, known for perfectionism, made a surprising admission. He acknowledged that his performance in the movie Laal Singh Chaddha was subpar, which contributed to the film’s failure.

The anchor was taken aback by his honesty, remarking that no actor or star ever admits to their own performance being the reason for a film’s poor reception.

Khan responded by saying, “Yes, my performance was not up to the mark, and I have a lot to learn from it. But I’m confident that my next movie will showcase a better performance.”

The film Laal Singh Chadda was released on August 11, 2022.

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan recieved accolades for his 2007 film ‘Tare Zameen Par’ which explored the struggles of a dyslexic child who is sent to a boarding school after poor academic performance. Now, the actor has confirmed that he is working on a sequel called ‘Sitare Zameen Par’ which will focus on the theme of promoting mental health and children’s rights.

Speaking to News 18, Aamir said that the sequel will be 10 steps ahead of the original film, stressing that it aims to make the audience laugh instead of crying.

“I have not spoken about it publicly and I won’t be able to say much now also. But I can tell the title. The title of the film is Sitare Zameen Par. You must have remembered my film Taare Zameen Par and the name of this film is Sitare Zameen Par because we are moving 10 steps ahead with the same theme. Taare Zameen Par was an emotional film, this film will make you laugh. That film made you cry this one will entertain you.”

Nine boys will help his character in the film, the superstar stated.

“But the theme is the same that’s why we kept this name very thoughtfully. We all have flaws, we all have weaknesses, but we all also have something special, so we are taking forward this theme but this time the character of the special child Ishaan in that film, my character helps that character in Taare Zameen Par, in Sitare Zameen Par, those 9 boys, who have their own issues they help me. It’s the opposite.”

‘Tare Zameen Par’ revolved around the eight-year-old boy Ishaan, who struggles with dyslexia, being labelled a trouble maker by his teachers and family. After being dropped off at a boarding school, he meets art teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh, who helps him open up with the love of art and becomes his tutor.

Imran Khan reveals why he stepped away from making films after ‘Break Kay Baad’

If you were a teenager on during the 2000’s, chances are you were swept up in the wave of adoration for Imran Khan. Nope, not THAT one, but the one who made us swoon with his charm and wit with films like ‘Jaane Tu Jaane Na’ and ‘I Hate Luv Stories’. But then he suddenly announced his retirement and completely stepped away from films, leaving love struck girlies heartbroken and without a fictional character to moon about.

Now, Imran is dropping hints that he was definitely sure that this wasn’t the last the world had seen of him. When a fan commented under Zeenat Amin’s film, begging the actor to make a comeback, Imran shocked everyone by commenting that he was absolutely ready.

Now, Imran has shared pictures from his old films on his Instagram account, like he shared a couple of pictures of his 2012 film ‘Break Kay Baad’ where he starred along side Deepika Padukone. He wrote in the caption that despite the negative reviews, the film held a special place in his heart because of how much he enjoyed making it.

“In the summer of 2010, I went to Mauritius to shoot Break ke Baad. We swam every day, ate a lot of seafood, sampled Mauritian rum (potent), and made some friends for life. It was a blast. Apparently, in between all the revelries, we managed to make a film as well. This one always had a special place in my heart, because of how much I enjoyed making it. I can’t show you many of the behind the scenes photographs, as it may compromise the modesty of certain individuals… but here’s a glimpse.”

In the Instagram stories, Imran shared the reason why he was reminiscing about his old films on Instagram, writing that it was to help him reshape the connection he had with his career, and to address how he left the industry because of the over whelming negative response to ‘Break Kay Baad’.

“If you’re wondering why I’m looking at the past so much…it’s because I’m reshaping my relationship with my films. To be clear, I’m not blaming anyone for anything; all opinions are valid, and not everyone will like the same things…that’s normal. Unfortunately, at the same time, I was only able to look at things from a negative mindset.”

The actor went on to share that despite having so much fun filming ‘Break Kay Baad’ the only thing he remembered the most was the overwhelming negative reviews the film received.

The actor, who is the nephew of Bollywood veteran star Aamir Khan, said the negative feedback had brought him down, but the support of the fans-who begged him to come back on the main screen- helped him regain his faith back in his career.

“And that is where,” the actor wrote. “I realize my mistake; I paid so much heed to the voices that hurt… and I never valued the voices that loved. What a fool. I won’t make that mistake again.”

“Thank you all for helping me change my perspective,” and thank you Imran for pushing past the hate, and coming to show everyone what a true rom-com film looks like.
